Parents, I feel sorry for you and yours.
Apparently its not up to you but the superintendent of schools where your child will be on Obama day. With punishments ranging from imprisonment to fines its a wonder if parents ill be able to afford to protect their own blood.
As is the case in district No. 3 in Arizona.

A speech on the importance of education sounds like job security and recognition to educators.

your kid is going to get singled out from his peers as somebody who's parents are whack jobs. timmy will suffer from public scrutiny over something he is just going to catch on youtube anyway. the buzz going around will only cause more kids to tune into it. pre-college aged kids typically don't care about politics, but when the topic of conversation turns to obama's address and parents keeping their kids home to prevent them from watching it, then what do you think is going to happen?
those kids who adamantly agree that it should not be shown at school will be wedged against the kids who tend to go with the status-quo. after everything is said and done, obama will not have said anything out of the ordinary which will further make timmy look silly.
in short: they will be lured in to the false left/right paradigm at an earlier age.

President Obama has met with the pope, the queen of England and will address both houses of Congress next week.
But his efforts to get an audience with American schoolchildren for a pep talk are falling flat.
An Obama speech to students about academic success, to be broadcast over cable television, radio and the Internet on Tuesday, won't reach many Tarrant County students.
Most Tarrant County school districts will not make it mandatory viewing for students. Many districts say they don't have the technology to provide it. Others will give parents the opportunity to have their children skip it if teachers show it in class.
For many districts, the 11 a.m. speech conflicts with lunch and curriculum plans so administrators are opting against live showings. Many districts are recording the 15-to-20-minute speech for teachers who want to use it in class later or will post a link on their Web sites for students and parents to access.
The 63,500 students in Arlington schools won't be watching the address live. The district will post an Internet link to the speech and provide a recording for teachers.

district superintendent imagines he has the power to demand parent compliance. He should be voted out asap.
Parents, don't let them bully you. Whatever is the system, write a note or call, or just have your kid not show up and let them call you if you prefer.
Say you're keeping your child home for a mental health day or a day of rest, or whatever. They don't own your child.
Start seriously looking into homeschooling; you will be glad to get out from the constant stress of having your child indoctrinated by Liars and bullies.
One caveat: your child's wishes should be respected in this. He or she may choose to attend, curious or wanting to hear what all his/her friends will hear. If so, it's best to explain your views and say you trust the child to use good judgment even if all the kid's friends lap it up.
No more than the government can force its vision on you, you cannot force yours on your child. But trust the truth of the freedom message. If the child isn't ready for it now, stay positive, keep your relationship with the child respectful, and in time your children will see the light.

Parents all over this country homeschool very successfully. there are lots of resources to help people steer clear of the pitfalls in each state.
It is the parent's full responsibility to give the child a good moral base, and an objective, truthful education; that cannot be done if the child is subject to propaganda all day long.
It is also the parents' responsibility to model courage and independent, principled behavior.

My step-daughter (in the Ft. Lauderdale area) has just
informed me via Facebook that she will take a day off work in order to keep both her kids at home and explain to them why they are being kept at home as well as her own opinion regarding anything the Dalai Obama chooses to say. In order to appreciate the weight of her remark, you would have to be familiar with her pre-parenting attitude of past years to compare with her very-much-the-parent attitude that has developed over the last 9+ years. She was pretty ballistic. I wonder how widespread the attitude is.

Regine Gordon doesn't want her 6-year-old son to hear from President Obama next week.
Gordon, of Tampa, Fla., is among a growing number of parents across the country who are troubled by the president's plan to address elementary, middle and high school students in an online and televised speech Tuesday.
"It's a form of indoctrination, and I think, really, it's indicative of the culture that the Obama administration is trying to create," Gordon told FOXNews.com on Thursday. "It's very socialistic."
After writing letters to her congressmen and school officials, Gordon said her son, David, will be allowed to participate in an alternative activity at Gorrie Elementary School during Obama's address, which comes on the first day of school for many children.
"I'm waiting to hear from his teacher, but I have told them to go ahead and I'd like [David] to go do something else," Gordon said. "It's kind of like going through the children to get to their parents. Children are very vulnerable and excited. I mean, this is the president. I think it's an underhanded tactic and indicative of the way things are being done."

Few would argue that a parent who abuses a child ought to be allowed to continue, although we might debate whether we want the State to be the agent of intervention. But regardless of who is charged with stopping abuse, the question of what constitutes abuse is inevitable. Spare the Hope speach, spoil the child? That seems like a stretch.
I think most people want to indoctrinate children - to their own doctrines - while sincerely believing that child indoctrination is a bad thing. DoubleThink happens.

The kids (and parents if possible) should go, but with pen and paper in hand. They should write down anything that they question, and critique it later. They could make a project out of formulating better alternatives to what will be discussed by Obama.
The parents can sharpen up their children, for those old enough, over the long weekend about how to deal with this speech and how to go about providing counter proposals.
The young ones should be taken out of this speech. The brain washing starts early with ones so impressionable.

SSgT_AF I just talked to my stepson about this, telling him that it was his decision to watch or not to watch the speech. My stepson has aspbergers syndrome which is a form of autism, and he has already formed his own opinion of Obama. When I told him about the speech he said that he didn't want to waste his time watching a socialist. Granted my stepson (a jr in high school) has this problem he very much aware of what is going on in this country and believes that what is going on will affect his well being. I am very proud that he has his own views and that he is willing to make his own decisions. We do live in the Scottsdale Unified school district and if they tell us that we can't pull him out of school for this we will still do it. The schools have no say in what decisions I make for my stepson or what decision he makes on this issue.

Well, there's ways around it.
For starters, had my kid been in that situation, I would instruct him to sit there with his hands over his ears, or to simply go to sleep.
But my kid isn't in public schools, so his time is better spent than even that.
For those whose kids will be subject to this malarkey, pull them out a day early and bring them back the following week and take them to see ill Grandma, Mickey, Yellowstone, or some other "vacation."
If the district objects, remind them you have final say over your child's education, not them. That, and a speech by the President is propaganda, not education.
That kind of statement
is what's known as the "color of law" bluff.
There is no "law" which allows them to take such an action, and they can't do jack.
What they are doing is attempting to intimidate ignorant people into doing as they say, by "sounding like they are official", and making people think that they have some kind of authority like that.
This is so prevalent all thru the government system in every facet.
If there's no law to allow the bullying they want to do, they make one up and try to BS you with it, so you do what they say.
I would bring suit against ALL of the people trying to BS people this way.
Bankrupt their school systems. Sue the superintendents directly too, if possible, and bankrupt them.
If there is still any doubt in anybody's minds, this is a WAR, people.
And they are gonna bring it to you, no matter how hard you try to avoid it.
