I got an e-mail today from a trade association I belong to about Health Care

0 votes

It is asking the members to contact Congress and let our voices be heard.

I wrote the following as a response to the e-mail and posted it on the Associations member to member blog. (ARA is the American Rental Association) I own a tool and heavy equipment rental store hence my forum name. Here is my response which includes what they are lobbying for.

"Have y'all read your e-mail today?

"ARA SUPPORTS:

Comprehensive insurance market reform.

An individual mandate that requires everyone living in the United States to have health insurance. We need everyone in the system so that costs will be reduced and those who have insurance will stop paying for those who dont.

Insurance companies must guarantee that health insurance will be issued to anyone who applies. Everyone is required to be in the system so insurers must be required to sell them insurance.

No limits on pre-existing conditions and no rating for health status. With every American in the system, there is no need for health status rating.

ARA DOES NOT SUPPORT:

An employer mandate. Small businesses cannot afford to pay these benefits in a difficult economy. Those who cannot afford their insurance should receive assistance through the tax system.

A public insurance option. The governments role is to set the rules of the marketplace and then enforce those rules. We dont need government participating in the market to keep it honest, just honest regulation."

I like the Rental Show, I like all the resources that the ARA has that helps with my Rental Business. I don't like fascism and socialism.

Doesn't anyone see that this could be done to our industry as well?

Any crackhead that comes in off the street, we would be required to rent them a machine to go push over a burning nail factory. Because all people must have equal tool coverage. Regardless of whether they want it or not, whether they are competent to run it or not, whether they can pay for it or not.

After all "Everyone is required to be in the system so Renters must be required to rent them tools.
and Those who cannot afford their rental should receive assistance through the tax system.

Instead of lobbying the federal government to make it mandatory for us to have this or that, and make the rest of us foot the bill for those who chose not to pay their own way, why aren't we lobbying to be left alone.

Who actually voted for the ARA to lobby Congress for this? In general small business owners aren't socialist nor have fascist tendencies because we realize that there isn't any profit in it.

It seems every time I get notice of the ARA lobbying for something it is something that will decrease my standard of living, and further put my son, his son, his son, etc. etc. ad nausem into debt.

I have an idea how about lobbying for a free market, in which folks decide what goods and or services they purchase or provide based on their needs and what the other fellow is willing to offer in exchange?

Does no one we have elected to run this thing, nor the vast majority of members understand that you can't spend, inflate, regulate, mandate, confiscate, your way to utopia?

They more we as business owners and individuals are forced to act communally to worse of it all becomes.

Any advice on where I can get some cheap doors for my John Deere 544B front end loader? My operator bent them up pretty bad by over turning the thing. I would prefer to get some used ones, and have a salvage yard in Ohio. Any advice would be helpful, thanks!!

Update on Health Care e-mail from ARA and blog responses

So far 111 people have read the thread. There have been 6 resposes. Of the 6, one says,

"While I agree that many of the positions being advocated may not be in the best interests of many, if not all, of the members, it is important that we remain relevant to the conversation if we are going to have any influence at all. "

another says:

"There is no doubt that with 4500+ members we will disagree on aspects of legislation. However at the end of the day, we should agree more than disagree and I think we are in that position. I also think and hope that some kind of legislation will come out of this congress. . . . . . . . . . . I also am sure I will not like the entirety of the final bill.We can just hope that the final bill will benefit most of our members."

Another says:

"So don't get me wrong here, I am not taking sites or something, but what i am wondering is why most Americans are against health care available for everyone? Isn't that one of the most important things in life? knowing that you will not die in front of a hospital because you can't afford the hospital bill?"

"Oh Jonathan I agree with you and have followed the ARA positon as much as possible. I had not seen the "must cover everybody and the no ratings" position until today. I called "blank" and had her read this blog and told her that I do not agree with this too."

another:

"Wow! How refreshing to hear you guys speaking about a document such as the Constitution. Editorial quip in Charlotte newspaper today
U S Constitution required 2 pages
New Health Plan 1000 pages
I agree we should pressure our association to speak on our behalf to resist this new legislation. There is no good to come from it. Look how well government does securing our borders and running the postal system or a recent example "Cash for Clunkers". If not so serious to us all would humorous."

The best one:

"Jonathan,

I know most of you guys figure I'm a bleeding heart liberal. Many years ago my boss gave me this book below, and it changed everything I thought about our government and political situations. And when I hear comments like yours, ALOT, especially from ARA folk, I am surprised that those people call themselves Republican.

Maybe I've got something wrong, but it certainly sounds to me that your thoughts and comments are Libertarian principles. And whenever I discuss Libertarian ideas with people they tend to agree with them. Yet we remain a two party system that clearly is never going to work.

