This reminds me of the Spanish Inquisistion.
Didn't they show the rack to some of those who got out of line, like Galileo, as a means to impress upon them the possibility of torture. In Galileo's case it had the desired effect and he recanted his theory about the earth orbiting the sun.
I find people peacefully showing up with weapons sort of a veiled warning.
It seems clear to me we really are moving toward revolution. It took years for the 1776 revolution to develop. There are repeats of patterns in history, and it looks to me like we are in the same position as our Founding Fathers were leading up to the outbreak of violence. Are not revolutions the spawn of economic pain, taxes being one of the significant forms of that pain?
Mix all the right ingredients and flour, milk, butter, and eggs turn into cake under sufficient temperature. We have the ingredients for revolution. Economic pain is increasing, and likely we are just at the beginning of a huge economic contraction; we have rulers who live like kings while the citizens suffer; we have an economic system that is rigged against the average person in favor of those with privilege; the general population is well armed; we have the means to communicate and circulate ideas (at least for now); and we have the uncompromising baby boom generation.
There is more significance to people taking arms to display at these protest than just some gun owner wanting to exercise his 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Our Constitutional Rights are not unless they are exercised ... what this outstanding black gentleman did is a powerful statement and it needs to start happening not just with the 2nd amendment but all of them.

Cliff's notes: They coordinated with Phoenix PD the night before what they were going to do and they were escorted the whole time. The gentleman "Chris B." volunteered to OC his AR-15 and made sure to dress nicely. His magazine was inserted in the rifle but contained no ammunition.
If you observe his Glock holstered on his left hip you can tell he is a left-handed shooter which means his rifle was slung on his weak side. It also was slung muzzle down to convey a non-threatening posture. I'm going to assume it remained slung the entire time.
You can also assume Secret Service snipers had a bead on him the whole time...and he probably knew it.
You may agree or disagree but this gentleman and his friends have big brass balls to do this. They asserted their Liberty in a peaceful manner and no one got hurt. Too many times we sit at our keyboards and bitch but these guys DID SOMETHING! Look to see more of this at future TEA PARTIES and rallies. And you know what? IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!

Let me elaborate on my position here.
For what its worth
I am a strong advocate of Liberty, The Campaign for Liberty, The Constitution, The Bill of Rights, the Daily Paul and specifically hold dear 2nd amendment. I know many of you think this guy was doing a good thing but step back for a minute and think how ridiculous this is.
It is everyones' right and duty to carry a gun but this one was not thought out very well. What this guy did was bring a negative connotation to the argument. I mean, I am used to seeing a side arm on people but usually don't see people roaming the streets with a bush gun. (In Puebla Mexico maybe) I think it draws attention we don't want. Ron Paul supporters have already been labeled as a malitia or a threat via domestic terrorism. So what does this guy do....Plays right into the hands of the "I told you so" crowd. I really don't think it helps anything. It's his right but he is foolish.
It's all great until John Hinkly the 2nd emerges from the crowd.then what? Because thats what's coming next. You think we will have gun rights then? Shit, we may actually have to use them at that point...
Come on, why walk around with a high powered rifle on your back unless your ready for a war...What are we Hezbollah? Maybe that's what some of you want and revel in the idea of a bloody revolution.....
For me, no thanks....I don't think it needs to come to that, nor would I revel in the idea. Be rational, it's bad out there yes but why escalate it. Keep this in perspective our backs are not against the wall we still have a growing influence in the country (and growing daily). Do you see Ron Paul advocating this? He would say it's his right but do you see him advocating this? How about Peter Schiff, wheres his short stock rifle? How about Rand, why doesn't he lock and load?????
Because, they have a message of hope!
There is a time and a place for these weapons, just not here and not now. That must be reserved for when it is really bad out there and you know what I mean.

I appreciate your point of but I believe your off on a few points.
The type of gun doesn't change the argument. A right to bear arms is a right to bear arms.
Second we don't do things because a dear leader tells us to. Ron Paul and Peter Schiff advocate liberty, rights, and free market. That includes letting people use their own judgment. Ron Paul even defended Kosteric a few days ago on this issue on the Ed show.
Here's where I agree with you. I believe the point has been proven. The right to open carry even in relatively extreme circumstances such as a peaceful yet contentious protest, with an assault weapon and with the president in attendance has been acknowledged and upheld despite strong public sentiment against it. Good. Perhaps we should consider hanging up the holsters on this for now.
Why?
Because anymore of this and we are ripe to be easily set up for a false flag attack. All it takes is one and bam, all the gun rights you've been fighting to protect goes out the window. I commend those brave patriots who put themselves in danger to open carry at these events, that took guts many of us including myself would only dream of. That said I would urge you and others not to continue and maybe even put out a statement to that effect so that we and the rest of the nation knows that if anyone does try something stupid it wasn't us and was most likely an agent provocateur. These demonstrations were inspiring but let's continue to choose our battles wisely. Just my thoughts, thanks.

I don't know if everyone here gets it. Finally, people *are* beginning to wake up. Now that the creeping Marxist giant is threatening to visit us in our doctor's office, even at the end of our lives, people get it. The anger at these town hall meetings is real...and I believe it isn't an accident that the elderly, the people most directly affected by HR 3200 if it is passed, are the angriest. They correctly perceive that they are in a fight for their lives.
But I suspect there are a lot of younger folks here, ones for whom the idea of how they will eventually die is still but a theoretical question. Don't mire yourselves in strategic questions of whether it is a good idea to bring weapons to a meeting like this. There are already bills out there meant to specifically restrict the purchase of weapons by rightwing activists such as ourselves...HR 2159, for example, which would deny the purchase of firearms by suspected "terrorists" as defined by various FBI databases. So yes, keep an eye on that bill, because there will be some who will use this incident as an excuse to cosponsor.
My point is that we *already* have a government that is quite willing to violate our civil liberties through the Patriot Act and gun control, and now is going to exercise control over our bodies through the Healthcare Bill. You want to release a statement to pacify a government like this? How far did we get with the Olive Branch Petition?

All I'm saying is that...
at this point is is clear that our government is akin to a steroid mad muscle machine. Preparing and exposing our intent to defend our rights is not an improper action. We are looking for ways to avoid the horns of this government bull and when people show up to do just that we need to recognize the effort and praise the determination. We cannot control all of the spin that will be placed on this by the media, but we do not need to. We need to get people thinking, talking over their dinner table, with their spouses and children. We need the sheeple to wake of their own accord, and they are. We will always have to fight the waves of false propaganda tossed against Liberty and freedom by big government, but this coverage will spur many to talk. We have to have faith in American ideals, in American people, in the heart of men to decide that they want the freedom they see in that newscoverage, despite all the spin. Glazed eyes will blink, dull minds will sharpen, and tied tongues will wiggle free as we exercise our Liberty. Why should we ever see our duty to reign in the government as a detriment to Liberty in this nation?
