By Nikki Schwab, Washington Whispers

Rand Paul announced his bid for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky less than one week ago, and there's already some chatter online about getting the candidate, son of former presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, his very own blimp. Rand Paul had told Whispers in an interview that he loved the idea of another dirigible, similar to the one that drew national attention to his dad in the GOP primary. That airship—from idea to execution—was the work of Ron Paul's fervent online grassroots activists. Rand Paul said a new blimp, or any other creative advertising or fundraising schemes, would most likely come from a similar source. "The great thing about our people is that they don't take no for an answer," Paul said. "They go out and do it anyway."

In a forum, one supporter opted for a smaller blimp. "We spoke with another company that has smaller hot airships that go for about $70-$80 K per month (plus a one-time cost for banners)," the supporter wrote. "That's still up there a bit but much more doable." But other Rand Paul fans weren't quite as convinced. One even called the blimp the worst idea ever.

No

Money better spent buying Rand Paul flags & passing them out to the district.

What about House Blimps?

Instead of 1 eighty thousand dollar blimp, why not buy a couple hundred Rand Paul weather balloons (or larger) and have supporters fly them over their houses for whole neighborhoods to see? They'll be seen everywhere!

bump

for great idea!

But -

blimps are so much fun! And exciting to see!

I say if Rand Paul wants one, he should have one. :)

Not a very good idea!

I thought this never really worked in the presidential campaaign it was way to costly and didnt generate enough votes. What Rand needs is clever inovative humorous radio and tv adds. And they need to be played before december before for new voters to register as a republican.Just the fact that the msm is giving this advise should mean a big red flag.

I'm in. I loved the blimp.

I'm in. I loved the blimp. It generated millions of dollars in free advertising!

You Judge A Tree By It's Fruit, NOT its Flower

and last but not least

it generated many new activist ideas and people and made history.

Thank you*))

very bad idea. The blimp did

very bad idea. The blimp did not turn into votes, in fact the areas where the blimp flew were the worst number Ron Paul had. It was worth a try once but it is extremely expensive and was not very productive. My vote is NO on the blimp.

perhaps because it was a presidential run

and google Ron Paul was not the best idea?....

listen my friend: Ron got ONLY 8% in the bleeping Freedom Loving NH so what you are talking about here?
the people on the ground did their job for the most part it is the handlers of the 35 million $ donated that did not.

sorry about the tone of my comment I am just not in the best mood right now.

Bad idea

In my opinion anyways, this is a bad idea. Way too costly. Why not just rent a plane during big events in KY to fly overhead with a Rand for Senate banner hanging off the back? Way easier, and a lot cheaper. Plus if you do it during big events in KY, I think it could get a good amount of attention.

I agree. An activist group

I agree. An activist group here in Phoenix that I work with rented a plane with a banner. It was not to much money and it was very effective.

you might be right

it is kind of costly...but so are TV ads*))

I tell you a story during the campaign there was a fellow who I am sure was a spy who was one of the people in charge of watching my activity in the movement anyways in one of the more off the campaign moments he admitted that he send 5(five) dollars to the blimp fund LOL

how about a hot air ballon

to drift around KY?

uhhhh

He only has 200,000 raised.

We spent over a million on that blimp. It was ok in a presidential race when Ron Paul already had 35 million raised, but not for something like this when Rand can't even gets funds as it is.

everyone is waiting for the moneybomb to donate

August 20....and we just had a Peter Schiff thing....why be so negative?
the local press TV coverage in KY would be terrific.
