Gen. Stanley McChrystal warned that means U.S. casualties, already running at record levels, will remain high for months to come.

Is this going to be an excuse to call up more troops to the region?
Or a reason to pull pull out?
Russia must be saying I told you so.

Taliban...armed and funded by the ISI

in the not-too-distant past.

And the ISI is controlled by the CIA. I wouldn't be surprised if the gov't was playing both sides, in a strategic depopulation effort. What do they care about cannon fodder?

I wish everyone would read Michael Ruppert's book Crossing the Rubicon. The ISI-CIA links will blow your mind.

James Traficant On The Taliban

But on Tuesday, September 11, if that date rings a bell, the Chinese Government signed a cooperative agreement with the Taliban government of Afghanistan which, in fact, harbors Osama bin Laden.

Taliban - Who thinks of these names?

Taliban not = Al Qaeda

Taliban does not = Al Qaeda.

I'm not saying they are good, but just that you can't throw them all together.

Also I think people have to actually COMMIT a crime to warrant law enforcement not just belong to a group.

An excerpt from Obama's speech to the VFW recently:

"We must never forget. This is not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which al Qaeda would plot to kill more Americans. So this is not only a war worth fighting. This is fundamental to the defense of our people."

(from legalizeliberty's thread: http://www.dailypaul.com/node/103801 )

So it looks like the story is now that our military is chasing the Taliban because if it doesn't, "al Qaeda" will plot to kill Americans.

No one has won there in 1000 years

We are not going to win either, especially when you have no reason for being there.

The Afghanis have won there

Of course, they have a reason for being there.

If the Taliban is that

If the Taliban is that strong there must be an awfull lot of, irreconsilables of Mulem persuasion there..Good people do Good deeds
and are no respecter of person

Limited Contingent

1979 - 120,000 Men - USSR

How'd that turn out?

"Be all that you can be."

Assassin, torturer, liar, con, psychopath, war monger, establishment go to man, racketeer, and trapped in a fantasy land of Rambo and Lt. Calley.

Been there, done that. Took decades to get over it.

I remember Liberty Belle's thread warning about McChrystal.

The article linked was not pretty.

http://www.dailypaul.com/node/93902
link directly to article: http://axisoflogic.com/artman/publish/Article_55787.shtml

"McChrystal’s rise to leadership is marked by his central role in directing special operations teams engaged in extrajudicial assassinations, systematic torture, bombing of civilian communities and search and destroy missions. He is the very embodiment of the brutality and gore that accompanies military-driven empire building. Between September 2003 and August 2008, McChrystal directed the Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations (JSO) Command which operates special teams in overseas assassinations"

Also...

"The new strategy practiced by McChrystal involves large scale, long term ‘special operations’ to devastate and kill the local social networks and community leaders, which provide the support system for the armed resistance."

Thundercloud, given that, my guess would not be he is saying this as a reason to pull out.

Yep, reading this weeks take on the situation

It appears this guy is there to poke the hornet's nest.
Not just to flush them out. But to create a larger sense of chaos, which will, of course, be the perfect excuse..And as I type this, I just heard a news update on the radio that 20k troops will probably be requested.

Americans fall for this crap every time.

And that number doesn't

And that number doesn't include all the blackwater/Xe mercenaries they send over there.

I'm glad you posted this, Thundercloud.

Seeing this article and then comparing it with the other article serves as a reminder of what a staged bunch of baloney this is.

I just can't see any way to reconcile the two articles.

From the article in your link:

"the commander offered a preview of the strategic assessment he is to deliver to Washington later this month, saying the troop shifts are designed to better protect Afghan civilians from rising levels of Taliban violence and intimidation. The coming redeployments are the clearest manifestation to date of Gen. McChrystal's strategy for Afghanistan, which puts a premium on safeguarding the Afghan population rather than hunting down militants."

...vs the statements in the other article:

"The new strategy practiced by McChrystal involves large scale, long term ‘special operations’ to devastate and kill the local social networks and community leaders, which provide the support system for the armed resistance."

"The SOT specialize in establishing death squads and recruiting and training paramilitary forces to terrorize communities, neighborhoods and social movements opposing US client regimes."

"McChrystal was a special favorite of Rumsfeld and Cheney because he was in charge of the ‘direct action’ forces of the ‘Special Missions Units. ‘Direct Action’ operative are the death-squads and torturers and their only engagement with the local population is to terrorize, and not to propagandize."

"Obama’s appointment of McChrystal as head reflects a grave new military escalation of his Afghanistan war..." (bold emphasis mine in the above quotes)

Which one seems more believable?

Wish I hadn't needed to post it at all!

But it looks like this is going to be a good way to compare Mission creep, to Media creep..And all the other creeps involved..
Stay tuned, I suppose!

This week the headline reads

U.S. Military Says Afghan Force Is Insufficient

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/24/world/asia/24military.html...

Request for more troops will follow soon, I'm sure.
Give it a few more days.

I didn't read the article,

I didn't read the article, but I wonder if this means that the Taliban is getting support from somewhere........ Pakistan, maybe? I wouldn't be surprised to see that end up in the news not long from now...
