Which government departments would be best to get rid of first?

Of course it's best to get rid of all of them, but which would you get rid of first?

Abolish...
every single federal agency and the "federal" reserve bank. The only government run operation that's required under the Constitution is the United States Postal Service. So I say keep the U.S. Postal Service and every other "Van Gogh" MUST GO!
My three faves...

The federal government?
All of them except the ones that protects us as a nation. Can not go wrong if we follow the constitution.

Wow...that is a tough
quesition. There are so many. I would go in this order.
1) DHS
2) CIA
3) DEA
4) NEA
5) NSA
6) DIA
7) EPA
8) ATF
9) FBI
10) IRS
There are so many
There are so many departments that nobody ever mentions that I am having to look up what half of the acronyms stand for that people are posting. I don't think most people out there on the street even realize that any of these departments exist.
I have to throw my hat in for the FDA. Nobody in the country is being helped by there being a department which exists to stifle scientific progress and to corporatize the pharmaceutical companies.
Agreed
Some of them are hard to know about.
all departments that are defined by 3 & 4 letters

1) Remove the Statutory Jurisdiction for local, state and federal courts and mandate that Common Law supercedes Commercial and Admiralty Laws;
2) Abandon the Uniform Commercial Code;
3) Mandate Unconscionable Contracts illegal and unenforceable (i.e., Requiring States as the accommodation parties to the federal debt.);
4) Amend Article 1, Section 8, Clause 2 within the Constitution with the removal of the Legislative Branch's ability to borrow currency, which removes the risk to circumvent the Constitution and Bill of Rights to the citizenry of the nation of the United States by a creditor that obtained significant influence from the loan(s); and
5) Amend Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 within the Constitution, which gave Congress exclusive rule over territories (i.e., District of Columbia, Guam, etc.), with the mandate that all territories shall abide by the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Well, not technically, but
Well, not technically, but since it is the primary source of power for the real government (you know, the one behind the puppets in DC) I would say it's a much as a part of govt as any other. I'd also throw in the DEA, the Dept of Energy (who is intrumental in supressing alternative means of obtaining cheap, clean power and who keeps 3rd world countries in "their place" by preventing them from utilizing nuclear energy etc) and get rid of the Dept of Transportation as well. Basically ANY government agency that doesn't serve to protect U.S. citizens from aggression, or protect individual property and civil rights has to GO! I love my country, and hate our government...... it's funny how they are two completely different things these days.

Uhh,
all of them? We can sort through them later. :)
I want to start
with a more simple approach by firing this lady.
Hot Air - Romer Spins the Unemployment Rise
Holy cow that is some
Holy cow that is some ignorant stuff. There have to be at least 20 million adults and 10 million children in the country who are more qualified than her to have her job.
In reverse order they were created:
Homeland Security
Veterans Affairs
Education
Energy
Transportation
Housing and Urban Development
Health & Human Services
Labor
Commerce
Agriculture
I would return the functions of each abolished department to whence they came, one by one. I would then start abolishing unnecessary agencies and offices.
I would stick with the following departments:
State
Defense
Treasury
Justice
Interior
I would also not appoint a UN ambassador and instruct the Comptroller not to pay any UN dues. I would remove any security protection for UN diplomats if any exists and require all UN diplomats to arrive through the State Department as required of all other official visits.
I would abolish the CIA, as well as the Secret Service.
The NSA would be subsumed into the Defense department and any intelligence gathering functions of the CIA would be likewise.
The Council on Economic Advisors would be subsumed into the Treasury department as would the OMB.
The EPA would be reduced and subsumed into the Interior Department.
The U.S. Trade Representative would be placed under the State Department.
After all that, I might do some reorganization again if neeed just to make sure offices and agencies make sense in the departments they are in.
I would of course abolish all GSE's and Federal Corporations, including the FED and the Postal Service.
I agree
I would include the FDA, NASA, and the armed forces.
Armed forces really needs to be reformed.

Yes
The president shouldn't get a standing army I think.
States can't get true nullification rights so long as he is constantly threatening them.
Oh, they are included as well.
That would be under the "all other agencies and offices" comment.
The FDA is a ruse for corporate farming and packing, NASA can be privatized, and we only need to maintain a Navy and an Air Force. The Army should be disbanded except for critical infrastructure, and we should revive the State Militia system. (Google Ed Viera and "constitutional homeland security" or "the militia of the several states" He has some great works on this)
The Navy..
Is the only constitutional professional "standing" force - I'd get rid of a chunk of the offensive Air Force and Air National Guard capability and give the rest to the Navy.
Marines are part of the Navy - they get to stay. Coast Guard ships get repainted in Navy colors and that becomes the Navy's job again.
I'd get rid of the 2 branches I served in myself - the Regular Army and the Army Reserves - though I would keep intact the Ranger Battallions, SF, and Delta units - they just get to wear Navy/Marine Corp uniforms in the future, and say Aye Aye. Why? Because warfare has changed since the time of the militias the founders served in. (SF would play a very important role in defense of the Republic - they specialize in training irregular "militia" forces how to wage successful guerrilla warfare)
Then scrap the Dick Act of 1903 and return the National Guard to the States to do with what they will.
States would decide whether to have a paid NG system as exists currently, or scrap it and return to the militia defense model,or move to a hybrid of the two....my guess is after realizing how much the current NG costs, most states would at least move to a hybrid of the two...raising taxes to pay to maintain the status quo of the NG may not be so popular in some states....

Jefferson
It is interesting that Jefferson was upset that the original Constitution did not prevent a standing army.
Yet once he was president he signed a bill to start Westpoint.
Huh-well a service academy didn't quite equate a standing army..
But I'd get rid of the serivce academies too - they pump out officers who don't think "out of the box" and officers who graduated from regular universities perform just as well if not better....at a fraction of the cost to taxpayers...
