Obama announces plan for FREE LEMONADE!!

The government has just mandated that citizens of the united states have a right to lemonade when they are thirsty. In order to do this, they have implemented a lemonade tax of .5% VAT tax that will give the government the needed funds to perform this, estimating the average amount of lemonade each citizen consumes at 1 lemonade a day, which will cost on average 25 cents. They don’t want to “take over” the lemonade business, so all you have to do is go to the lemonade stand, and the stand keeps track of how much lemonade it sells and then sends the bill to the government where they will be reimbursed.
Woohoo..first day of implementation, at about 3 o’clock, the nation is out of lemonade. Each citizen has drank about 9 lemonades and the stores are dry. So, the government now puts in the mandate that only thirsty people, who will be judged by a government employee to be stationed at every lemonade stand, will be allowed to enjoy the delicious lemonade. Also, the new consumption after it has settled down after the initial implementation, is now at 2 lemonades a day, still at the same cost. To pay for the additional employees and lemonades, the VAT tax is doubled (a move that they say is still saving us money because we would have spent that money on lemonade anyway).
However, lemonade stands are starting to get smart. Several lemonade stands have doubled the price of all lemonades, from the mix to the expensive ready-to-drink stuff. Now the government is again going broke because lemonade stands are taking in all of these excess profits. Greed they say is the problem, and the government sets the price of lemonade at 25 cents for every 16 ounces. Now with price set, all of the manufacturers of the expensive ready-to-drink lemonade go out of business because lemonade stands can no longer pay them for their product if they can only sell it at 25 cents for 16 ounces. Soon there is only one kind of lemonade brand, the cheapest so that grocery stores can make as much of a profit as they can.
After a while, people get angry that they can no longer have good lemonade. So the government forces the lemonade stands to buy all kinds of lemonade. This puts many lemonade stands out of business. In fact, the rate at which people enter the lemonade business is slowly declining, and only the very large lemonade stands that order in bulk and are friends with the government are able to stay in business. More people are realizing that the profits are fixed now, and low. Soon there is a shortage of lemonade stands and people begin to get angry.
The government however now blames the owners of lemonade stands for being too greedy and curbing production in order to increase prices and run smaller competitors out of business. The government first fixes their wages and profits, but after more people leave the industry, the government takes over full control of the lemonade stands, saying that they cannot allow them to fail. With the government now owning lemonade stands and even less of them around, more strict rules are now applied to how thirsty one must be to get the lemonade. The government has also made it illegal to buy lemonade on your own, saying that it is depleting the supply of lemonade available for the thirsty, and that if you were really thirsty, you would get some. There are long lines to get checked to see if you are thirsty. The VAT tax to pay for lemonade has been doubled again and is now at 4%, and consumption per citizen is even lower and is now down to .5 lemonades a day because of strict controls.
Now thirsty people really want lemonade. The government now says that the problem is in our lifestyle, and makes exercising illegal because it makes you thirsty. They also put a huge tax on salt. With people not as thirsty, we won’t have to serve as many people. The service by the way is horrible, as many people have to wait hours just to get a drink..think DMV for lemonade.

With all of this happening now, don’t you think we might want to say lemonade is not a right?

Great post!

I've seen analogies like this one before, but this is perfectly analogous to our current situation. Good job!

Wow! This sounds a lot like Mike's snowball analogy!

Maybe we could pull the two together somehow and make lemonade snowballs.. a refreshing summer treat, sure to please those with discriminating taste!

would have summed it up like this

Instead of using the toilet now Obama and his administration are now using cups and handing it out as free lemonade.

Start getting freedom today by dumping Federal Reserve Notes, Stocks, Banks and anything made outside the USA. Buy precious metals, real estate, businesses, food and guns and get your business community to use local or sound currenc

I really enjoyed this

and really want some lemonade. What this needs is a part two on how everyone could afford lemonade without government interference. Look forward to seeing that.

Finally...

...someone has addressed the lemonade crisis.

Sure, you might disagree with the way Obama wants to handle this but you do agree that there is a crisis and lemonade reform is necessary, don't you?

Careful there Meistersinger. If you make waves...

...the ACORN folks might come by the busload to squeeze you out from getting your lemonade.

very nice analogy...
