This is years old and incorrect.

For starters, the phrase was moved to the edge to make room for the design. It was inadvertently left of a small batch because it is done in a separate process from the basic minting procedure. The Mint realized the error and because people jumped to conclusions like you did, they decided to move the phrase BACK to the face of the coin. It HAS appeared on the face since the second year of issue, (for the presidential series) and will continue to.

Either you are relaying VERY OLD information, or aren't that bright. Stop believing every chain email you get.

Propaganda coins

So the Fed or Treasury are not decorating their funny money with the kind of propaganda you prefer. I don't care for it either. But for different reasons.

They started going for the religious/populist PR - guess when! - during Lincoln's greenback days. The motto was proposed in 1861 and first appeared on a coin in 1864.

The second big change occurred in 1909. Before that, no US coin had ever featured the image of a real person. (The first Miss Liberty looked a little like Martha Washington, but she was definitely Miss Liberty.) In 1909, that changed with the introduction of a penny bearing the likeness of - guess who! - Abraham Lincoln. Since then, the motto and the likenesses have associated politicians with deity.

I do not put trust in cheap copper and zinc coins, regardless of how they are designed. I'll take my chances with my Pamp Suisse 1 oz gold bars with the picture of Fortuna.

I'll be glad to ...

accept dollar coins as long as they contain .7734 oz of silver like they are supposed to!

more exclamation points please

("way to go"..lol)

Also

Even if both paper and coin are fiat money, doesn't the coin money still have a greater intrinsic value than the paper money to begin with anyway?

What's wrong with removing In God We Trust

I'm pretty sure that having In God We Trust on legal tender money and the pledge of allegience is against the first amendment anyway.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

If they can make no law for

and no law against then they can do nothing Right no matter what is on the money

Honestly....

....how dumb do you have to be to post this kind of trash?

This information is not correct! In God We Trust is around the

outside perimeter of the coin so it isn't easily seen. AND it will wear off the soonest with use. I have seen this with my own eyes---so please check it out before passing the email on.

It's there as you said

on the edge to be worn away with use. Not displayed prominently on the face. Does anyone else make the same interpretations here that I do ?
Your house of God is slowly waring away is what it's saying. I find it insulting
at the very least.

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

!

I'm sending the message on to my people!

We should be fighting to rid

We should be fighting to rid ourselves of Fed money, not arguing over how they design it. The "in god we trust" argument presupposes that you support the fed money as money. This argument makes you say things like "We want 'In God We Trust' on OUR money".

If we really want to trust God for our money, then we ought to base it's value on an element of His creation, and not on the imagination of crooked men.

I keep hearing about new

I keep hearing about new coins without our national motto "In God We Trust". I haven't seen any.

A stronger statement would be to stamp them with "In God We Trust".

we'll be ok

congress added that motto in the 50's.

they also put god in the pledge in the 50's.

Did you read the thread?

It has been pointed out - this info is FALSE.

once again - http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/dollarcoin.asp

Misfit4Peace, one question.

How many different ways does one need to learn they are spreading disinfo before they delete the thread? Obvioulsly the OP doesn't mind spreading lies--do you?ok, that's 2 questions.

According to this you are wrong...

I have not seen one but...

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/dollarcoin.asp

Spreading disinformation is dangerous. Please be careful.

They should say.......

In God we trust, everything else we check.

Stupid, pointless, who cares.

If you care that much about having "In GOD we Trust" on your money then you have problems.

With so many of matters of actual importance out there to be worried about, why would you waste your time on something as superficial as this?!

They're just words. Get over it, find something better to get mad about-- lord knows there's plenty.

It's more than just words..

It's an attitude and a prayer.

If everyone who saw that phrase sent a "love bump" to God in faith every time they saw it (every time money exchanged hands), imagine the additional "charge" or "change" in positive energy we would have in our society vs NOT?
So don't say why, say why not!

Positive energy begets positive energy.

"In God We Trust" on Coinage is Blasphemy

Exodus 20:4 "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

Coins have images of people, eagles, stars, bells, flames, fish, boats and buildings, each of which is a "likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

Simply to possess American coinage is contrary to God's law against graven images.

The sin is multiplied when the the blasphemy of adding God's name to these graven images is undertaken.

Even the misguided Israelites of old did not have the temerity to scrawl the words "We love Yahweh!" on their golden calf.

The point about the graven image

is that they weren't allowed to bow down and worship a representation of anything in the place of God or as a representation of God. In the Tabernacle and Temple themselves there were representations of pomagranites, oxen, seraphim, and other things, by the order of God, Himself.

Well That's the Problem with the Bible

For a book which supposedly contains the ultimate truth it sure does contradict itself rather often.

A sin is something that harms either the self or others.

There is no harm in acknowledging God in our daily activities. You are making much ado about nothing, Meister!

But You are the One Ignoring God

Do you believe that God makes the effort to give laws unto his people just for a quick laugh?

I'm under the impression that if the Creator of the Universe takes time out of his busy schedule to give mankind a very specific law it is most unwise of you to simply blow him off.

Do you really believe that God gives orders willy-nilly and you are free to choose which ones you will follow and which ones you won't?

That New Age feel-good crap is really annoying.

The only Laws

God gave us are the 10 Comandments; any others are written by men.
Why are you arguing for a God that you don't know or even believe in, anyway?

There You Go Picking and Choosing God's Laws Again

Who am I to talk of God? At least I am willing to take a look at what the Bible actually says rather than just using it as a crutch for a load of New Age bullcrap.

You said that only the Ten Commandments are God's laws and all others were made by men. The Ten Commandments appear in Exodus 20:12 - 20:17

However the Bible speaks of God's laws before the delivery of the Ten Commandments.

In Genesis 26:5 it is said, "Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept
my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws." This occurred long before the Ten Commandments were given to Moses.

The Book of Leviticus contains a number of God's laws which lie beyond the scope of the Ten Commandments:

Leviticus 1:1 And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying, 1:2 Speak unto the children of Israel:

6:8 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 6:9 Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering: It is the burnt
offering, because of the burning upon the altar all night unto the
morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it.

6:14 And this is the law of the meat offering: the sons of Aaron shall
offer it before the LORD, before the altar.

6:24 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 6:25 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, saying, This is the law of the sin offering: In the place
where the burnt offering is killed shall the sin offering be killed
before the LORD: it is most holy.

7:1 Likewise this is the law of the trespass offering: it is most
holy.

7:11 And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he
shall offer unto the LORD.

11:46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every
living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that
creepeth upon the earth: 11:47 To make a difference between the
unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the
beast that may not be eaten.

So you can see that according to the Bible God gave out far more laws than just the Ten Commandments (and that's just in the first few chapters of the Old Testament).

One of God's Laws is the prohibition on graven images. You claim that violating that law is not only a good thing but that it honors God.

Blasphemer!

Those rules are all

meant to protect us from harm. The 10 Comandments are also given out of God's love for us, to protect us against doing things that would bring us harm (in the form of negative karma). Don't worry so much about judging me, Meister. I think if I were you, I'd first worry about taking the plank out of my own eye.

Karma? Did You Say, Karma?

That New Age mishmash of everything that sounds warm and fuzzy is destroying whatever small mental capacity you started with. Karma, indeed!

Stick to the facts.

God, who you claim to love, gave you many laws which you brazenly ignore and which you encourage others to ignore, all the while claiming that you do it in His name.

And you justify these acts with "Karma!"

Don't worry about me judging you. Worry about how all that clap-trap is going to sound when you stand before the Lord on Judgment Day.
