What is the Purpose of Daily Paul?

If you ask people on Daily Paul this question, you will likely get many different answers. Some would say to get Ron or Rand Paul elected. Some would say to audit and abolish the Fed. But I think the real answer if far more fundamental: to discover truth.

When I first encountered Ron Paul, I was amazed at his honesty and integrity. He said things that I knew to be right -- ideas that had been buried deep under years of programming and conditioning. Things like balanced budgets, living within your means, a humble foreign policy. They soared in me as they were brought back to life, and I began to think about things in a whole new and fresh way while allowing the trappings of party politics to fall away.

But then there were those "strange" things that Ron Paul kept talking about too like the Federal Reserve and the New World Order. As I came over to Daily Paul, I was exposed to even more ideas of the Illuminati, the Council of Foreign Relations. I was also challenged with different ideas on religion, philosophy, and economics.

I was driven to read and learn as much as I could because Ron Paul had instilled in me one key thing: the desire to know and live by the truth.

This is what made Daily Paul one of the fastest growing sites on the web and the crown jewel of the Ron Paul libertarian movement. The main thrust was obviously the campaign and the political issues surrounding it, but when there were lulls in the action, you could always participate in a lively and intelligent discussion of deeper issues. While certainly there were strange ideas floated, they were discussed, dissected, debated, and vetted. Many of them were examined and discarded. Some of them held on as their evidence stood the test of scrutiny. We also shared ideas and techniques -- ways to make our lives better, ways to survive a coming economic collapse, ways to protect our families. This was the golden age of Daily Paul

Unfortunately, this has slowly and subtly changed. There is a strong movement within this site of late to silence this search for truth. They label those who do as "crazy" or "obsessed" or "kooks". And as of late, apparently they are banned from posting as well.

So what is our purpose here? Is the primary purpose of this site to promote a political agenda? If the answer is yes, then I think ultimately it is doomed to fail. This is exactly how the Republican party came to be what it is today. It became about the party and the platform as they abandoned what should have been the focus all along: truth.

There are some ignorant posters here who chastise people for simply wanting to know the truth, but the fact is that you cannot make proper decisions in life without knowing the truth. So many problems in our nation have come as a result of people simply not knowing or understanding the truth. The Republicans and Democrats both were founded around certain truths, but because they abandoned this central principle, they drifted away and became the embodiment of lies.

If there are flaws in the libertarian movement, we need to recognize that fact and be willing to change. If there are flaws in some of our candidates, we need to recognize that fact and adjust our actions accordingly. If there are flaws in our understanding of the functioning of our country, we need to expose them and take action. We should not limit discussion to certain "safe" or politically correct (at least to DP) questions. If truth is your aim, you should fear no topic as each can be refuted with facts and dismissed resulting in the education of all involved.

We need to be open to new ideas and question old, long standing views in a relentless pursuit of truth in all things with integrity and respect, because ultimately, the truth will set you free.
