Japan's opposition says it's ready to stand up to US

Japan's opposition says it would be willing to stand up to US if it wins upcoming election

Japan's main opposition party said Monday that if it comes to power in this month's elections it will confront the United States on key military and diplomatic issues, but still regard it as the Asian nation's most important ally.

The Democratic Party of Japan is widely tipped to win the Aug. 30 vote and topple the Liberal Democratic Party, which has ruled Japan for virtually all of the last 54 years.

Japan, the world's second-largest economy, largely sets its own course in financial matters but over the decades has followed Washington's lead in broad areas of military and foreign policy. It relies on the U.S. for nuclear deterrence and hosts tens of thousands of American troops, as well as fighter jets and warships.

Katsuya Okada, the secretary general of the Democratic Party of Japan, says it is time for Japan to become more independent and assertive.

Okada, who would likely have a key role in the new government if the opposition party takes power, criticized what he described as Japan's obedience to Washington. Tokyo has largely followed the lead of the U.S. over the last five decades despite sharp policy changes under the 11 different U.S. presidents who have served during that time.

This is what Benjamin Fulford

has been saying for a number of months.

It appears as though Japan is ready to shed some of the colonialism that was covertly foisted on them after WWII.

Hahahahahaha, I had a good

Hahahahahaha, I had a good laugh at that title. The swiss didnt even stand up to the US. And modern Japan is the US's creation. They ran that place for decades and no doubt still have a say.

"more independent and assertive"

Let's hope other countries follow suit.

Japan

I dare suggest that there is a fair amount of animosity towards the U.S being harbored in Japan. Considering we made most of their cities take on the appearance of the surface of the moon during WW2. Not to mention the dropping of two atomic bombs. They are just biding their time. Sooner or later the U.S. will not be able to control them.

Wow. Thanks for the article.

Wow.

Thanks for the article.

My major in College was Japan Studies, with an emphasis on post-war economics. Right around graduation (1988-90), tensions between the US & Japan were high. Japan's economy was booming on the back of cheap money. It was the first time I'd heard the term "bubble economy" and I had no idea what it meant. Economic tensions were high because Japan was buying up the world and challenging the US economic hegemony. Japan was starting to be seen as a threat.

Right about that time, a book came out titled The Coming War with Japan. It made a huge splash, and especially in our department, since the writers were outsiders. They weren't Japan scholars, so the book was widely panned. They didn't know about Japan's "unique characteristics" etc.

Anyway, the book predicted, eventually, a resource war between the US and Japan as oil ran out! This was back in 1989! I think they pegged the war for something like 2037, but I don't remember exactly.

But this article is part of a larger picture: Japan has always been our good, docile, obedient ally. It would certainly be a different world our relationship with Japan becomes more complex.

Yet another sign of the times, that US power is fading.

Having spent 5 years in Japan long ago,,,

,,,what I worry about is if the Japanese and Chinese Communists join forces militarily and economically U.S. world leadership is toast, because they can/could buy most natural resources worldwide, eventually. { Oil priced in Gold backed Yuan ?}

Unless, unless, the U.S. wise-es up by ending the Fed, and quickly re-introduces Gold backed/redeemable money, and I think the Ron Paul movement is the only way to accomplish this.

You have some strange ideas,

You have some strange ideas, they dont get along like that, maybe your trying to present us with the next boogeyman.. And how would that toast US leadership(they have a secret hitman squad for "key" persons like Cheney's?)? Oh you mean the US's role as leader of the world would be toast. Well thats arguable but, I would think anyone/group would be better off to pass on the "leadership" coming out of DC or any government for that matter... but then when your dealing with a global hegemony, you dont really have that choice.

Anything is possible.

Please compare how the U.S. and Communist China got along right after the Korean war and right up to the Clinton years.
Now the U.S. taxpayers owe the Communist Chinese over 2 Trillion??? I think most living American Korean war Vets are livid over that,,,and the Chinese have nukes, so I don't think our military might scares them.

I've never really understood...

...why "U.S. world leadership" is either necessary or desirable, anyway. Can't we just be a normal country that minds its own business? 100+ years of empire and euphemisms for empire seem to have muddied our thinking.

The 1944 Bretten Woods Agreement,,,

,,, Was signed by the then world leaders since, apparently they already knew the outcome of W.W. 2.
Since the U.S. infrastructure was not devastated by the war, it was decided that the Gold redeemable U.S. dollar would be the money used in all international monetary transactions.
This caused the rest of the world to depend on using U.S. dollars and backing their own currencies with dollars to give them real value.

The would be Empire builders have taken advantage of this up to now, even though we went off the Gold redeemable dollars in 1971. Currently around the world, cracks are appearing in this U.S. monetary strangle hold. Lets hope we can End the Fed, before it's too late to save ourselves and return to the real Liberty provided by We the People's use of sound money among ourselves.
