It is REAL MONEY, and the Chinese know it for sure. Too bad the Federal Reserve here in the good old freaking USA, with debt out their A-holes doesn't. By the way Bernanke is about the dumbest Historian of the Great Depression that the American Education System could put out, this man Ben Bernanke is useless, and unforturnately helping to bring the United States of America to it's knees to the Chinese, and Russian Governments.

if gold goes up to 5k, then you haven't "gained" anything. you have just maintained the value of what that gold could have purchased when it was still 1k, because prices will also rise 5 fold. so only people holding on to FRN's will loose 80% of their wealth. this would start a chain reaction in the economy much worse than the current recession.

the only way out of this mess that i can see is to experience a mass awakening, stop government spending, and return to a sound metal standard.

The exchange value of gold, like everything else, will be determined by supply and demand. If the dollar value of gold goes to $5000 ONLY as a result of the decline in the exchange value of the dollar, you are correct. BUT if the dollar value of gold goes up to $5000 in part because of an increase in demand for gold, then its exchange value against other goods and services will ALSO go up and holders of gold will not merely have kept their ground (which is a good thing in itself) but will have gained.

exactly... the chinese are telling their masses to buy silver and gold.. 6 billion people in the world.. 4 to 6 billion ounces of gold in the the world.. 1 ounce of gold enough for each human on the planet... ?? nope.. its even worse for silver.. 1/6 of an ounce for each human.. as demand keeps going up the purchasing power of silver and gold will go up.

not true.. in 1913 100,000.00 bought 5000 ounces of Gold.. today 5000 ounces of gold is worth what? 4, 945,000.00 .. so you are telling me it costs 5 million today to preserve what you had almost 100 years ago?
5 million still buys lots of stuff today.. what is going to happen as we near the end of the dollar fiat system gold will gain even more purchasing power quicker then it did in the last 97 years..

yea but $100,000 bought a hell of alotta stuff in 1913. you would essentially be what we call today a "millionaire" in 1913 if you had $100K back then.

2 different times Michael.. 1979-80 is not 2009-10.. the economy, the finances the whole country were different then. the US was the worlds largest creditor.. not the worlds largest debtor.. I don't understand why you prechterites do not see that.. we are in unchartered territory.. you also did not have China, Russia, and the rest of the world buying gold hand over fist to get rid of their dollars.. you can not compare then to today. but do as you will.. by the way.. hope you are right... I will have a nice sum of money to add to my 5.00 silver position by Christmas..

I neither said they were the same nor different. I am simply offering perspective. The late 70's had its own set of problems, most of which are long forgotten, just as most of our current problems will be long forgotten 30 years from now.
