At the annual Graves County Republican Breakfast before Fancy Farm this morning, it was evident that a US Senate race has officially begun. Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who until now has merely been considering a run for Senate, is officially a full-fledged candidate. Where previously his finance disclaimer (required by the Federal Elections Commission) read "Paid for by Friends of Trey Grayson Exploratory Committee," all his banners, signs, and signup cards now simply read "Paid for by Friends of Trey Grayson." No more exploratory committee (though his website still displays the former disclaimer).
Les Fugate, Grayson's campaign spokesperson, confirmed with KYWordsmith.com that the campaign made the legal switch between the two campaign committees earlier this week.--
As for Dr. Rand Paul of Bowling Green, who is embarking upon his first foray as a candidate for public office, a big announcement is expected to come this Wednesday, August 5th on Fox News. Paul will be in New York for a three day period where he has at least one fundraising event scheduled.
