Obama aims to overhaul immigration jail system
The reforms would send detainees without criminal records to less-restrictive sites that would be under more federal oversight.

Pledging more oversight and accountability, the Obama administration announced plans Thursday to transform the nation's immigration detention system from one reliant on a scattered network of local jails and private prisons to a centralized one designed specifically for civil detainees.

First it's illegal immigrants now in jail or prison, then it will extend to anyone in jail or prison, then it will extend to anyone that owes "debt".
First to the camps, then to the coal mines and meat packing plants.
Gulag and forced labor on the way, via Obum-ya.

this will let people get used to the idea

of federal non-criminal detention camps, practice with working facilites, fine-tune the system, justify the expenses of staffing the program.

Debt?

Exactly what do you think that means?

dodobogo

It means you are collateral

It means you are collateral on the national debt and they intend to warehouse that collateral. They actually do this already. There are no article 3 courts they are equity courts settling debts. Why do you think they call it "charges" when you get into court?

They literally sell bonds on the each and every case that comes through those court rooms and the court makes money and they warehouse the collateral on those bonds in jail and prisons.

They are really private corporations posing as government courts government etc. There reall is no law right now.

California will be the first state on the list.

Perfect timing, yes! How convenient.

Emptying California's crowded prisons

California's incarceration rate has been skyrocketing for decades. Now the courts have finally said: enough

On Tuesday, a panel of federal judges ruled that California must reduce its prisoner population by about 40,000 inmates over the next two years.

The ruling wasn't a surprise. After all, earlier this year the same panel issued a preliminary ruling that California's prison-overcrowding crisis was now so acute that it inevitably resulted in unconstitutionally poor levels of medical and mental healthcare for inmates. The preliminary ruling had mandated that the state reduce its prisoner population, but while the state made further arguments and tried to demonstrate that it was making a good-faith effort to improve conditions, the ruling hadn't been enforced.

On Tuesday, the judges, in a scathing ruling, declared California's efforts had utterly failed to improve conditions. So now, absent a successful appeal by the state directly to the US supreme court, the Golden State will have to implement one of the largest prisoner-reduction programmes in American history – and at great speed.
