The Silence is Deafening

0 votes

For the eight years George W. Bush was in the White House, we saw liberals protesting the war in Iraq, progressives decrying America's escalating involvement in Afghanistan, and "enlightened" types from the Bay Area to Brooklyn questioning our commitment to set the world right by force of arms.

But not anymore.

When it comes to the vitally important question of war and peace, the silence coming from these quarters is deafening – and you can be sure that the Obama administration is noting that silence and acting accordingly.

They're sending more troops to Afghanistan, threatening to invade Pakistan, and setting up Iran for attack, and many on the Left are missing in action. Will they wake up in time to mount an effective movement against this administration's war plans? Well, we don't have time to wait for that: the situation is fluid and moving fast – and we need to get this fundraising campaign moving, just so we can continue our work. We need you to step up to the plate.

Don't let the crimes of the American empire be enveloped in silence any longer. Raise your voice – and help us raise the money we need to keep going.

The fair-weather friends of peace have fallen by the wayside, and some are even jumping on board Obama's war-wagon, hailing the "good war" in Afghanistan as a crusade against "terrorism." Yet it is the U.S. government that is dropping bombs on civilians, destabilizing Pakistan, and threatening a wider conflict.

There's nothing liberal, not to mention progressive, about that – except that the situation's getting progressively worse.

Stand up for true liberal and progressive values.

if you insist on beliveing in THEIR so called 2 parties

and the controlled media you will be disappointed.

Antiwar is a controlled site.

The opposition is controlled.

Once you get comfortable with this concept...you will see through the lies to the truth.

Obama was selected when he was at Harvard and trained by Brezinski.

Please lose the politicians...they have very little to do with what is going on.

Unify

If there was one positive thing about

the Obama election, some of us, wrongly, thought American foreign policy would be saner. But Obama is just a continuation of Bush.
The Democrat Left didn't vote to end the wars, but to express their nobility by putting a man of color in the White House.
During the Vietnam War as long as the American dead were country boys, inner-city blacks, Hispanics, or blue-collar city whites, the Left was marginally concerned. Only after college students were no longer deferred did liberal upper classes discover their moral opposition to death on the battlefield. Only when their butts were on the line did massive anti-war demonstrations begin.
The Left today isn't all that concerned, but institute a draft and watch the marches begin and the hell raised. The Left is anti-war only when there isn't a higher priority to be filled.
Whatever interests are being served in Afghanistan and Iraq, they aren't those of the average American.
There are elections in Afghanistan where the majority Pashtun (Taliban) are barred. The elections are fixed.
It's all a bloody farce.

I predicted this

I knew when Obama started to show his true colors as a warmonger, his followers would first ignore it and then come up with excuses for it rather than call him on it. In the meantime, the republican party will once again become the party of peace, and it's popularity will rise as a result, but when it comes down to it, there really isn't any difference between the presidents of either party.

This is a result of the one party system..

And I have stated it here hundreds of times; partisanship is the divider that they continue to use to conquer us. It is amazing at all of the liberal lip service about protests and things of this nature when it was a mere year ago that the same protests were occurring against Bush.

Partisanship separates us for no good reason, other than the powers that be to use it to push or pull policy. The funny thing is that the Liberals claim superior intellect, but look at them now and how stupid their reaction to the same old same old. There is no intelligent argument being made against Obama while he carries out the Bush policies of old, and the elite are loving it too.

There is no better demonstration of a nation that is dumbed down, watch as they put Pelosi back into office after lying to her constituents and saying she would stop the wars, prosecute Bush, among other failures or lies.

The Liberals are the evil/equal alter egos of the far right, and as foolish as well. The question is how do you change the minds of 120 million that have their minds set as to what is good for the country? Hillary has been caught on tape committing election fund raising fraud, yet no one seems to mind. The Downing Street memos are out and public knowledge and show Bush led our troops into Iraq specifically undermining the American people through lies and propaganda, yet there are still die hard Bush supporters.

The question we must answer is how to break the partisanship barriers and lead this nation into a new era? How do you take a large group of the ignorant masses that think it is o.k. for government to spend their blood and sweat doing things that are illegal at best? The thing that amazes me the most is that the media, left, and right label us the crazy ones, which is justifiable in Washington since we are the only group that uses common sense and logic to attempt to solve issues instead of allowing them to fester, and continue failed, expensive policies around the globe.

The end all blame game will occur with the collapse of the dollar, and both side will be pitted against the other as always with no solutions other than letting the perpetrators "solve" the problem for us all. If ignorance is bliss the left and right are blisters on the heels of the government foot that rests on our necks.

