2nd Grade: Tasers & Pepper Spray

0 votes

My 2nd grader and I were sitting down to do homework when he told me...

"Did you know if you don't listen to the police they can shoot you with pepper spray, to get you to follow their orders."

Beyond this entire story, I was curious if anyone remembers or can find out when the "Police" come to school to explain to the children they are there to help them.

Remember when the cop came to school?

How old were you, and or when do they come to meet your children at school.

My fiance and I thought 2nd grade was a little to early for him to get a crash course on freedom from this "peace officer"

Thank you for your time.
Please keep up the good fight!

I'm in my early 30's. I

I'm in my early 30's. I remember talking about the constitution EARLY in school, but also remember not finding the importance and not caring.

Sometime between 1st - 3rd grade we had a bunch of cops come to school several times. I really only remember the instance of them bringing dogs and drugs and showing the kids how the dogs could find drugs almost anywhere in the gym. I'm not sure why they came the other times.

I also remember a nurse coming to school in about 1st grade and using an inhaler type machine to suck up a cigarette and using a see-through plastic piece, could show the tar as it built up on the graphic of the lungs.

We did this IN CLASS. They lit up a real cigarette.

Maybe that's why I'm a chain smoker these days.....

While I do think they are too young at 2nd grade to learn about-

- tazers, firearms and how police can use them, I think it is the perfect age to teach about the Bill of Rights (and touch on the Constitution) however. My homeschooled daughter is learning about the Bill of Rights, the Constitution,Committees of Safety and other essential things. ;)

Second grade for me... back in 63

It was a real exciting day because we all got to go for rides in the police cars. The talk was about not taking candy from strangers, and reporting strangers to our parents, and the police. I learned that day that a policeman is my best friend, a person I can go to a trust with my life.

Sex education came at 6th Grade and made me feel really stupid because the program was so "scientific", I couldn't understand why anyone would want to go through any of it to have a baby. No one told me sex feels good and why people do it. The best part was at the end because we all got, what has to be to this day, the biggest cookies I ever saw as a treat.

Drug education came in 9th Grade and since my generation came after the beats and was inundated with a hippy culture, rock and roll, drugged celebrities... seemed the class knew more about the drugs than the policeman, who offered a display of samples, which the majority were pharmecueticals as I recall.

As to what your son said...

Seems to me that the police are using children as "the messenger" to parents in your area.

I would have to ask the teacher what my daughter was talking about. "What did he mean by telling me that, 'If I don't listen to the police I will be tazed'?" What is he talking about?"

Our area has a CopWatch, and after the video I saw here about "Largest Streetr Gang in America", I'm joining. This brutality has got to stop.

He is quite the little boy.

He is quite the little boy. I believe he told me this for a good reason. It means he understands our relationship very well. We all have our ways of raising our children, but I have been keen on his understanding of liberty.

Like all boys, he loves GI Joes and playing guns with his friends.

However, I am happy to see he understands the difference and can see the things I have taught him, unfold in the real world.

He and all the other little ones will be in the midst of it all very soon.

They grow up fast....Teach them well!

For the census to interrogate your children to make sure that no one at home simply told them how many there were in the household. I see these tactics clearly, but just wait till your little snot makers come home feeling guilty that you are not supporting the homeless and poor with your labor, it is coming down within the next 4 years, mark my word.

If only one of those 2nd graders challenged that officer

No cops came to my school..no teacher ask questions about home life..they saw marks on you..they didnt care...But when my daughter started school...they where everywhere...you couldnt walk down a hall without seeing them..Where we lived at the time..if they saw her out playing...(we had a fenced in yard and a dog that wouldnt let anyone near her...and she was 7 before I let her go out alone..with me watching through the window)..I noticed a cop pull up...he called her over...after a couple of minutes I walked out..he said have a nice day and drove off like a bat out of hell...She told me he was asking questions..like..does your mom or dad beat you with sticks..her answer was no they beat me at Candyland...Does your dad touch your parts..she said she told him only her chicken parts when he cooked on the grill...does your mom drink..She said...All the time..shes drinking tea now...

I remember that they came to our school around 6th grade or so

and told us where to buy drugs, what they were, how to use them, and how to have sex with everyone in the whole country. At that time there were probably 80-90 of us in the whole grade, of that probably 50 or so, had never even thought about such things. Good thing those folks came and told us about that stuff.

I don't remember any cops ever coming, but...

I don't remember any cops ever coming, but your post reminded me of 7th grade (public school) science class. The teacher taught us all about the different drugs, had samples of each locked behind glass in a wooden display box (from the local PD), told us how much they each cost on "the street", and showed us slides of what a bong is and how they work! He even said something like, "for $10 you can get a pretty good assortment of drugs to experiment with." (not verbatim, but it's the gist of what he said)

I can hardly believe it when I think back on that. I'm all for being upfront with kids and telling them the truth about things, but this guy seemed like he was a millimeter away from having a pow-wow with the class!
