Strip your local PD of Tasers
As any kid with a new toy knows...it's no fun unless you use it.
In my town, the police were (wisely) not given Tazers. No Tazers, no over-use of Tazers during routine interaction with citizens.
We like it better that way.
Were they any less protected before Tazers? No, of course not. The Taser was invented to insulate the officer from violent, dangerous offenders. Now it serves as a 'convenience weapon' to be employed whenever someone disobeys, annoys or ignores an officer or when he or she is too tired to bother arguing anymore.
Swarm your local government and DEMAND that Tazers are removed from the belts of your on-duty patrolmen. They should remain at the station or in the possession of a supervisor who can be called upon in cases where they SHOULD be employed rather than used wantonly by rank and file members of the force.
Swarm your local councilman's home and demand this be brought up for a vote.
Your town sets a good example, get the word out.

I recal an incident when a man was trying to get hold...
...of a policeman's Tazer and the officer drew his service pistol and shot his.
The officer later said he was 'in fear for his life'.
It's a non-lethal weapon.
