Florida Republican Party Wages War on Liberty Caucus: ‘Party Purge’ Expels Caucus Chair and Members from RPOF Positions
NO ROOM FOR DISSENT IN FLORIDA REPUBLICAN PARTY

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Last Friday, the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Grievance Committee notified Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida Chairman Will G. Pitts of Jacksonville and four other Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) members that they have been removed from positions within the RPOF or prohibited from serving in any official RPOF capacity for a period of no less than two years.

“This is just the latest action in the ongoing ‘Party Purge’,” said grassroots organizer Doug Guetzloe of Orange County, who was banned from participating in party activities until after August 31, 2013. According to Guetzloe, “The reasons for this ‘Party Purge’ are that we have collectively and individually called for a complete audit of the Republican Party of Florida finances, advocated for candidates not favored by party leaders, and because we are members of the Republican Liberty Caucus.”

The grievances against Florida RLC Chairman Will Pitts include that he attended a rally hosted by Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty organization, wore a “Ron Paul” button on his lapel after Florida’s Republican primary, attended an “End the Fed” (Federal Reserve Bank) Rally in Jacksonville, and wrote words “harmful to the Republican Party”.

Those words included negative comments about RPOF Chairman Jim Greer, Florida Governor Charlie Crist (Mr. Pitts asserted that they are “pathetic and embarrassing”), Senator John McCain, and President George W. Bush. Mr. Pitts stands by the accuracy of his comments and does not apologize for supporting Republican Liberty Caucus Advisory Board member Ron Paul (R-TX).

“Greer and his friends have no right to throw out members who were directly elected by the Republicans at grassroots precincts,” asserted national Republican Liberty Caucus Chairman Dave Nalle of Texas. “Speaking out for individual liberty, the Constitution, and the rule of law is not something which Republicans should be penalized for. The Party has a tradition of diversity, tolerance, and support for freedom of speech and the right of dissent,” he said.

In addition to penalizing Pitts, the RPOF also expelled lifelong Republican and RLC activist Nick Egoroff of Orlando for a period of four years. Northeast Florida RLC Chairman John Stevens – himself a Republican Committeeman for his precinct – is ineligible to serve in any RPOF position until August 31, 2013. According to Stevens, “In effect, we [will not be able to] serve again until 2016 since the election for the next four year term will be in 2012.” The RPOF Grievance Committee also prohibited Florida RLC Board member Elizabeth Campbell from serving as representative for Escambia County on the State Committee for six months.

Numerous other Republican Party activists in Florida have also been silenced by Boss Greer, including Brevard Republican Chair Jason Steele, Orange County Precinct Committeeman Deon Long and “Ax the Tax” activist Doug Guetzloe. In response to the Grievance Committee sanctions, Orlando RLC organizer Nick Egoroff intends to file a First Amendment lawsuit against Jim Greer and the RPOF.

This is not the first time the Republican Party of Florida has attacked the Republican Liberty Caucus under Jim Greer’s Chairmanship. In summer of 2008, Greer’s staff notified the RLC that it could no longer use the word ‘Republican’ in its title ‘Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida’. The RPOF threatened a lawsuit against the RLC. The RLC has used this title for nearly two decades in the state of Florida and obtained proper permission in writing long before Jim Greer or Charlie Christ came to rule party politics in Florida.

“This ‘Party Purge’ is a direct attack on loyal Republicans who just want to see the Party live up to its avowed beliefs,” noted Dave Nalle. “Healthy debate makes the party stronger and enthusiastic grassroots activists like these should not be punished for commitment to principle or idealism. Forced conformity and mindless subservience to party doctrine are hallmarks of socialism – which have no place in the Republican Party,” Nalle concluded.

The Republican Liberty Caucus is encouraging its members to contact RNC Chairman Michael Steele, RNC Secretary and Florida Committeewoman Sharon Day, and Florida RNC Committeeman Paul Senft, Jr. to ask for their intervention in the matter. The Republican Liberty Caucus (http://www.RLC.org/), founded in 1991, exists to promote individual liberty, limited government, and free enterprise within the Republican Party.

my contribution.

With the 2010 elections steaming down the tracks, one would think the Republican Party would be accepting all the help it could get. This does not seem to be the case in Florida, however...

