US Support for Afghan War Plummeting

CNN Poll: US Support for Afghan War Plummeting
Posted By Jason Ditz

Following July’s record death tolls, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp poll shows that US popular support for the war is also at an all-time low, with 54 percent of respondents opposed to the ongoing war and 41 percent in favor.

This was a monumental change from the May version of the same poll. which showed 50 percent in favor of the war and only 48 percent against. President Obama has made escalating the war the centerpiece of his foreign policy campaign.

The finding was largely in keeping with an AP-GfK poll released late last month, which also showed growing opposition to both wars, and a 53-44 percent split on the Afghan war. This poll too showed a strong split along party lines, with most Republicans supporting the continued conflict and the vast majority of Democrats opposed.
ghan conflict is starting to shift. Ironically, it is perhaps President Obama’s desire to escalate the war that has made it significant enough to catch the attention of an increasing number of Americans, and sparked the growing war exhaustion the polls are now showing.

I am sick of Obama's "War For Drugs" aka ...

the war in Afghanistan! It is insane to have a "War On Drugs" here at home and at the same time have a "War For Drugs" in someone else's country! Both wars are a sham and we need to keep exposing that sham!

haha yes! Is is purely

haha yes!
Is is purely coincidence that we are fighting a "war" in afghanistan (remember no longer a war on terrorism) which just so happens to supply more than 90% of the world's opium supply?

Think for yourself, question authority

Where in the Constitution

Where in the Constitution authorizes the Congress to "pass the buck" to the President? As far as I know, only Congress has the authority to declare war - and they haven't done so since WWII!

I used to support our efforts in the middle east for a very long time. But now it makes me very unhappy, because I spent the time to learn and it woke me up. Ron Paul is the main reason that I woke up and I'll never go back asleep again.

So...

If only Congress can declare war, then why are we still in one when Congress clearly did not declare anything?

If our political representatives swear oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution, why do they always vote against it?

If our soldiers also swear an oath to the Constitution and in addition to that they have a legal obligation to disobey unlawful orders, why are so few of them even concerned about these issues?

...

I don't have the answer, just a question.

To declare war must Congress use the word "declare"? By voting the appropriation for a war, isn't Congress in effect "declaring" war?

See page 28...

Obama's radical friends & Afghan War

Hannity and others make hay about Obama's ties with Rev. Wright and Ayres but I am more concerned about the radicals he hangs out with like Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinski, and Tim Geithner. Unfortunately, Hannity wouldn’t touch this because they have used both parties for their purposes.

Kissinger was McCain’s foreign policy advisor during the campaign and now he is part of the Brzezinski and Obama team.

BTW both Geitner and Obama worked for the firm Kissinger and Associates. Obama right out of college (his first job) and Geitner right out of college (his first job)…one ending up working for the NY Fed and as Treasury Secretary is working to increase the power of the Fed and the other became president and is working to increase the power of the Fed.

In case you were wondering why the Peaceful Hopeful Obama is expanding the war in Afganistan:

In the Grand Chessboard written by Brzezinski (associate of Kissinger) in the early 90’s he states:

"For America, the chief geopolitical prize is Eurasia... Now a non-Eurasian power is preeminent in Eurasia - and America's global primacy is directly dependent on how long and how effectively its preponderance on the Eurasian continent is sustained.” (p.30)

"America is now the only global superpower, and Eurasia [which he defines a Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan] is the globe's central arena. Hence, what happens to the distribution of power on the Eurasian continent will be of decisive importance to America's global primacy and to America's historical legacy." (p.194)

"The most immediate task is to make certain that no state or combination of states gains the capacity to expel the United States from Eurasia or even to diminish significantly its decisive arbitration role." (p. 198)

[He discusses at great length the need to build an oil pipeline from Uzbekistan through Afghanistan and for America to control it. Unocal began constructing the Afghan portion of this pipeline within days of the fall of the Taliban]

“The attitude of the American public toward the external projection of American power has been much more ambivalent. The public supported America's engagement in World War II largely because of the shock effect of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.” (pp 24-5)

"Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multi-cultural society, it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstance of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat." (p. 211)

This is very similar to the Project for the New American Century’s white paper which laments that absent “a Pearl Harbor type event” there can be no American military control over things like oil in Iraq and the Eurasian oil flow that might one day go through Eurasia and Afghanistan. One of the scribes of this whitepaper was another Kissinger friend and associate Dick Cheney. But that is another story…

So I'll ask it again...Where

So I'll ask it again...Where are all the liberal war protesters? Why are they so silent?

They are too busy.....

Have you noticed that undeclared wars never end and we either...

lose or draw? There are also rules of engagement to follow.

"You know you never defeated us on the battlefield," said the American colonel.

The North Vietnamese colonel pondered this remark a moment. "That may be so," he replied, "but it is also irrelevant."

Remember the Vietnam War? Learn of what was done there, how we lost, and the similarities with what is going on now, but without any protests!

Just In: Four U.S. troops killed in southern Afghanistan

"KABUL (Reuters) - A roadside bomb killed four U.S. troops in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, where thousands of Marines are conducting the biggest operation of the war, the military said on Friday.

The death toll is on the rise among Western troops in Afghanistan. Last month, 76 foreign troops died in Afghanistan, making it by far the deadliest month of the war. This month 15 have already died, including 11 Americans.

A U.S. military spokesman in Kabul said the four were killed when their vehicle struck the homemade bomb on Thursday. He gave no details of the location of the incident or the unit to which the troops belonged."

The fact the Republicans

The fact the Republicans support the wars is explained nicely in the book "The Family“ - The Family : The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power by Jeff Sharlet.

Didn't think I could be surprised with everything that has transpired in the last 8 years. this book is an eyeopener. Damn it seems all of Washington DC is in some damn cult. And these cults effect our representatives reasoning.

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

Wait a minute, are you telling me that there is a war going on?

I didn't see anything on FOX about it. This must be some kind of conspiracy.

41% in favor?

Sickening.

I wouldn't put alot of stock

in any mainstream polls of any kind. Remember what happened during the presidential primaries.....! Part of a thieving, communists bag of tricks is to lie about everything, most especially anything of substance.

Three British soldiers killed in Afghanistan
Posted: 08:48 AM ET

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) — Three members of the British military have been killed in Afghanistan, the British military said Friday.

Three soldiers with Britain’s Parachute Regiment were killed when an explosion hit the vehicle they were traveling in north of Lashkar Gah, in southern Afghanistan, the British Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

A fourth member of their patrol remains in critical condition, the statement said.

Their patrol also was struck by gunfire from militants, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said.

The force had announced the deaths earlier but did not disclose the nationalities of the service members who were killed.

In other fighting, four Afghan police officers were killed when their patrol was bombed Thursday in Kandahar province, local officials said.

Two other police officers were killed in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, when the Taliban attacked motorcycles.
