2nd amendment not upheld! Concealed carry across state lines LOST in the Senate today.

Isn't this our inalienable right? We should be allowed to carry across state lines and without a permit no less. This is ridiculous. The vote was lost by TWO and TWO republicans defected! I think these two need a special reminder of our RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.

"WASHINGTON – The Senate on Wednesday rejected letting people carry hidden guns in 48 states if they have a concealed weapon permit in any one of them, a rare victory for gun control advocates in a Democratic-controlled Congress that has been friendly to the gun lobby.

Opponents said it would force states with tough concealed weapon permit restrictions to let in gun carriers from states that give permits to convicted criminals, minors and people with no firearms training.

"It's extremely dangerous policy," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., noting that her state demands fingerprinting, federal background checks, a course of training, and verification by a local sheriff before issuing a permit to carry a concealed gun.

A strong majority of the Senate, in a 58-39 vote, supported the measure, which would require most states to honor the concealed weapons permits issued by other states. But the tally was two votes short of the 60 votes needed to add the measure as an amendment to a defense bill.

Twenty Democrats, mainly from western or rural states, joined all but two Republicans in voting for the measure, which was promoted by the National Rifle Association and other gun rights groups. They included Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and both Democratic senators from Colorado, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota and Virginia.

There were also notable defections. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., and Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., who voted to strip the District of Columbia of its gun control laws last February, opposed the concealed weapon measure. Specter was a Republican at the time of the previous vote.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, a pro-gun rights Democrat who faces a primary challenge next year in a state with strong gun control sentiments, also opposed it. "I strongly believe that the gun laws that are right for New York are not necessarily right for South Dakota, and vice versa," she said.

NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre told The Associated Press that, despite the defeat, the vote showed that "we have the wind to our back." He called the vote "one more step down the road to allowing all Americans the full measure of Second Amendment protection."

Those who opposed it, LaPierre warned, "will see it reflected in support from their constituents."

The chief sponsor of the measure, South Dakota Republican John Thune, said it would reduce crime by allowing law-abiding citizens such as truck drivers to protect themselves as they travel from one state to another."

...I cut out what the opponents had to say.

Funny how

they feel the urge to bring up "pre-empting" states' laws when it comes to gun control, but they vote cheerfully to "pre-empt" when it comes to ramming socialist policies and taxing/spending programs down our throats.

They are the worst hypocrites EVAR.

TOPIC: OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

First off, I am appalled that I even have to write this for two reasons. First, today you voted NO on a bill that would have helped to restore our Constitution Right to bear arms in this country. This is disrespectful to all Americans and to all the proud men and women who fought to make this country free. I feel very slighted by your vote today and I pray you think long and hard about the US Constitution and the American people before you choose to make another vote that restricts my RIGHTS as a citizen.

Secondly, why does our Senate even need to cast a vote like this in the first place? You and our fellow Republicans should be fighting tooth and nail to undo all the gun control legislation that has illegally barred the American people from their inalienable rights as Citizens of this great country set by the US Constitution. You had an opportunity to restore a missing piece of this great nation and you failed miserably today.

I think a response and a public statement is very necessary on why you decided to vote no against the Constitution today.

I figured it would be defeated...

so I'm not really disappointed but I'm getting sick of this line:

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, a pro-gun rights Democrat who faces a primary challenge next year in a state with strong gun control sentiments, also opposed it.
"I strongly believe that the gun laws that are right for New York are not necessarily right for South Dakota, and vice versa,"she said.

Nowhere in the Constitution's Bill of Rights does it state that one's enumerated, Natural Rights granted them by their Creator are different from another human's Rights just because they reside in different states.

The Constitution is now little more than toilet paper that the Elites use to wipe their rear ends.

They pick and choose might

They pick and choose what might 'preempt state laws'. Both Ohio senators voted against it. Two votes would have passed. Thank God Voinovich is retiring after this term but we must suffer Brown for a while yet.

**********

Thank you for expressing your views regarding concealed firearms. Please be aware that concealed carry laws are a matter currently determined by state governments.

Any national legislation on concealed weapons would preempt state laws and create a national standard that might not meet the needs of local communities. Law enforcement organizations have spoken out repeatedly against creating national concealed weapons laws that could increase the dangers our police officers face every day. I will work to promote common sense gun safety laws that provide balanced and effective protection for our homes and communities while protecting our constitutional rights.

If any bills on concealed carry laws are considered in the Senate, I will keep your views in mind. Thank you again for contacting me.

Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown
United States Senator

This idiot doesn't understand...

that CCW licensees are by default, LAW ABIDING CITIZENS and more than likely won't be posing a danger to LEO's in the first place? Doesn't this knucklehead realize that convicted criminals CANNOT get CCW permits?

Sen. Thune's been trying to get this legislation passed for years and this is the closest he's come. Interesting considering the makeup of the Senate that he got so many Democrats on board. Let not your heart be troubled, Liberty is brewing out there. Our struggles will not be in vain and I offer encouragement to all of you.

We have been created with Liberty innate to our existence and our Creator gives us each the strength to fight for it. Stay strong and persevere!

Exactly right

It's all about convenience and being able to conjure a good enough and believable excuse. Hopefully by now the American people have had enough and will out these crooks in suits.

I Will Not Follow Unconstitutional Laws.

Anyone trying to enforce unconstitutional law upon me, will die.

That is the very point of the right to bear arms.

Wonder if it will come back?
