Better dead than Red

Sentimental, nostalgic propaganda;

hollow words that do not fit the reality IMO.

"...from the people to the leaders,

not the leaders to the people." Romans chapter 13 admonishes us to obey the word of God and that the rulers of the nation are put in place by God. Therefore, if we are to obey God then we obey the authority in the nation. Red Skelton just told us who are the authority in this nation - WE, the people, not the representatives, nor any in position of public service (and they are public SERVANTS). It is our fault if we lose our rights, for only we have the ability to forefit them, none can take them away. Remember that in this nation each of us is a sovereign, and the government is solely a service unto that sovereignty. There is no other way that it can be.

romans chapter 13 also goes

romans chapter 13 also goes onto say.. obey the leaders God puts in charge until they go against God and sin.. at that point we are not to sin and follow those leaders...

A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 22:3
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to
send peace on earth: I came not to send peace,
but a sword.

No (know) doubt...

the "escape" clause is to follow truth. It will set you free.

It seems when Bellamy first introduced the pledge...

...it was accompanied by the (later used by the Nazi's) straight-armed salute.

This is really an eye opener (I just found it while researching Bellamy) since, while I knew the pledge was written by a socialist, I never saw the harm in it.

This is a 'sticky wicket'. It is impossible to approach a God-fearing, country-loving American with info like this without completely alienating your self. It is sooooo ingrained at this point that any talk against the flag or the pledge would be considered blasphemy.

I guess we'll just have to know what we know.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

"God-fearing, country-loving American"

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins and those who are poor in spirit are blessed by God.

That's not the kind of pride God was condemning....

...and I think you know it.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Proverbs 16:18

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

I see no qualifiers here, it's just plain old "pride."

I stand by my statement.

If you can't separate pride in your work, pride in your family, pride in an achievement with the sort of haughty, blinding pride being discussed in the bible then maybe you should put it down and go live a life in the real world.

I've said enough on this topic.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Everybody Wants to Edit God

I have yet to meet a Christian who, when confronted with a biblical quote with which they don't agree, won't try to explain that "that's not what God meant."

How is it possible that God -- the most powerful being in the Universe -- was such a lousy speaker that nothing he ever said was what he actually meant?

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

That's what Jesus said. We'll leave it up to you -- God's Editor-in-Chief -- to explain what he was trying to say.

Yes, I believe King James editted you version.

Welcome Unbeliever!

It's nice to hear someone pipe up with the excellent point that because no original version of the Bible exists, the veracity of any of the derivative copies remains highly speculative.

hi henri... thank you for

hi henri... thank you for posting this. i did enjoy it. i guess my interpretation of the pledge of allegiance varies considerably from that of others. i was never aware of who wrote it or their reasons for doing so. all i know is, as a child in the 1950s, standing in front of the flag each morning with my hand over my heart, reciting the pledge of allegiance gave me a sense of comfort and pride. i always felt lucky to live in a society where freedom and liberty were considered a virtue and where the american flag was a symbol of good.

False Comfort and Pride

Kids are reciting the Pledge today even though we certainly do not "live in a society where freedom and liberty (are) considered a virtue." Those of us who speak out for liberty are considered to be insane racists by those in government and media.

The situation really wasn't much better back in the 1950's when individuality was considered to be a fine thing as long as we all did it together.

Are children done a favor by being taught to take comfort and pride in the lie that in America there is "liberty and justice for all?"

i can only speak for myself

i can only speak for myself but like i said i may just have come away with a different interpretation of the pledge of allegiance than others did. i don't know where you went to school but where i went we were taught what i still believe was what our forefathers wanted for this country. the fact that the word republic was in the pledge of allegiance when i was reciting it in the 50s meant something as well. it obviously did not have what i would consider an adverse effect on me as i am here today with the same beliefs and as a believer in the wisdom of ron paul. of course if you want it to mean something other than the way i interpret it that is certainly your choice.

gibson

I know what you mean, I grew up in the 50's and always felt proud to pledge allegiance evey morning in school. Little did I know that by posting this, what I thought was a touching symbol of America, would cause such a heart breaking discussion. was this realy a socialist plot to brain wash?

henri

I don't mean to trample on any good memories you have of childhood. But it seems likely that the joy and pride you felt was for your friends and teachers and family and the way the trees looked in the morning as you walked to school and the sound of the woodpecker outside your classroom window on a late spring afternoon.

As you stood to say the pledge with your classmates, Truman's policy in Korea (for example) probably never crossed your mind.

Never give up your good memories but don't forget that the world is full of manipulators who are always trying to exploit for their own purposes what is best in each of us.

And I like Red Skelton, too.

hi again henri... it seems

hi again henri... it seems there isn't any subject that can't be analyzed to death. let us not forget the very word begins with 'anal'. anyway, i do appreciate the fact that i was able to say the pledge of allegiance before school every morning without the negative connotations that some seem to have the need to find and with the thought that i was lucky to have been born here and to have been allowed to grow up here. we all have to be born somewhere right? thank you again for the post, much appreciated.

Thank You.

Straight up indoctrination

Nothing like brainwashing the masses while they're still young.

A more accurate pledge would be something like...

" 'WE' pledge 'OUR' lives as government slaves, to the idol that is the banner of 'OUR' superiors that are the government, and to those people who make the rules which 'WE' must live by or accept that they will kill 'US'. 'WE' are one nation ruled by men where the state is god, indivisible except for when 'WE' might want to step out of line and not do as 'WE' am told for which I will accept 'OUR' punishment without resistance, where 'WE' will spread lies that 'WE' are free and have 'OUR' liberty to 'OUR' fellow slaves, where 'WE' will accept what 'OUR' masters call 'justice', or else."

Bump.

Forcing children to make a

Forcing children to make a pledge of allegiance to a country, before they have had a chance to visit any of the more than 190 other countries, is basically forced blind nationalism.

'One nation, indivisible' is unconstitutional and hammers the point that States cannot succeed.

'Under God'?...What about all of the folks in this big melting pot that believe in Allah, Ram, Ganesh, Krishna, Krish, Om, Durga, Sai baba, sai, Shiva, Balaji, Hanuman, Jai hanuman, or prefer to have no believe system at all?

This nationalistic tactic reminds me of little German school children making a pledge to Hiltler with their arms in an erect position except the little American arms are not so erect.

The only good part of this creepy little prayer is that it refers to the United States as a Republic.

Most people around here insinuate Masons do evil.

I tend to point out the truth about the good they do.

Since you bring it up, why are you so obsessed with what I think?

Why isn't it at the head of the line? How many get this many comments? It's a little off topic but it is freedom of speech and surely a consequence of big, big government.
