An Antiwar Effort Only the Right Can Lead

0 votes

And so the libertarians and paleocons can do what the Left cannot: convert the soldiers of empire into anti-imperialists. Why then has the genuine Right failed at this? A minor reason is that some opponents of empire are inconsistent. For example, Pat Buchanan’s columns on war and empire are often strikingly at variance with his pronouncements on The McLaughlin Group. But a major reason is that the anti-imperialist Right has not attempted a serious organizing effort aimed at the population used as cannon fodder. It has not attempted to go much farther than writing, and that largely for an audience that is likely to be more urban and "Left." So it is writing for the wrong audience, and it has entirely failed, largely because it has not even tried to organize and mobilize the population whence the warriors are recruited.

In this failure, both libertarians and paleocons have lost two great opportunities. First, if they were to engage in such an effort, they could deal a blow to empire, which would perhaps be devastating. In so doing they might save the peoples of the world, including Americans, from untold suffering. Second, if they were to slow the exploits of empire, they would be looked to as great successes, and thus the rest of their program on minimizing the power of the state would gain respect and strength. Nothing succeeds like success.

So a great opportunity presents itself to the Right – both paleos and libertarians – whose movement has been captured and distorted by the neocons. The Right has a world to win, if it might be put that way, or at least an empire to terminate. What could be more inspiring than a view, an ideology, which rescues mankind from the suffering of war that has plagued humanity over the millennia? The Right can do this because it has a following at a crucial point in the machinert of empire. All that is required is the will and then the action.

John Welsh

The writer wrote for Counterpunch.com and other magazine on the left... Counterpunch is a muckraker, a good one, and writes more for the left that the right.

Antiwar.com, Justin Raimondo, Brandon Institute are Libertarian, and has established, with the blogg, antiwar.com, the platform John Welsh, who joined antiwar.com during the election... a number of Nader like supporters, like Welsh, joined... Raimondo was making moves as if he was going to support Obama... maybe this attracted them. But I feel the article is pandering to antiwar.com and not helping the Libertarians or Paleocons because of this:

"They speak the language of patriotism, "isolationism," and individual liberty, which are certainly not the first words that pop onto the tongues of the Left. But these ideas are part of the bedrock of the ideology informing the population from which the soldiers of empire are drawn. "

Welsh does not mention Ron Paul or anyone running for office on the antiwar ticket, and he guotes "isolationism", meaning he is appealing to the left and not us, because we spend allot of time explaining WE ARE NOT ISOLATIONISTS (because we do not see "isolationism" is means "Dump Israel" on the left.

I've started using this on empire supporters -

When the Soviet Union collapsed it's soldiers serving in it’s satellite nations were unpaid, humiliated, hungry, and unable to get home. Don’t our men and women in uniform deserve a better fate than that? We either bring them all home now, or leave open the very real possibility of subjecting them to the humiliation of defeat without a single battle lost, caused by our overspending.

It does get them thinking.....they are worried about our overspending....

Empire is not the means to an end?

Only the end of the means of others?

A war machine is just what it sounds like; a machine. Each individual part runs in conjunction with all the others, in step and without hesitation. Soldiers who refuse to follow orders are removed rotation. Attempting to target the soldiers of an imperial with anti-war propaganda (and that is what it is, all negative connotations aside) will only treat the symptom and not the cause. Obedience to the chain of command is ingrained from the very start of military training; only a certain percentage of the armed forces can ever be deactivated through civilian influence.

In order to cripple the fighting power of an overseas army two sources of sustenance must be removed; money and manpower. In order to removes said sources the entire image of the military must be poisoned in the eyes of the population. Such a strategy could be permanently crippling to both the offensive and defensive capabilities of the United States.

Political action through the ballot box is a more viable option than crippling of fighting capacity through corruption of the soldier ideology.

We don't have a defensive capability.....

The invasion coming over our southern border has been ignored for decades...we'd be better served with a free militia than what the professional fighting force has given us...

Yes. The U.S. military would be totally incompetent

at defending an invasion of the continental United States. It's a good thing we have the minutemen with their hunting rifles and C-mag support weapons to hold back the communists.

The communists...

Have already taken over....and the reconquistas are in the majority in several western states - where was our military? - oh yeah, overseas...And the National Guard that had been deployed to the border didn't have ammunition to even defend themselves and lacked the authority to apprehend illegal border crossing invaders.

Well according to this article here from Arizona:

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2008/06/12/20080612ju...

The National Guard constructed 121.3 miles of fence.

Believe it or not, the people trying to get across the border are actual humans! Just because someone happens to be born in a different country does not give us the right to shoot them like animals. It's called a proportional response.

If you believe the southern border should be declared a free fire zone, well, more power to you.
