Fire chief shot by cop in Ark. court over tickets

JERICHO, Ark. – It was just too much, having to return to court twice on the same day to contest yet another traffic ticket, and Fire Chief Don Payne didn't hesitate to tell the judge what he thought of the police and their speed traps.
The response from cops? They shot him. Right there in court.

And then the trouble started. So when money arrived from outside the local community, the recipients of the money didn't care about the local community. Hunh, there must be a lesson in there somewhere. Can't quite put my finger on it...

Holy sh** it's getting crazy out there! And the Prosecuter said he wasn't planning on charging either the cop or the fire chief WTF? But then said The Fire Chief could be charged a misdemeanour's for the scuffle... was unarmed and shot in the back and he could be charged uneffing believable!

To Protect and Serve
Serve who?
Like all human endeavors, most police departments serve to profit from their efforts. The town and the state get a cut from each ticket, the police get kickbacks in the form of budgets and pay raises, and simply grow stronger.
They have to justify their existence to the municipality. There is no money in serving and protecting taxpayers from crime. Crime doesn't pay. Motorists do. It's all about the money.

In my experience on a city
In my experience on a city council, they listen to what city council asks them to do.
We (council) has informally asked them to reduce their speed control monitoring on a main road, and spend the time around the neighborhoods. They are doing it.

The residents should swarm the next city council meeting. The guy who was shot can consider a civil case for pain/suffering and the city's insurance policy will pick up the tab. The insurer will threaten to drop the policy and city council will take notice.
The article said there are 178 residents and the seven police officers were funded by a grant. With the small tax base, this town can literally be bankrupted by lawsuits.

are all over the place now because revenue is down. Waldo Florida has a speed trap and the Auto Club put signs up in Florida saying Waldo & Lawtey are speed traps - beware.

A town not far from me got tired of the speed trap...
...and took matters into their own hands.
People living on each end of the main route through the town put up lights on their properties that flashed "SPEED TRAP". :)

The speed traps around here are ridiculous. You would think with all that ticket money they could buy some tasers and get their jollies that way, like every other department in the nation.
