I am planning to buy a camcorder in the near future. My budget is around $300. I think I want the hard disk recording format but I'm open to suggestions. Can anyone recommend one?

On the HV30 there is
On the HV30 there is actually a 3rd party that makes one for 50 bucks. However, the HV30 is too pricey for what the original poster was budgeting so i guess it's a moot point :(
Thanks

If you can save up a bit
If you can save up a bit more money you can get the Canon HV30. It uses mini-tape which has wider support in the video editing apps. It's also able to shoot in HD up to 1080i. You can get cheaper version HD cams like the Flip ones but not sure of their quality.

This 2nd video was shot with an hv20 with post processing done in after effects. Think he used a Rode shotgun mic for the audio in certain shots and just the onboard audio in others.
As for audio it depends. Rode makes some pretty good audio equipment. I just purchased one of the Rode stereo mics for my HV30 after scouring over quite a few reviews on it.
Anything a little less pricey?
The HV 30 is too pricey. Is there anything you can recommend that's a little cheaper?
And I'd like to hear ideas for the best video
and audio very small equipment to carry to rallies or just daily carrying.
