US Soldiers Will Deploy to Columbia

Some American troops will soon find themselves stationed at military bases scattered across the South American nation of Colombia with a mission to use advanced Predator drone technology to aid in fighting the drug trade and to combat terrorism, according to published reports Saturday.

But Colombia’s neighbors certainly do not see it that way.

In Venezuela, officials bristled. President Hugo Chavez warned, “the winds of war [are] beginning to blow.”

Chavez has already accused Colombian troops of making an incursion over the border and regional tensions are running high. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa also took exception, saying the United States would target Colombia’s neighbors if the deal is finalized.

“This agreement reaffirms the commitment of both parties in the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism,” Colombia’s foreign ministry said in a statement Friday.

Officials here said the two countries agreed the text of an agreement, which now has to be reviewed by government agencies in Bogota and Washington before getting a final signature.

The controversial deal would permit the US military to operate surveillance aircraft from seven bases to track drug-running boats in the Pacific Ocean.

Probably just laying more groundwork for a war

with Venezuela. Isn't that what Aaron Russo said Nick Rockefeller told him? War over oil with Venezuela? I thought it was ridiculous when I first saw the video, considering the the state of affairs in the U.S.....but with all the activity in South America, I don't think I'd be surprised if what he said actually comes to fruition.

Speaking of soldiers ...

I saw six of them in Burbank, CA just walking down the street in FULL UNIFORM! They were Army, and were wearing gray-colored camos w/patches, combat boots and hats; and their pants were tucked into their boots.. They were just strolling near a Metro Link station. I have NEVER seen Army dressed like that in town just strolling. It gave me the creeps! They didn't appear to have any weapons on them that were visible.

Here we go!! Just this weekend in L. A., CA, you've got people standing in line for free medical/dental care and now we've got Army. Talk about getting the people brainwashed into not questioning it and allowing it to become a way of life. It's flagrant and frightening! I made calls and made sure that everyone in front or behind me anywhere within earshot today heard about it in a very cool, calm and as-a-matter of fact way to get a small conversation going to make them aware and questioning, "Why are soldiers in full uniform like that walking around in public? I thought it was against posse comitatus." Then I went on to explain what that means. I caught some attention and then some just didn't care, but I hope that got the ball rolling w/some of them.

I work at a small University in VA

Last week there were guys patrolling the campus in that same camo, carrying M-16s (one guy had an MP-5). They were walking in formation, on the sidewalk between the residential halls, patrolling with full-auto assault rifles! I recognized one of the guys as a LT with the campus police, one guy had a badge on his belt, and I don't know who other 6 or 8 guys were. I know all the campus police, but the only one I recognized was the LT.

It's just there is more of them.

And, therein witness the build up within our borders. It's the mentality of the security guards with a badge and those numbers are increasing in the interiour lands and parks too. All to protect the resources that the monarchy or UN or what ever that bothers me more than the guys in grey. Guys in grey do things open and in mass. I don't like localized punk terrorist with a badge.
Like, the guys in grey stop to get gas, meet friends, they are going to and from work, and perhaps even encouraged to wear their uniform in public, for public relations . . . . because we'll be seeing more of this with Agenda 21 coming thru like a frieght train.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

They did this back in the 70's. Let's decriminalize this time!

And then mix it up, guns and all. Then, and only then, would true criminaltiy surface. (I mean, you don't have to resort to guns to figure decriminalization into the culture, it takes time anyway.
(so mere possesion is not the crime)
There is so much shit going on with this planet, war over what? Drugs?
End the war on drugs, please, this time, right now.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

"The State Department appears to be clueless.." Indeed!

Excerpt:

The bases also will lock in a U.S. military presence well beyond President Obama's tenure to address issues that should be addressed with diplomacy, negotiation, economic development, and drug treatment. Rather than responding to a specific and justified military mission, these bases represent a presence in search of a mission.

It is not credible that U.S. military activities will be restricted to Colombian territory. First of all, U.S. and Colombian drug warriors have been saying for years that narco-trafficking is an international threat that must be met through international operations. So it's no surprise the Pentagon has its eye on Colombia's Palanquero air base, with its capacity for C-17s that can reach half of South America.

Second, President Obama has maintained the doctrine of transnational attacks against groups the United States designates as terrorist, including in Ecuador. Obama supported the March 2008 Colombian attack over the border—and sponsored U.S. attacks in Pakistan, leading to many civilian deaths.

Third, President Uribe launched his defense of the base agreement by announcing what he said was new evidence that officials from Venezuela and Ecuador were aiding the FARC. Leaders of those countries dispute the evidence, but even if it is true, escalating the U.S. military presence on bases in Colombia will hardly resolve the conflict. It will instead further polarize it.

Latin American leaders have rejected this statement as a justification for the bases. Brazil's foreign minister Celso Amorim said that "many weapons get to the FARC, just as they get to the favelas of Río de Janeiro. That announcement is no more than a small episode, compared with the United States bases."

The State Department appears to be clueless about why regional leaders would be so worried. Asked whether it was time for Obama to talk with hemispheric leaders about U.S. intentions, State Department spokesman Robert Wood said blandly, "We have a positive plan for the hemisphere … We talk to leaders all the time." But are they listening?

OMG~ This is insane!!

* The operations of U.S. military forces inside Colombian territory are formally based on two claims with equally poisonous implications: that the biggest problems of Colombia are drug trafficking and guerrillas, and that U.S. and Colombian military cooperation is the best way to address these problems.

The largest number of killings of civilians each year in Colombia is not committed by the guerrillas, but by the army and paramilitary groups, according to the Jesuit-run Center for Research and Grassroots Education (CINEP). A large majority of Colombia's 4.7 million internally displaced people were forced from their homes by paramilitary violence, with more than 11 million acres of land violently stolen. The increased U.S. military presence won't contribute anything to returning those lands to their rightful owners, nor to holding the Colombian Army accountable for more than 1,700 civilian killings committed since 2002.

Liberty: We are not the "good guys" anymore.

I need to get that Obama/Bush T-shirt.
There is no difference between them or the parties. Our country has been taken over. The enemy from without has become the enemy from within. Waking up the sheeple is the only way, a very frustrating endeavor.

This hits a nerve with me

I remember when it first dawned on me that we're not the good guys anymore. It was that exact expression too. Makes me feel sick.

Exactly! Absolutely, and even deeper. Insidious bastards.

More chaos, murder and destruction!

The insane march to world dominion continues under Obama . I am so sick of all this !

I read about this

Ecuador is NOT happy about this at all. I mean, really. How ludicrous! They set up more bases when we can't afford it and they claim it is to monitor drug traffic??? How stupid are we.

* as well as others are not real happy about this! This is not good...US soldiers at 7 bases, weapons! I'm sure we will put in mercenaries and private contractors too for these drug/terror wars ...this will get real ugly! Apparently Wars on Terror now equate to Wars on Drugs.( opium in Afghanistan)
