Is Ron Paul the last relevant Republican in Washington?
Thomas Eddlem

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is the only Republican who has united the Republican Party behind a popular issue since the 2008 election.
Rep. Paul has united the GOP.

The question sounds facetious, since Texas Congressman Ron Paul failed to make any traction among GOP primary voters last year.

Throughout the 2008 presidential primaries, Rep. Paul railed against the Federal Reserve Bank and the coming economic crash. And all the other GOP candidates seemed to look at him like he had just crawled out of the grassy knoll. So did most voters, except for a coterie of highly-motivated and mostly young primary voters he organized. Then economic reality happened, and the establishment GOP's economic model crashed along with the party's election hopes. Everything changed.

Ron Paul's “rEVOLution” (revolution with “love” spelled backwards) has been the sole bright light among GOP organizing efforts since Obama's election. In a party marred by the awkward resignation of Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin from the Alaska governorship and a variety of sexual scandals (David Vitter, John Ensign, Mark Sanford, etc), Ron Paul alone has unified the GOP around an overwhelmingly popular proposal: Auditing the Federal Reserve. His bill (H.R. 1207) has every Republican House member, a score of senators and – according to a July Rasmussen poll – three quarters of the American people backing it. He even has significant bipartisan support: More than a third of the Democrats in the House also cosponsor the bill, which is the reason why two-thirds of the entire Democrat-dominated House is currently cosponsoring the legislation.

On the health care debate, Rep. Paul seems the perfect candidate to give the GOP an authoritative spokesman to oppose Obama's expensive health care agenda. Dr. Paul is a medical doctor, an obstetrician who has delivered more than 4,000 babies.

Meanwhile, the Ron Paul revolution appears to be flowering politically. Consider the following:

Ron Paul is MY President

Ron Paul MUST be elected President. Sure there are other freedom fighters in the house and senate, but Ron Paul is the guiding force. No one has the length of experience and solid voting record that he does. You can go back and look at videos of him speaking in the early 1980s where he said the SAME thing he says today (audit the fed, control spending, get government the hell out of the way).

Ron Paul is the most principled and steadfast politician in Washington. The fact that so many of the public went along with the talking heads on TV and ignored him last year is THE reason we are in the mess we are in. If people had half a brain they would see right through the dictatorship run by the insiders and get some REAL change. Obama talked a good game but in the end turned out to be just another freedom hating asshole. Lots of folks I talked to who were duped into voting for him are pretty mad right now!

I like the last line about

I like the last line about the tail wagging the dog. The truth is however that WE ARE THE DOG they are the tail, the American people just have to realize it.

RP is the most relevant one.

But, there are some "unsung heros", like my Congressman John Duncan(TN), who votes right along with RP in almost all circumstances, espouses our "RP-style" principles, voted against the Iraq war, wants a Fed audit, opposed all the bailouts, promotes limited gov't, etc, etc.
And he has virtually zero visibility on a national scale.
He just quietly goes about representing our district in a very RP-like way, without fanfare.
He walks the walk, but doesn't seek fame.
He has made very few votes that I had any disagreement with. Maybe not 100% perfect, but very very close.

This is a good congressman, and I know that RP recognizes what John Duncan is doing on the hill.
We need to get more people like that up there, and it looks as if we might get a few this time around.

Ron Paul may be the last relevant Republican politician

in a party fast becoming irrelevant. There's a lot of anger now, but what difference does it make if another "Bush" or "McCain" is elected in 2012 or if the same party hacks defeat Democrats in 2010?
Maybe we've seen this "movie" before. In 1964 there was a battle between the Goldwater Wing and the Rockefeller Wing (The Bush Family was part of it). The Goldwater Wing defeated the Fatcat, country club, Wall Street, Eastern Establishment Crowd. The conservatives won.
Unless conservatives are willing to compete against the same opportunists nothing good will happen. Bush and the Neo-Cons destroyed the party. Forget the nonsense of party loyalty to those who destroyed the party. How loyal were they?
When conservatives let George Bush (either) call himself a conservative, it was over for conservatives. Time to engage, win the party battle, and then matter.

I think DeMint deserves an honorable mention as he has fought very hard to get the Audit the Fed bill into the Senate.

This article gives me hope

for the future.

The article mentions 8 congressional allies to liberty that won seats
Who are they?

If the GOP got behind him

their problems would be over. They could have taken the last election in fact. We know by now the powers that be are behind both parties. It is so in your face.
It is sad.

I guess that makes me...

Wow. This just keeps getting better all the time. Plant a seed and watch it grow.

Best article on Ron Paul!!

* This is an excellent piece!
I'm glad also to see an acknowledgement that the Ron Paul Boston tea party and grassroots was given credit as being the first and was way before the astroturfers locked onto it!

Good damn article!

Thomas Jefferson once said, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."

Well, I guess he called that one.

Dr. Paul has been the ONLY relevant Republican in 30 years.

Trash the rest, he is the best!

"highly motivated... mostly young primary voters he organized"

1st off... he really didn't organize us (he did inspire us)...
2nd... we are mostly young because most of his positions require an open mind that is not set in stone on a particular belief system... and we are motivated because he is so obviously right on the issues... just try him.
3rd... this article gives a shoutout to the DP... citing our 'political flowering'.
4th... gives us the credit for the formation of the original "tea parties"
5th... points out that we are just as quick to criticize Rs as we are Ds...
6th... gives a nice shoutout to Rand, Schiff, and Kokesh... but Harris is snubbed...

speaking of Harris...

Has anyone seen him lately? I'm a little worried. Admittedly I'm not going out of my way to check up on him, but I haven't heard or seen anything about him since like June. Is he still running? I wish him the best whatever the case may be but I hope to hear more from him soon.

He has a liberty bell money bomb going. $25,000 is the goal...

The total is just under 21,000 this far. It would be great to see that amount doubled. Haven't heard to much more the past five or six days.
Any individual running for office towards fighting for freedom and like minded to the constitution as we are needs our support.
Grassroots has been leading the charge this past year. Let's keep up the good work and support.
FYI ! Don't forget to watch for gun law bills trying to sneak under the radar in Washington.

bump for freedom*))

this article brought a big smile to my face - Thank you for posting.

"Is Ron Paul the last relevant Republican in Washington? "

Wow, what a slap in the face of the establish ment Republicans.

blimp :)

Not only is he the ONLY relevant POLITICIAN -- He should be

the last -- Or at the very most replaced with "one" person.

We are spinning our wheels with this ballot box theory.

Ballot Box Theory: Place name and candidate you wish to abdicate your authority to (check) -- Go home and "hope" he/she fights to give you back the liberty you just abdicated.

No we have a battle to fight and need to focus 100% on that.

When election time comes we make sure we have ONE RP candidate in office -- if we do, we give him/her some money for re-election and vote for the one person.

No thoughts -- No consternation

The "ones" job is to educate about what we are doing at the street level, which is -- COUNTER-ECONOMICS

Nice article!

IDEAL article, practically,