Why is this? This book for me was amazing, I never thought about any of these things. Always called myself a democrat. Now I am offended when people assume I'm democrat.

I highly reccomend reading it, and half.com has copies as low as .75 cents! Written by the 2000 libertarian candidate for president.

I think I may have also posted this on here a long time ago, and will again, and encourage everyone to take less than two minutes to try this test and see what your results are! I think many may be surprised.

and my last post:
It seems that the folks that are for this bill, are for it based on "hope & change" and not based upon what is actually in it. ( I am speaking of the country as a whole not anyone on the forum)

It further seems that the people that are against it, are against it based upon the actual content of the bill.

So the question is who would you feel most comfortable supporting a person who lives in a land of theory and fantasy, and thrives upon the false notion that just wishing things better and trusting others to change things for the better is the best course of action.

Or would you rather put your faith into the actual actions to be caused and the actual content of the bill?

I challenge you to think of 3 things that have a positive impact on the majority of peoples lives that the federal government controls. And, does these 3 positives come along with unintended consequences that will be to the detriment of the population later on.

84% percent of the country is happy with their medical care & insurance coverage, that leaves 16% +/- that is not.
http://www.zogby.com/soundbites/ReadClips.cfm?ID=18967

What is the rationalization to force 84% that are happy with their care into something they don't want?

Here is a quote from and article by Brian Roberts:

"* We watched as they destroyed the financial sector by forcing banks to give loans to people that could not afford them then they stepped in to save the day by gaining direct control of our financial sector.
* We watched as they destroyed a once powerful automotive industry through excessive regulation and labor union control then they stepped in to save the day by gaining direct control of our automotive industry.
* We listened as they verbally assaulted capitalism when government regulations were to blame.
* We watched as they asked the American people to fund a $1 trillion dollar stimulus bill, they yelled emergency as they slipped cash from our childrens pockets to their political allies.
* We watched, as they worked to destroy the rule of law by arbitrarily dictating revised terms to legal contracts and installing a Supreme Court justice that promotes social justice over rule-of-law.
* We know, they intend to control our children, its written in the GIVE Act.
* We know, they intend to control our resources, its written in the Cap and Trade Bill.
* We know, they intend control of our very lives, its written in the Health Care Bill.
* We know, they intend to control our votes, the 2010 census is now controlled by the white house and the ones registering voters are corrupt
* We watch and wait as they install unaccountable czars for dictating not representing
* We watch and wait as they increase organizer funding from millions to billions of our tax dollars. And we wonder how these groups will be used to steal our life, liberty and property from us."

Congress states over and over, that we are a democracy (we aren't supposed to be), but yet in the same breath will state support for a measure that 84% of the people don't want. It is a case of follow the money. Look at all the gatherings and phone calls our alleged representatives are getting against this crap, yet they still say the will vote for it, even though the constituents are against it.

So, even though they continue to tell people that our Constitutional Republic is a democracy and a democracy follows the will of the majority, the instead follow the will of the ignorant minority.

Guess what that isn't a democracy it is a fascist state. Democrat Republican is doesn't matter.

P.S Brent, I think the reason so many folks espouse libertarian ideals is that individually folks want to be left alone, it is when folks join the herd on one side of the pasture we call the two party system they lose the ability to differentiate between what is theirs and what is some one else's property or liberty.

They then tell one of the two shepherds it is okay for him to get some of the other sheep's stuff, even though they would never think of going over there and taking it themselves. Cause that would be stealing. But, when we ask one of the parties to get it as a group that is perfectly well and good.

You know why it is so easy for sheep to be lost? Cause they just nibble a little here, and don't look around, move, nibble a little here, don't look around, move, nibble a little here, don't look around, move. And, pretty soon they do look up and the can't see anything they are familiar with, it all looks scary. Where is all my stuff, where are all my friends?

All I see are these two shepherds one with a R and one with a D on their shirts, and here they come they are telling me what I am nibbling on isn't what I really want, I want what is over there in that little bitty small pasture cause it is better for me.

Fantastic response! I hope

Fantastic response! I hope you get good feedback from it. The Awakening is in full stride now, I think, and the criminals are going to find it harder and harder to conduct 'business as usual' in DC.

Response

what kind of response are you getting on the blog?

None yet I just posted it, I'll keep y'all posted

It isn't a political blog it is a business process/sharing tips/how to/ type blog. But, whenever I have posted something like HR1207 or someone brings up taxes, or dealing with the government it is very refreshing to see the majority of the post support liberty.

That is what really pissed me off today, I am very confident that a group of small business owners didn't vote on our ballots for our association to lobby for this crap.
