Name calling and Loud Mouths
I am appalled at the name calling (Obama is a Communist) and the complete break down of civil discourse on the health care issue on this site. The guidelines specifically say not to engage in defamation of character - who's minding the gate? Shame, shame, shame. Yes, the democrats didn't announce their meeting - can you blame them when the health care lobbyists are sending thugs to threaten and intimidate anyone who tries to have a conversation on the issue? The actions of the bullies and loudmouths who shout down their congressmen and fellow citizens, who display racist placquards and call our president a Nazi, a communist, a socialist, or whatever foul name is favored for the day, MAKE THE REST OF US LOOK STUPID. Communist name calling
See below - Ron Aldof labels the President a communist and there it sits in direct violation of the site's guidelines.
I agree with the Thomas Jefferson quote - regardless of party, power corrupts.
I spent the last year researching the WWI and post WWI years, when fear of socialism had been augmented by a new found fear of communism. The "captains of industry" used that fear to actively incite mob violence against men striking for the eight hour day, workman's comp, rights we take for granted today. Men died expressing their opposition to Big Timber etc. Is that where we're at? That we're afraid of even discussing ideas?
I'm willing to read the house bills, as boring and as time consuming as that is, and not get my info from Fox or MSNBC or CNN.

Helene I am not a healthcare lobbyist. I am from a small rural community. Our congressman's upcoming town hall will be packed with small town people who are opposed to Obamacare being forced upon them. Obamacare's goal is for single payer healthcare. Even democrats should know that is socialism. PLEASE do more research on socialism.
Forget about lobbyists for one minute will you? Do you care nothing about the debt we are in? Do you not understand that this may well be the end of our republic? Do you not understand that many, many Americans believe this is theft? Do you care nothing about the fact that many ordinary every day thinking Americans, dems included, do not want government run healthcare?
The reason people are angry is because Congress has ignored the wishes of the people in regard to the bailouts and socialized medicine. After you are ignored over and over, you tend to speak louder.
Debt
I am horribly concerned about our debt. I am deeply concerned about our country going bankrupt - I think it's entirely possible. And it's a tough call - who do I trust, United Healthcare or my elected officials? Neither one have put my families interests first for a very long time. Between scandalous behavior, weak backbones and flat out greed, I don't believe any of us are better off. Oh, wait. Corporate run health care is better off. They haven't done me any favors. The government's not better off, the country is not better off, I'm not better off, but United Healthcare is doing great.

I have United Healthcare too. About 5 years ago they had me so disgusted after they sent me to a visiting doctor 35 miles from home, and then they sent me a statement that said the doctor wasn't authorized and that I had to pay. I tried to appeal it, but United said they never gave me his name. I asked why would I drive all the way to a strange town with a visiting doctor if United hadn't sent me. I paid the bill. They said it was my word against theirs.
Two years later I called United Healthcare to get an authorized doctor. They gave me that SAME DOCTOR! I had to tell THEM that he wasn't authorized. A couple of months after that, I get a call from United to chat about healthcare issues. You better believe I let them have it. I said that there was no way I would talk to them, because talking to United Healthcare gave me high blood pressure. ;-) I ended up telling her the entire story and she apologized over and over, and it was obvious how embarrassed she was.
And you know what Helene? With all that and more that they put me through, I would sooner keep that lying company than have ANYTHING to do with a lying, thieving, government run health care system. This is my line in the sand.
Because it is all about socialism and theft. You never mentioned that you were concerned about the demise of our republic. How is it that our sacred republic and what it stands for does not even cross your mind? Wait....strike that. I once thought exactly like you do. With the help of Ron Paul and the smart people here on DP, I woke up, shut off the TV, and have learned more in the past 2 years about our republic and the Constitution, than I have learned my entire life.

The American people are "Lobbying" against the government taking over another industry and stealing more of our money. I didn't know what I was doing, I campaigned for him cause thats what my friends were doing and we got him elected. He was only running for town council but he moved up quickly and became rep.