Here are a few ways you can help:

Here are a few ways you can help:

1) Contact RNC National Chair Michael Steele [eMail] and the two Florida RNC Committee Representatives, Paul Senft [eMail] and Sharon Day [eMail].

You can link them to this article for details on the situation.

Please be respectful, as these parties may not be aware of the situation. Request that they investigate this matter and then take action against Jim Greer. Explain that Mr. Greer and the RPOF Grievance Committee overstepped its boundaries by booting out NUMEROUS elected representatives of the grassroots for absolutely no reason.

2) Write a letter to your local newspaper highlighting this issue. Please review our sample letters to the editor and Florida media list.

3) Call the Republican Party of Florida at (850) 222-7920 and (850) 222-7920. Give them a piece of your mind. Delmar W. Johnson, Executive Director of RPOF, voted to have RLC members banned from the party. Let Delmar know what you think about that!

4) Contact members of the RPOF Grievance Committee -- the folks who voted to boot Will Pitts and other RLC members. Express your frustration -- no, outrage -- that they are booting active Republicans from the party!

The members include:
Jim Greer [eMail]: Phone is same as RPOF HQ: 850-222-7920
Tony DiMatteo, Chair of Committee [eMail]: 727-398-5850
Delmar W. Johnson [eMail]: 850-681-2063 or 850-222-7920
Doug Adkins (eMail): 904-261-2213
Linda Ivell (eMail): 863-602-9866
Deno Hicks (eMail): 904-819-9170
Richard Solze (eMail): 904-964-5803
Cynthia Henderson (eMail): 850-210-5385
Nancy Riley (eMail): 727-573-5222
Jason Brodeur (eMail): 407-963-9576

Remember, these are the same "leaders" who helped Barack Obama take Florida -- a decidedly Republican state -- last year. Perhaps party activists have had enough of their "leadership" -- especially when they're booting our fellow liberty-lovers from the party!

5) Join the Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida on Facebook and Yahoo. Also, please join the RLC or donate today!

6) Tune in to the weekly Republican Liberty Caucus Podcast LIVE on Wednesday at 11 EST at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/rlcradio. RLC Chair Dave Nalle plans to interview several of Florida RLC members who were involved in the situation. Hear their story and call in with questions!

Friends, we are winning. Our message of individual liberty, free markets, and limited government is gaining support all across Florida.

The Republican Liberty Caucus wants to provide you with a courageous, principled, and committed voice for reform in the Republican Party.

Please help us fight the Republican Party of Florida. Your phone calls, letters, and donations will make the difference.

Sincerely,

Dave Nalle
RLC National Chair

Give up on the GOP

My sympathies go out to the RLC members who are fighting the good fight, trying to bring the Republican Party back to sanity and core principles. But this shows that their efforts are a waste of time.

The Republican Party is a dying husk, with no honor, no soul, and no ideas. We need something new and real. It's time for a third party to take the GOPs place.

The best way to send a message to the party is to change your registration. When the rolls start dropping, maybe they'll get a clue. But then again, I'm a dreamer.

Giving Up....

Is just what these Rinos/Neo-Cons/Socialists want.

Give them that pleasure?

No thanks, this is where the action is at.

I spent over a decade in a 3rd party debate club.

agreed

No

What 'they' want is for us to vote for them as the lesser of two evils. Remember, a vote for the lesser of two evils is still evil.

Nope, third parties can't win. Look at LP.

Third parties can't win. Ballot access laws make it too difficult. Dr. Paul has said this himself on many, many occasions. The best chance we have is reforming the GOP from the grassroots level. Here's a temporary setback in FL, but look at our successes in other places like Alameda county, CA. We can do this. We're not going to win every battle, but we'll win this war.

The Republicans

The Republicans were once the third party in a system dominated by something called the Whig Party. So don't say third parties can't win, it's just that they haven't won recently. I think it's time to change that.

wow...

Ridiculous. They can do that?

Can And Will...

didn't you hear the 3 or 4 nominations from the floor of the GOP convention trying to nominate Ron Paul when it was asked if there were any other nominations?
Came through my TV, I heard them and then the gavel came down, completely ignored and thats when the fist's should have started flying like they used to do...
