Senate Republicans Plan Fundraiser for Rand Paul Opponent Trey Grayson

If there was any doubt who the Republican establishment in Washington favors in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race next year, it's waning.

Two dozen members of the Senate Republican caucus — including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee — will hold a $500-per-person fundraiser for Secretary of State Trey Grayson on Sept. 23 at the committee's headquarters in Washington.

Grayson's campaign manager, Nate Hodson, couldn't be reached for comment Tuesday.

David Adams, a spokesman for Rand Paul, a Bowling Green ophthalmologist who is Grayson's chief opponent in next year's Republican primary, said the fundraiser doesn't surprise him because it was clear the party's leadership was lining up behind Grayson.

“Rand Paul is not going to make any policy decision nor will he make any vote based on what makes him popular with the leadership of any party,” Adams said.

URGENT: looking for a DVD authoring guru...

At Rand's KY State Fair booth we've got a couple of Rand's Youtube speech videos looped together on a widescreen TV. It's so loud in there though that interested voters at the booth can't hear the TV so I got to thinking..."We need a DVD to pass out. just like the heady days of Ron's campaign in late 2007."

So I put the call out to the Liberty Movement: Is there someone with some mad DVD authoring skills who would be willing to donate some time to cull through Rand's Youtube videos and whip up a kick-@$$ DVD?

Ideally this could simply be a file that we could download and burn to DVD ourselves for distribution here in KY. Also a DVD Label file would be great as well. My idea was the Declaration of Independence in the background with a semi-profile shot of Rand on the left side, looking to the right with the title "Who is Rand Paul?"

Anyone willing to tackle the DVD?

I admire all of you who think we can run for office, vote for liberty-minded candidates and campaign for the likes of Rand. But the sad truth is, the system is broken and corrupt. Elections don't change anything, anymore. The machine wins, every time.
So, what to do? If we march in the streets to show our discontent, we get pepper-sprayed and handcuffed. If we speak out (like this response of mine), we get put on some government watch list. If someone were to suggest an armed coup' de tate, they're associated to some white-supremisist group and locked up or killed as "mentally unstable". If we say that "jews run Wall Street" or that Goldman Sachs is the root of our financial evil, the brainwashed start screaming "anti-semite!!".
So...how do we fix what's broken? Rand ain't got a chance...and even if he does win...nothing will get better. What can we do?

Trey is speaking in Paducah today. Supposedly, all 23 Republicans throwing this fundraiser all voted for the bailout, so I'm going to attend and if they have q&a I plan on asking him about this in front of everyone. "Is it any coincidence that 23 Republicans who voted in favor of the bailout are wanting you to get elected over Rand Paul?" we'll see...

Paducah Update

Well, the meeting was less exciting than I hoped. Very small attendance, all Trey Grayson supporters (except me and my dad). It wasn't managed very well. The advertised location on Grayson's website was incorrect, so people had to drive/ask around to find out where the actual meeting was. It started about 45 minutes late, and he only spoke for about 15 minutes. Same ole jargon, catchy slogans and clever puns (i.e. "The Cap-n-Trade energy bill must be opposed and I will fight against it with every ounce of *energy* I have!")

At the conclusion of his speech his wife walked to his side and gave him a smooch, and then he preceded to mingle. There was never a chance for Q&A or any open forum. So, unfortunately, I wasn't able to ask my question (there was no need to ask him one-on-one, the point was to help educate his supporters). I believe it was Trey's way of controlling the event, whereas opening up to questions could easily put him in a tight corner.

All in all, putting aside his emotional-appeals and irrelevant stories, Trey said all the things we want to hear: bailouts gotta stop, no new taxes, lower taxes, cut spending, fix the deficit, etc. What needs to be pointed out is that Trey never addresses how he wants to do those things. He never actually gives solutions, he only addresses the problems. This is a ploy to get voters hooked, making them feel like he's got solutions without him ever actually giving any.

The most intriguing thing that happened was when one of Trey's campaign coordinators, named Colleen Chaney I believe, tried handing stickers to my dad and I. We politely refused, and my dad actually engaged in conversation with her. She was explaining how Trey is actually "happy" that he has Rand as an opponent, since Trey has never really had to compete with anyone previously (with his Secretary of State campaign). She told us she thought Trey was the better option and my dad asked, "Why? What makes Trey and Rand different?" And her answer killed me!! She said, "Well, Rand will definitely be more hardcore about choice, freedom of choice when it comes to issues, whereas Trey will be more about letting the government work through them collectively." My dad immediately said, "Well I'm voting for Rand then!" It was hilarious. Her own comments are in Rand's favor. It just shows how people today worship the government. Mr. Grayson may not want this lady working for him. :)

"Grayson and Paul are two of the five Republicans seeking the GOP nomination to replace Sen. Jim Bunning, who announced last month that he would retire after two terms because of his difficulty in raising money. He has accused McConnell and Cornyn of trying to force him from the race."

If Rand can get Bunning to endorse him in the race that will help his chances tremendously. What will it take to get Jim Bunning to endorse and campaign for Rand? Folks it may be time to start kissing Jim Bunning's booty and get him on board.

Even if people like a candidate, sometimes they are reluctant to vote for that person if they think they don't have a chance of winning.

With Rand being described as Grayson's chief opponent, along with his good poll strength and very respectable amount of money raised, hopefully people will see Rand is a real contender...someone who does have a chance of winning.

Put Principle Above Party - Appeal to conservative Americans...

A few strategies. First off, we need to engage the electorate in considerate and wise debate - when an article about Grayson, McConnell, or anything relating to this election is posted, weigh in and let others know what's going on. My guess is that there are plenty of disgruntled "conservatives" and "independents" that might jump on the Rand Wagon.

Many great arguments have been made by liberty-loving people on this news story alone to show that the tide in America is changing with all that's been happening.

I've been encouraging people to put PRINCIPLE above PARTY, and start voting for the man, the integrity, the history, the relationships of the individual. That fact that Grayson has got the blessings of those in power should rub MANY Americans the wrong way.

And yes, start putting money away for the next big Kruger-Rand party. We need to send a strong message to the GOP leadership that their days are numbered, if we have anything to say about it.

Ordinarily I would've said wait and see what Trey raised first.

But I'm inclined to think making it coincide with Trey's fundraiser and showing this to be a "People vs. Establishment" event might be good for a few reasons:

1) It shows confidence.

2) It will be harder for the press to ignore fundraising for Rand when it is on the same day as Trey's.

Imagine how much differently Ron Paul's record-breaking grassroots fundraisers would had to have been reported if they had coincided with fundraising days of the favored candidates.

3) The "People vs. Establishment" concept that would come through here is EXACTLY how people need to see this.

If Rand can get enough exposure, I don't think it will be hard for the people of Kentucky to realize that Rand Paul does not fall into the establishment category.
