"Smokers should know the law!" Pay taxes for online cigarettes or lose your home
Submitted by sharpsteve on Tue, 07/21/2009 - 12:55
A smoker since her teenage years, Gladys Kramer jumped at the chance to buy cigarettes for $14.95 a carton, ordering 133 cartons between May 2006 and December 2008. A carton in Pennsylvania today sells for about $53. Kramer was shocked last month to receive a notice from the Butler County Prothonotary's Office saying the state entered a lien against her home of 20 years, to recover $4,583 in unpaid state cigarette taxes, fees and interest.

Goes to show you that…
… people should not keep assets in their own name. If the thugs know that you own something they will attempt to take it away at the slightest violation of their rules. The only real control they have over you is taking away your stuff. If you don't have anything (on record) there is nothing to take, thus, making one judgment proof.
Solution: rent, drive a clunker (disposable, paid-for car), convert your assets into gold & silver coin and keep them at a safe location, only keep minimal cash in the bank… Screw'em all!
Personally, I quit smoking after 35 years (ten years free) and I can no longer stand the stench of smelling a smoker. But I will defend your ruin your health any way you wish.

“Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information and religions destroy spirituality”

what smoking ban?
i thought people were still at least allowed to smoke. it's bad enough business owners can't allow it on their own property.
You're kidding...

Serious as a heart attack
and not one caused from smoking!
If you owned a business ladalang.....
Would you want the government telling you what your customers could do inside your business?
If you didn't like smoke before the ban, you were free to patronize businesses that catered to non-smokers.....
How is this good for freedom?
First its astronomical tobacco taxes....then its something you enjoy....

Read the 1964 civil rights act , it took away private control of
business. It was an unConstitutional law that gave no one any rights but took the rights away from privately owned business.

Not being a smoker...
Is it illegal to grow your own tobacco?
Is tobacco considered a 'controlled substance' like marijuana?
That aside, PA has some set of balls trying to tax purchases after the fact for items not purchased from their state.
I'd tell them so shove, personally.

They can't tell them to
They can't tell them to shove it (unless you mean they should file a lawsuit) when there has been a lien put on their property.
it is not illegal to grow your own.
i've done it for years, and i don't even smoke.
Agreed.
We do the same for medicinal purposes, as it should be used.. :)

I personally know a couple
I personally know a couple who were buying cigarettes online back in maybe 2001 or so for a while. Then one day they received threatening letters from the state along with something like a $3,000 to $4,000 bill for owed taxes. Anyhow, this sort of stuff does happen.

Cheap Smokes...
Saving money on cigs isn't hard to do...
I get my smokes at rock bottom prices, and all I have to do is go to the local store. Yep, I roll my own. Here in NY about 25 miles NW of NYC, I pay about $6.50 for a 3/4 ounce pouch of tobacco, filters and extra papers per week. It used to be much cheaper, but they recently raised the tax which more than doubled the tobacco price (from $2.00 to about $5.00 per pouch). I use a cheap plastic hand roller, and split my filters in half so I can roll half-wides (about half the width of a standard "taylor-made"). I get about 70 cigs from a pouch.
RE: Home "owners" -
Home "ownership" is a myth.
NOBODY truly "owns" their home. Don't pay the town tax or school tax, they don't withold service, they kick you out. I don't mind paying for services I can use, so I don't gripe about the town tax. When I flush the toilet, what was in the bowl becomes someone else's problem. If I need police assistance, I call and they come. No problem. My gripe is with the school tax, which is more than double the town tax, here. I don't have kids, yet they force me to pay for a service I am NOT allowed to use unless I have kids. If I don't pay, they take my house. I have neighbors with 2 or 3 kids in the system, and they pay LESS school tax than I do... Not fair at all. I have considered billing them for my computer related services, even though they don't use me, but in the end it would probably just be a useless gesture, which would create additional frustration for me.

You "use" public education every day in every way

I took it a step further..I grow my own tobacco
I figure I grow most of my own food, why not tobacco.
And this way I know it is chemical free and no additives :o)
The only
The only problem I can find with that plan is that cigarette tobacco must be flue cured, and from my understanding the process is a bit involved.
There's probably some way you could do it at home with some research.
I sent this to my elderly parents
who drive up to NH to buy their cigarettes at a discount. This is my dad's response:
The funny thing about it is that you can smoke grass cheaper. What is this police state coming to? Dad
My parents got cool I guess.
