Ron Paul campaign lives on in Senate races

Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-Texas) presidential campaign will live on in 2010 in the form of two of his closest devotees running in key Senate races.

And they are starting to have a real impact.

Paul’s libertarian-leaning presidential bid, while notable for its novelty and the amount of money he raised, was never given a chance. By contrast, his son Rand Paul and adviser Peter Schiff are starting to be seen and felt in two of the biggest Senate races in the country.

Rand Paul has already raised nearly $770,000 and is on pace to report a quarterly total of about $1 million for the GOP primary to replace Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.). In addition, a SurveyUSA poll last week showed him within striking distance of the establishment favorite, Secretary of State Trey Grayson, trailing 37-26.

Schiff, meanwhile, is approaching the $1 million mark before he is even an officially announced candidate in the race against Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.).

Both keep running tabs of their fundraising online, which is highly unusual for a federal candidate. And that’s not the only thing that sets them apart.

Schiff and Paul are harnessing the energy that propelled Ron Paul to more than $35 million raised in the presidential race and hoping it translates better to a smaller-scale, but still high-profile, Senate race. Ron Paul didn’t win any states, but his acolytes say focusing on one state could pay dividends.

“I couldn’t do this without his presidential election,” said Rand Paul, an eye surgeon from Bowling Green, Ky. “This is the second wave that comes off of that. And it is different and easier for us because the perception from the beginning is that it’s basically just about a dead-even race for us.”

RP campaign does live on

in other races also. I am devoting a huge part of each day to my campaign for Congress in South Carolina while maintaining full responsibility for 14,000 people in a solo general medical practice. We have gotten out to participate in every event possible, done all the advertising we can afford and remained true to the ideals I now hold dear. This campaign has come from no where, a candidate who has never run for any public office, is now the only remaining candidate from the largest county in South Carolina. There are however 5 or 6 remaining who are better funded and established politically.

Ground work will continue to be laid for the next 3 months and then my medical practice will be situated so that even more time can be spent on the road. To the people of South Carolina's 3rd District who may read this, be patient, I will get to all of you ASAP. If anyone reading this, has family or friends in South Carolina, please tell them about www.VasovskiforCongress.com.

Nice to hear from you Mike,

Hang in there, people are waking up!

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

That was accurate

I can tell you first hand.. Paul supporters do scare the crap out of traditional Republicans. Much like how Ceasar scared the crap out of his Senate.

Traditional Republican these days means party loyalty with absolutely no principle or back bone. At one of the party meetings, and the reason I never went back, was before the primary. A state leader came down and told us why we had to get behind McCain. I made my case to my table that I wouldnt sacrifice my priciple and that I would vote for who I wanted.....IN A PRIMARY.

So personally, 'the party' gave us John McCain and they can keep him. They sent their folks down to little county GOP meetings and gave us our marching orders. Like good little sheep...

If we really want to make a difference, the ONLY way its going to happen is getting involved at the most local levels and shaking hands. It would amaze people to know how few people govern their lives... Imagine having a meetup AT A LOCAL MEETING. It would certainly scare the crap out of them. Just have your folks show up to ask questions, volunteer and take part.

If this movement actually turned 'cool' it could rock the establishment to the core. The whole point of politics is getting the vote. Imagine having the network that could sign people up and make sure they voted. Its only impossible until it happens.

The power is in our hands. Realize that. Its up to us to make it happen. I have complete faith that our message can and will win. Liberty is eternal vigilence(sp) after all..

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

Caesar and the Senate?

- (I was thinking more like Y'shua and the religious leaders, or Michaiah and Ahab's lying prophets. Caesar was NOT for individual rights). Samuel Adams and the Tories I could buy too. I heartily agree with the rest of your post, however.

I found this comment worthy of posting here~
I support Schiff and Paul and I hope that they win. I've also contributed to both campaigns. The reality, however, is that they need to have a principled message combined with a pragmatic campaign. One or the other isn't going to cut it. I respect Ron Paul a great deal and I contributed to his 2008 run for President but the fact is that the man flushed $35 million down the toilet. He thought it was going to be a repeat of 1988 and he wasn't ready for things to take off as they did.We are in deep trouble on a national level and cannot afford to have these two Senate seats occupied by more of the same. Mr. Schiff, Dr. Paul, for the love of heaven, please hire competent, top of the line people to coordinate for you! Take advantage of your volunteers but don't rely on them. You've got the money and you're going to get more. Don't throw this opportunity away by running a scatter brained and amateurish campaign. Conduct a hard, professional campaign instead. Please.

This man has many valid points and I agree with him 100%.

For the Hill, this is a surprisingly fair article, although not totally fair.

They forgot to mention kentuckyfight.

A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for James Madison.

Eventually

righteousness will prevail, with the thanks due to leaders like Dr. Paul; those who fight the GOOD fight.

the only ones who scare

the only ones who scare the crap out of traditional Republicans are the ones running around with the obama-as-joker posters spewing divisive information-overload and holier-than-thou self-righteousness.

there are many who are still new to this and haven't quite figured out how to argue our points objectively while sticking to one subject at a time.

it's frustrating getting information across. even to people on your own team.

one of the phrases that i've used is this one:

"I can understand how you feel that way."

It has saved my butt a countless number of times, because it absolves any feelings of indictment while allowing yourself to disagree,
