LAKE JACKSON — Standing amid a crowd of people who have supported Ron Paul for years, his son Rand Paul talked about the ideas of limited government but with a slight twist.

After saying the federal government made a mistake giving out billions to poor-performing companies, Rand Paul asked what General Motors’ initials now represent.

“Government Motors,” he said to a laughing audience.

After following in his father’s footsteps as a physician and accompanying him on the presidential campaign trail, Dr. Rand Paul, an opthamologist and the third of Ron and Carol Paul’s five children, now is trying to follow him to Washington.

Rand Paul announced last month he is running for the 2010 Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat in Kentucky after incumbent Jim Bunning said he would not seek re-election to the seat he has held since 1998.

While his father broke fundraising records running for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, Rand Paul said he has to be able to win the Kentucky race on his own.

Rand Paul shares his father’s views about the need to reduce inflation, the national debt and corporate bailouts, but he said he tends to be a little more colorful than his father, he said. He offered as an example that he once told a reporter the Republican Party had lost its “mojo.”

“The bank bailout is the gift that keeps on taking,” Rand Paul said to laughter at a recent Lake Jackson fundraiser for his Senate campaign.

Many supporters of both Pauls crowded into Dr. Richard Hardoin’s lakeside house in Lake Jackson to meet the younger Paul and donate to his Senate run.

“I supported his dad for 35 years,” Hardoin said. “We need more people in Washington with his philosophy. Rand is going to carry the same torch.”

Yep, from the video clips I've seen of him...

...he seems to hold his own pretty well, colorful side and all.

Once elected, and when and IF his actual voting records...

reflect that of Ron Paul's and those sought by us in the R3VOLution, I'd say Rand has makings of possible Pres.candidate: smart, articulate, capable, great communicator, and most importantly faithful to wife and family. Future does seem promising for our "other" Dr.Paul.

yes...

he is a great speaker witty and smart.
Thanks for keeping this post "alive".