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

Losing the Plot – Britain’s losses in Afghanistan
by Lesley Docksey

Can one even begin to picture it? Our Army, so full of ‘brave heroes’ and ‘first-rate soldiers’, so ‘fully supported’ (and kitted out) by the MoD, reduced to this – a convoy of not quite well enough armoured vehicles crawling across the Afghan landscape at 4 mph, preceded by a walking man with a red flag (sorry, mine sweeper), hopefully watched over by some small protective haystacks concealing the army’s best sharpshooters. They also, presumably, have at times to move at 4 mph. Who volunteers to walk in front of the convoy like this? Or will the unlucky man have been ‘volunteered’ because, being a little overweight, it was thought some extra exercise was called for? How else find someone willing to be such a sitting duck? After all, not all the moveable vegetation in Helmand will be British.

Truly, while Afghanistan weeps over its thousands of dead, the Taliban must be crying with laughter.

One of the biggest shocks of my life

was seeing how the Left has become pro-War under Obama. "We can't go killing innocent people because silly old Bush says so, but if Obama says we must, we must." Unbelievable.

Now the blood's on THEIR hands.

I saw a comment...

over at democraticunderground.com a few weeks ago that summed up this argument the best I've seen so far. The poster wrote, "All this war stuff is so...last year."

There you go. The Obamabots have spoken.

Obama ‘Blasts Defense Establishment’ While Touting War

Afghanistan War 'Won't Be Quick or Easy,' But Will Continue
by Jason Ditz, August 17, 2009

Speaking today to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, President Barack Obama publicly chastized Congress for the ‘exotic projects’ it had added into the defense budget, and threatened to veto the billl. He also criticized what he called a “defense establishment that has yet to fully adapt to the post-Cold War world.”

His target of choice was the now $13 billion program to build him a presidential helicopter with an onboard kitchen. President Obama promised that if the United States is under a nuclear attack he won’t be preparing any meals in the helicopter.

At the same time, Obama touted the war in Afghanistan, which he insisted was not only necessary but the cornerstone of defending the American public. He insisted that continuing the now eight year long military occupation was necessary to stop future 9/11-style attacks.

Domestic support for the Afghan war has been plummeting in recent months, and Obama’s own popularity is beginning to sag with it. As with President Bush before him, however, Obama seems unwilling to back off his hawkish position, and the war shows no signs of ending.

Liberals and "progressives"

by and large, only use things like that as leverages to ply public opinion that might propel them into power positions.

There is no "principle" in the liberal/socialist/progressive dogma.
The order of the day is "The ends justify the means", and whatever might work to achieve power is undertaken.

The only "principle" they have is the over-riding urge to get into positions of power to control the public. Any way to get there, will do.

Bump

That's not necessarily so, T.
Some of us think and speak for ourselves. Although I've always felt that patience is a virtue, I must admit that mine is also wearing thin on the war issue.

ameriana, if your patience is wearing thin, think how thinly

the patience of the people under Obama's bombs must be wearing. Could you possibly put your attention on the victims instead of your party politics?

btw, on your comment below: in case you somehow missed it, this site is NOT a Republican site. Why you'd bring up neo con attitudes here is puzzling to say the least, since libertarians are the only effective opposition to both Republican and Democrat hawks and domestic aggressors.

I do congratulate you for at least having the courage to come here and confront people who challenge your views; but I think you didn't bring an open mind, so you're not learning as fast as you could.

FYI, I have ALWAYS been against the wars! Especially when Bush declared his own private war WITHOUT approval of Congress!
What I'm saying is that my patience is wearing thin NOW with Obama. I had hoped that he would make an attempt to bring our troops home by now.
Don't you dare EVER compare me with that warmongering oilman Bush, who is the abomination of all that is decent and right.

As opposed to the warmongering snake oil

salesman you're only beginning to lose patience with? Obama's war hawk views were fully expressed during his campaign and his previous political career. You O-supporters just closed your ears and eyes to his similarity to Bush and the non-choice between McCain & Obama.

I will say it yet again, for you with the thick skull:

In order for a strong Libertarian party to develop, those of us who are coming in from either the right or the left must try to work together (as one), or nothing will ever be accomplished between us but ENDLESS, FUTILE BICKERING.

BTW, T

The same dogmatic behavior could be said about the Conservatives, in their own way. For example, I recently watched an old black and white movie (well over 50 years old), and the patriarch of the family was a well-to-do Republican who believed that the Democrats' issue to "Save the Rainforest" was poppycock! Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same! But seriously, I think the bottom line here is that the two party system's purpose is to find "balance". Maybe that balance will someday be found in the Libertarian party.

Save the Rainforest?

Wasn't that like the 1970's Democrat issue about preventing the "Coming Ice Age"?
Then there was the hip liberal scientist Erlich who would go on the Johnny Carson Show telling us by the year 2000 billions would be starving.
It's always some dire prediction by the Democrats. Haven't they heard the story about the little boy who cried wolf.

Ha ha ha!

That was the Repofflican party that cried wolf in the case of the ice age scare. Lol!!
I think so, anyway. Hold on..
I'll go look it up.

Evidently the movement

started way before the 70's, judging from the age of this particular movie, which was made at the beginning of the television era, well over 50 years ago.
