Chase Bank Indiscriminately closing credit card accounts

0 votes

I went to use my Chase (WAMU) credit card online, it was denied. I called chase and ask why. they told because of an updated credit report they have closed my account. not too long ago, I told chase if they didn't lower my interest rate, I'd go with some one else they dropped if from 14.99% to 9.9%. I have good credit and seldom carry a balance on my credit card. I make online payment at least 9-10 day before due date.
If you have a Chase credit card, you may want to check often to see if they haven't closed your account.

JP Morgan Chase they take your bailout money and spit on you.

Update: letter from chase: " total available credit on bankcard too low"

Chase stinks

....so the same thing happened to me. I do use credit however, honestly we are in a bind and I simply can't get out of the debt I am in at any fast rate though I am trying. I have worked so hard to keep my credit score up in these hard times - it is over 730 - and now Chase closes my account because my limit isn't high enough? Whatever. I hate to give them any more money. Has anyone just simply quit paying them? How fast does it take to deteriorate your credit score and does it really matter anymore? Is it wise to just take that money to pay down another debt faster? ...or better yet just keep the cash on hand?

Okay, so I'll say it....

Being debt-free is the greatest form of Anti-Semitism :)

I was upset at first

but decided not so bad, I'll just keep some Extra cash on hand. How can I purchases items online with out a credit card? I don't want to use debit card online.

Closed my WAMU Card too

They sent me a letter stating I had too much mortgage debt. The thing is, I have an 800 FICO score! This is done by a computer regression algorithm with about 4 inputs making these decisions. They are not really bankers any more as they've boiled everyone down to 4 or five equations and can use a spreadsheet to do all the thinking that a 'banker' used to do in the past.

Oh well, I just went down there and withdrew $15,000 in cash from my account the next day. Had a great time watching them count it out with a bewildered look on their face.

The things that cause

bad credit are really hard to understand. Things that we'd consider responsible, like always paying off your balance can work against you.

Defend Liberty!

You shouldn't be using

You shouldn't be using credit cards. They are a rip off. They charge merchants 3% which the merchant then passes on to you. In addition, they charge usurious interests.

Credit cards are for people who can't handle money. If you don't have the money to purchase an item, you can't afford it. Also, credit cards open you up to identity theft. And finally, credit cards leave a trail of all of your financial transactions, what you purchased, for how much and where and when. Do you really want everyone to know your business?

Use cash. Everyone takes cash. Cash is king.

Get rid of your credit cards.

I had quit using credit cards

I keep one for online purchases, now I don't have that, no worries

They also closed my account

Chase closed both my accounts with no reason whatsoever. When I asked, first they said that they received a letter from Experian recommending that they close my account. When I called Experian, they denied that and were pretty upset about it. When I called Chase a second time, they said the same thing, but when I walked into a branch, and an employee called and put me on with a supervisor, the story changed. They told me that my accounts were too close to the limit. Then why did they establish a limit in the first place if they're not going to let me get even close. I was about half way to my limit!!! Does anyone know if there is legal action that can be taken. I'm furious!!!

Three months

ago I was two days late on my 0% chase card. They jacked my rate to 28%. I sent them the balance two weeks later when I learned of their shenanigan and they refused to compromise. They also charged me the $40 for being late and $15 for phone payment.

They ended up charging me 45 days at 28% although it was only 12 days.

Then my balance was still somehow $20. I sent them a check for $30 to make sure to finalize their rip-off. My next bill somehow came and it was $43. I have no idea why but am forced to pay or they will destroy my perfect credit.

Chase is the worst of the rip-off banks.

I used to get ten offers per week for 0% loans for 12-18 months. Now only BoA sends me offers of 6% for six months.

These bankers are ruthlessly contracting credit just like you read about. I wish the whole USofA would just stop paying these thieves the money that they created out of thin air.

yea yea

I can not deny that I have been a good slave but when they offered interest rates at 0% it sets up an environment that says your an idiot if you do not take their offers. It is hard to say no to interest free money.

Is it working? How low is your score?

That interest free money....

Always has strings attatched....

And there's a poisonous snake on the other side of that string.....

I'm not sure of my credit score now - - last I checked it was in the 600's ....it's been years since I had plastic that wasn't a dedit card but I think it's going to be a while till it gets to zero (I was a good slave when I was in my 20's).....

You have got a long way to go

600? You need to get some credit cards, rack 'em up, and then default. Or, maybe it is the other way around. You need to pay them off every month so as to be a bad slave. The people with the highest credit scores that I have spoken to are just the youngest with no credit history.

Screw them!

I got a letter from Chase on Monday saying that they were cutting my $6,000 credit limit in half because they had found a history of blah blah blah etc. with Experian. I tried to get my credit report online but was denied because I didn't have a credit report #...lol and the same thing when I called them. My score is over 730 and have never had a late payment and have been paying off my card as quickly as I can and hardly ever have a balance.

Obviously they are punishing the "Good People"

Answer1984...

all you have to do when you call their automated line is say that you have been denied credit. Even if you haven't, they have to send you a free credit report, minus the score. You can do this wih all three major bureaus. Try it, you'll like it.

Credit is a racket...

The bankers are the most ruthless people on the planet. They will shake you down for every cent you have and when that is gone they will suck the air out of your lungs and just as you draw your last breath they drain you of every last drop of blood.

Bastards.

Kill the creature from Jeckll Island!

had that happen to us lasdt year!

yeah....

we accidentally paid our chase/sonycard one day late.....

and because i'm in school we had racked up a little debt on our various cards and PRESTO....

the one day late thing turned into chase "reviewing" our account and our debt to income ratio (which i find very disturbing but anyway)...

and damn it if they didn't shut my card down.
first time i'd been late in i don' t know how long.

I'd consider that they'd be doing you a favor.

Note that you mentioned you normally don't carry a monthly balance. This means you are not a profitable customer to them as they can't charge you interest, penalties and late fees. That is the more likely reason you got canceled.

The hard fact about credit cards that most people don't understand is:

If you DON'T have the cash to pay for something - you shouldn't HAVE a credit card.

If you DO have the cash to pay for something - you don't NEED a credit card.

I'll remember that next time

I have a $6000 medical bill that my insurance won't cover.

Not every credit card transaction is frivolous spending--that should be blatantly obvious!

The problem isn't having the credit or the card--it how you use it.

I may open up a second checking account

with a debit card to use online. have a stop payment on any transaction which will superceed the balance. I've talk to the bank and they said I could do this.

DO NOT use a debit card

DO NOT use a debit card ,ON-line ..Very dangerous if stolen ID.
GET a credit card of any rate % , but pay off BAL every month.
SAFETY first.
YES, good people do good things.. The rest are liars.

Don't sweat it.

Almost all credit cards, mortgages, etc. have an acceleration clause which allows them to call in the loan with or without cause. You are not required to pay it either way so it's nothing to get shook about.

they cancelled my

mac card. for suspicious activity but will not elaborate any further, other than many transactions on said mac card were out of state and i made no previous arrangements to do so. (?)
i also carry no debt.

Foreigners on the phone

can be so aggravating. Half the time they have a very condescending attitude toward me. I assume it is because they know I am American. They seem to think that I am not very smart.

So many companies are doing this, as we all know. Phone, computer, ISP, banks and many others I can't think of now. I am routed to South Africa or India most often.

I don't like it. I think of our jobs going overseas.

Sometimes I feel rather sorry for them, as they seem to feel afraid at times. probably of losing their job.

These companies doing this are not showing Americans any respect, just like the politicians and the banks. Why should they? They know they can run over us, and there is nothing we can do about it. Or so they think.
