No one in the mainstream media grasps the message, "Use your rights or you will lose them", which I feel is the real statement these gun owners are trying to convey. My sense is that it's not a message tied to health care as the media portrays it, or merely about gun rights. It's about all our inalienable rights being ignored. The guns just did a better job of attracting attention than our letters, phone calls, speeches and marches. Since this practice may be increasing at protests, why don't you all leave some comments over there? Personally, I believe re-acquiring our basic rights far outweighs the importance healthcare.
to see John Stewart poking fun at these people who are only exercising their 2nd Amendment right. I like his show and his input, but it's too bad that he's painting this whole thing in a bad light by depicting these protesters as uneducated alcoholics. Not to mention that he has a big influence on the younger people.
People are blowing these events where people are legally carrying guns way out of proportion. It shouldn't make people feel scared, but instead make them feel safe. But the sheep are so entranced by the media's propaganda that it causes them to freak out when someone is exercising their 2nd amendment right. What's the difference with a person legally carrying a gun in his/her travels and then takes it to protest a Town Hall meeting? Why do people automatically assume that person will definitely try to use their gun on the President? This is only another example of the MSM trying to play us against each other.

Do you folks really think this is funny?
Are you really speaking out against patriots open carrying at these events?
Ya'll must be drinking that fluoridated water. While I choose to be discrete about my ownership of firearms. I'm beginning to grow disgusted with how passive and docile we are in general. Go ahead, call me an "agent provocateur", but I think this is beautiful, its about time that American's have the balls to step up and give the government a sneak peak at what awaits if they continue to tread on us.
First, full disclosure - I like the Daily Show and Colbert because I think it is sophisticated satire. Second, they were two of the best interviews during the campaign.
However, this is exactly the reason why I didn't participate in the RNC promoted Tea Parties and why we need to be careful of these town hall meetings with the Republican morons yelling about stuff they are told to yell about, forgetting that they supported the neocons for a couple decades. They look crazy and devoid of reason - and now so do we. My own friends are asking me if it is "my" people yelling and threatening violence on the president.
I'm not saying we shouldn't attend or protest outside. We absolutely shouldn't do nothing. But, if Ron Paul has shown me anything, it is that ony by having superior knowledge and being awake can we push the Freedom Movement into all political parties and society as a whole. We can ask questions in the meetings and speak loud and confident without throwing out the "socialism" words (as if the Bush administration had a different philosophy). We are the ones who know there is no difference between the two parties, or two branches of the polit bureau.
I think a lot of the town hall stuff is devised by the RNC/DNC/Media complex and people are being played like fiddles. We have the Ministry of Homeland Security calling us dangerous and possible terrorists - and now they have their public majority to agree. Crazy people yelling at members of Congress and holding signs saying "Death to Obama" (I'm pretty sure that guy was a plant, but nonetheless was on the news wasn't he?) - perfect!
I have no problem with the gun thing - I'm just worried that it was a little too convenient that the first guy on the news that did this said he "voted for Ron Paul". How about that?...Just like the SPLC warned us about.
I say we get Ron Paul's book number one - support Rand and Schiff - make signs and protest - ask provocative questions at the town halls - hold rallies - whatever we can. But, realize that the media can twist the minds of most Americans pretty easily.
Just my two cents. Been gone for a while - just extremely busy at work the last few months and the anti-Obama stuff turned me off for a while. But, it's good to be back. I look forward to catching up on you crazy liberty-lovers.

i agree with the point of the bit. Yeah its our freedom to carry guns around, but its really kind've stupid to be carrying an assault rifle to a political rally with the president nearby.

Constitution. We have been seduced out of real security by people who believe the world is a safer place today than one hundred years ago and it is not. At these events the police or security have shown little or no regard for protesters safety and have been shown to be more provocative than anything else. A friend once told me that when you are viewed as an equal, only then can a reasonable debate occur. Force only works on people weaker than you. I think this sent a clear message to the powers that be, we will not be pushed around. So lets talk.

there is a fact-based reality that the American federal government is out of control and has long since jumped way off its rule of law tracks as laid down by the Constitution. In such a situation, the day to day reality is rule by a combination of hypnosis and brute force.
This is factual reality, not some spell. Folks who don't see the facts are the ones under a spell.

Unless you've been exploring the true freedom of a paleolithic lifestyle, just about everything you know, everything you think, everything you feel, every opinion you have, every belief, is strongly influenced by cultural presentations...church, school, TV, radio, movies, and the internet.
Consider this:
Among all the things that you know, what is the proportion of the things you know from direct experience versus the things you know from some cultural presentation?

Over the years there have been several occasions where I have been at an event which has been covered by the press or worked at an establishment which received press coverage.
When you watch or read the story in the press relating an event in which you were personally involved it becomes obvious that the press only gets half of its "facts" right.
When I realized this I began to doubt every story I'd see.

Facts of reality are facts of reality.
If anything, your post proves my point, there is a vast illusion set up by people who care not for observing objective fact.
The fact of the matter is that long ago the American federal government jumped far off track of its Constitutional limitations and, therefore, the system is based not on a rule of law, but on a vast popular hypnosis along with rule by brute force.
Do you disagree with this being the fact of the matter? Or is this just some framing based on cultural frameworks?
Do you agree that there is something out there called objective reality?
If you disagree that there is an objective, fact-based reality, what is the use of even trying to discuss? At that point, you have exited the realm of being a rational human being.
