An 'Obama sickout' in schools next week?
The president wants to talk to America's kids about the importance of setting educational goals and taking personal responsibility in school. But conservative voices across the country are labeling Tuesday's address inappropriate "indoctrination," and some are going so far as to suggest that parents hold their kids out of school.
Obama's speech, set for 11 a.m. Central time, "will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals and take responsibility for their learning," according to a letter U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan sent to principals last week.
The letter bills the talk as "the first time an American president has spoken directly to the nation's school children about persisting and succeeding in school." The Department of Education also provided suggested curriculum materials, including worksheets for students to list and discuss their goals and the importance of education.
The speech has lit up talk radio with allegations that the Obama administration is trying to inappropriately politicize public schools. Locally, talker Mark Davis suggested Tuesday might be a good day to be sick.
So, what do you think? Is it inappropriate for President Obama to talk to kids about the importance of education? Should schools allow kids to watch his speech? Should parents join the "Obama sickout" some conservatives are suggesting?

question why is the "president" making a special appearance to schools -
(never before been done)
what is it that he is addressing ... what is the point of his information -
how are you going to respond to it .....
what kind of reply or rebutal will you give ....as part of the learning experience
and share freedom and liberty with other students - verbally and with literature .....

BARRY is showing up at schools to make sure the teachers are properly brain washing the kids...This is how the obama army will start.
A few months ago I read that at least 200 schools each morning have the kids stand up..hands on heart..a big picture of BARRY is pulled down...like the maps are that are rolled up above a black board...and the kids are made to face it and are made to say the Pledge of Allegiance to Obama.

Yet another good reason to homeschool...
You get to decide for yourself whether presidential addresses are appropriate for your family. Can you can turn them off without begging permission from a government bureaucrat. Or you can record them, screen them, and show them later only if they meet the educational needs of your family.
I don't see why any liberty minded Americans still have children in the public schools. Homeschool may not be possible for everyone, but there are options to government indoctrination of your kids!

I assume a private school doesn't have to show it--but will they? Probably depends on the school--anyone heard anything?

The content will sound innocuous to most parents, but this is about getting the channels open for whatever is coming next.

Since only a small minority would support this, why give Obama an easy victory? Never call something like this unless you have the numbers going in. When you fail it shows weakness, real or not. JMO

"Federal indoctrination"?!? He's trying to motivate kids to succeed academically, not push his political agenda. Think sensibly. Using your kids to make petty irrational political statements is embarrassing for you. It's participating in asinine stuff like this that tarnishes the reputation of the movement.

I honestly doubt you are either.
My kids are constantly on the Honor Roll, if not Distinguished Honors.
They are polite to adults, whether teachers or others.
They don't need motivation from anyone, except for that given by their Mother and I.
And since I can't vet what Obama's agenda is, I will do what I think is right by my children.
Should I be embarrassed by that?

I don't know the content of his speech, so I can't say anything about "indoctrination", but it's not a bad political strategy to reach out to the young generation while they're still naive and inexperienced. Get yourself known as the party that's familiar and friendly to your age group, and you'll win their votes in the 2012 election.
It's also concerning that the students will not be presented with any opposing perspective or arguments to whatever Obama might say.
