Homeland Security Chief Outlines Full-Spectrum Surviellance Program

Speaking Wednesday at the Council on Foreign Relations new headquarters in Washington DC, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that, “DHS, together with the Department of Justice, State and others, is brokering agreements with our allies in Europe and around the world to share information on air travelers in advance of their travel”. She also noted that this information will include biometric data.
Napolitano’s speech “Common Threat, Collective Response: Protecting Against Terrorist Attacks in a Networked World”, was primarily focused on forming a national security grid consisting of Federal agencies and departments, State and tribal governments, as well as individual citizens and families. When asked directly if the department was suggesting educating children in indicting schoolmates and family, she responded by saying, “I think you’re getting the gist of what I’m saying.”

I like the part
when she says they have to be careful about profiling individuals. Like profiling Ron Paul supporters or constitutionalists?
I listened to Janet very closely during the Q & A's.
She seems (and of course we have to take her at her word) to be much more concerned about civil liberties than even the questioners were. She brought up the "balance" aspect on no less than 3 occasions. Personally, I think that "balance" is currently skewed much too far towards injuring civil liberties, but my hope is that this DHS secretary is more in tune with those liberties than Chertoff or Ridge ever were. Of course the laws themselves are utterly horrible to begin with (read here "the patriot act") giving that department and nearly all departments of the fed gov way too much power, but the application of those laws may be "softer" under this secretary than the DHS of the past administration (which was an abomination). One can only hope. Just to peg me politically and to prevent being called a "lefty" I'm a libertarian leaning republican, much in the same vein as RP. A Constitutionalist.

I think there are several important issues needing attention right now....I don't know which should be MORE important. The BC issue is important because the man who sits as "head" of this country may be in breach of the laws which constitute the very foundation of it. We can't all agree on everything, ya know? My focus has primarily been on the healthscare bill, codex and the flu BS. We all contribute...
Btw, my comment was in reference to the govt attempting to divide and conquer, so I'm not sure what your comment was about.
