Would You Join a Militia to defend the constitution?

Is it time to form a Liberty Militia to defend the constitution from enemies both foreigh and domestic? After all, the right to form a militia is protected by the constitution itself!

If it's sole pupose was to defend the constitution, the MSM would be hard pressed to find a reason to call it a terrorist organization! If it happens, my guess is the two most represenative groups would be the RP people and the regular military!

OP Update!!! - Maybe some of you long-timers have seen this MO before. Somtimes I like to stir things up a bit just to get the DP awake and alive again with intense discourse and debate. I am indeed thankful we have such a forum to air out important things to think about - even if it takes a little heat to get things going!!! It still beats the hell out of TV! No?

A hundred million or more of us, armed, and dug in, could resist pretty much any occupation attempt. A central government, on the other hand, presents nuke-able targets.

Everyone should compare their commitment to liberty to these men

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr. noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later, he died from exhaustion and a broken heart. Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates. Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild-eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more.

What the hell, I'll join.

We, the American people, could use a big and powerful miltia. I believe the Michigan Miltia is currently the largest in the U.S. I'm not sure of their membership number (over 100,000?), however, including inactive members they have quite a few. We definitely need an organization in place to keep our government and elected officials in check and lawfully bound by that all important document and law of the land, the Constitution.

I don't think anyone

is debating whether or not there is a provision in the constitution for a militia, just that, no, it is not time to form a "Liberty Militia". Or to be fomenting such an action on an open forum, which is foolhardy. Something to consider: The Obama honeymoon is coming to an end, his approval ratings are slipping. What would be just the tonic for getting the still sleeping masses to coalesce again in rabid support for the administration? The "bogeyman" doesn't have to be Al Queda. The powers that be are just waiting to find a new "crisis" to turn in their favor. Also, as I posted earlier, I believe the founding fathers also exhausted every recourse at their disposal before being forced to
takeup arms to make themselves heard. It's wholly possible that if the King had listened to their grievances, history might be quite different. Maybe, maybe not. And why form a militia to share information or help other people learn what is going on in this Republic? We do that now, here on this site. So do others like C4L, etc.. You don't need a militia to do that. Let's not be rash, but show some patience.

In my humble opinion

even if BO ordered Federal troops to make a move against the American people I believe a large majority would refuse the order and turn on the Federal government. Military people are not totally brain washed plus they also swore an allegience to the constitution.

that is why we will have FOREIGN troops on our soil next week....they have no LOYALTY to the American people and will do as ordered. I sincerely hope I am wrong about that!

You think change will come overnight? With this country having been in free fall for years? Yes, let US start the "wiping out of a 1/3 of the earths population" shall we? So anxious for violent revolution. What is Ron Paul trying to do right now? He's trying to work within the system to affect change. Will it work? I don't know with the system being what it is. But he's still making the effort. He's being patient. This will not be a quick process. Make no mistake, if violent revolution is made inevitable, it will NOT be all flag waving and glory.

Let's get this straight!

* If it wasn't for militias America would have never existed and you'd probably be a serf in one country or another.

* You want the police state to give you your rights back or the military when they will shoot and kill you just like during the last depression (military vets from WWI)?

* You expect politicians to start reading their bills and vote fraud to end even though the enforcers of the police state will ensure it will continue forever?

* When the riots start like in Katrina and the police abandon their posts and military is stuck in Iraq, you'd rather be on your own in the mayhem against gangs and thugs?

* How many of you "Support the Troops" which are nothing more than canon fodder mercs that invade crappy 3rd world countries for resources? You join a Militia to defend your country and live up to responsibilities, not to collect a pay check and get money for college. The entire military is against the Constitution and should be dissolved. Defense is to be left to the militias. Why? Because it's corrupt and evil and leads to the situation we are in now where they are nothing but mercs looking for contracts jobs.

I could go on and on but the 2nd Amendment isn't there for duck hunting or catching burglars--it's to be used AGAINST YOUR GOVERNMENT (VIA MILITIAS) IF THEY GET OUT OF CONTROL.

This has been proven time and time again. Many of you so-called "patriots" need to re-read your constitutions.

Read the definition of " militia" and I don't mean the liberalized BS Timothy McVeigh version, I mean the true definition. "militia" actually means "defensive action" and it further means "all able-bodied citizens" meaning that YOU and I are already part of the "militia" and it is OUR DUTY to protect and defend our rights.

PS. We've been training together down in Texas for about a year. Welcome to the party.

and what it is focused on?

Patrolling, marksmanship,

Patrolling, marksmanship, communication, navigation, camping, small unit tactics in both rural (jungle) and urban (CQB) settings.
Emergency/ disaster response (we can't count on FEMA) including planning ahead, emergency field medicine, evacuations, crowd controll ect.

And, of course, politics.

What is more important to you? Defending the idea that a special group of people ought to be allowed and are entitled to violate everyone's liberties or actually standing up for those liberties?

I actually started this thread with the idea of it being a

discussion about a militia armed with information and knowledge more so than just weapons. However, as often happens on the DP, surprising thoughts develop and take the discussion into unplanned directions. But consider this.

Ron Paul is well aware of the fate of those who have gone against the same historical forces that we believe now need to be reigned in. In addition to running for president and doing all those debates, he has, over the last 20 years, had the courage to stand up for the constitution and its principles even when he was ridiculed and standing alone. (They don't call hime Dr. No for nothing).

So I ask you - compare HIS BRAVERY in introducing HR1207 and all of the other stuff he as done over the last two years - to our little musing and typing from the comfort of our homes. I contend RP's courage and actions TOWER FAR ABOVE our little squables and notions of courage! Compared to the good Dr., we are barely even in the fight at all!

I worry about RP now...

It's the word alone -

The word militia immediately conjures up images of those guys who dig survivalist bunkers, wearing camo, & then starting little cults or secret societies or personal armies where they can lead the charge. Or the IRA who like to claim credit for certain killings, or white supremacy extremist & militia groups which like to terrorize. Somewhere along the way it became associated with violence even though I don't believe that is how it's meant in the Constitution.

(there was even a dumb metal band called Militia and their songs had titles like Onslaught, Regiments Of Death, Termination, Thrash To Destroy, and so on. That's the majority of mentality behind the word militia, IMO).
Maybe you could just call it "Constitutionally Organized Citizens" or something. Just a thought. :)

Please understand no one is arguing the RIGHT to have militias and it is not about being BRAVE or not for gawds sakes!
It IS about given the current climate we are in NOW ....and knowing what we do about the fusion centers, the labeling of us us as homeland terrorists etc...
It is not wise to paint a target on your ass by announcing such things...it is not wise to target this forum because this is exactly the type of posting that will be used against us!!

PS ....It wouldn't hurt to look into what happened to the militias during the Clinton Era! Going off half cocked ( no pun intended ; - ) ...well maybe) can get good patriots killed or at least cause some some serious grief!!!
