As an early critic of the Fed and the dangers of loose money, Ron Paul could have emerged as a mainstream thought leader in the debate over how to reform the financial system. Unfortunately, Paul was never able to shake off the crazies -- indeed he embraced them -- and is instead synonymous with gold bugs, conspiracy enthusiasts and protesters who bring guns to Presidential rallies.

There are crazies alright, of the Left,
and they're writing the history of the economic crisis to suit themselves.
A few days ago the Huffington Post did a piece that said eight members of Congress saw it coming, no Ron Paul though. Eight Senators, seven Democrats, were credited.
On "Morning Joe" Scarborough mentioned that Ron Paul had predicted the economic crisis to a guest economist. The economist dismissed Paul by saying people are making predictions constantly, there being no way to know which ones are correct. In other words, Ron Paul got lucky.
If lies are told long enough they become history.
The "crazies" are the Constitutionalists. Ron Paul has carried
the same message since the mid 70`s , Liberty and freedom from an oppressive bloated government.

The thing that I admire most about Ron Paul is the fact that he takes Freedom seriously and doesn't interfere with the way or what someone else thinks.

The crazies showed up at the rallies.
In 2006 I tried to get folks to focus on Building #7 (WTC). I failed -- Now because of the Hip-Hop or Matrix Soundtrack riffed "science" videos posted everywhere -- they became "kooks" -- "bastards of the party" -- for all MSM to mock and ridicule. It has nothing to do with right/wrong -- It's the packaging and fanaticism.
The Tax people! There's nothing you can do with them - it's not that they are wrong, I agree with their basic premise, "don't tax me bro," but they can't see how fanatical they look. For whatever reason they always get the Sixer of Bud guy to talk as the crowd representative; he has a few facts down and a few slurred -- people scream just the same.
You know how we might poke fun or think the liberals are kind of crazy at their rallies -- Well that's how the MSM (and thus all Liberals) look at us.
The Birthers -- These folks don't have a Build #7 to stand on. Obama is not the issue -- The man is a complete figure head. I thought Bush desolved all notions that any president (after Washington, Adams, and Jefferson) was anything more than a figure head -- well let's give Silent Cal his do. Who cares if he's legal or not -- it doesn't matter he's not pulling the strings. It sounds "racist" to stand on this one issue -- I know none of you are (you have black friends - like chicken - love watermelon) but it sounds like you are singling out this one President for "some" reason and the fanaticism skews it.
He just a good looking black (creole) man with what appears to be a really well-put together family (kids genuinely look happy - they are good parents). It's possible to be "good parents" and be "liberal" (I've seen it first hand).
The Chemtrailers -- What can I say here. They are probably dumping stuff on our head (I concede). This should be the easiest thing to prove scientifically - it should be irrefutable; but these folks do not know how to not sound crazy. I'm thinking of the movie Bug with Ashley Judd. Poor marketing strategy.
The Gold Bugs -- These folks are the most errant predictors of gold / dollar activity ever -- less Schiff who predicted years ago that gold would soar. Every week the buggers get our their sextants and ferrometers and abacuses (or is it abaci?) then in-accurately predict what will happen to gold and how everyone needs to sell their 1937 Coca-Cola stock and buy GOLD NOW. I love gold -- I own gold -- You never other than just now hear me talk about it. You guys sound crazy and your predictions suck.
The 912 Tea-baggers or Glenn Beckians: You guys are the hijackers and co-conspirators to recent date. Glenn fakes tears and lambasted Ron Paul and you still support him. Like a battered woman you need counciling -- "he wont change - find the courage to leave him"
Alex Jones Messianic Freaks: You guys are the cheerleaders for all of the above (save Jones does not like or trust Beck -- after we made it FIRST clear that we didn't like Beck, then Jones copied the sane consensus on Daily Paul). The question in my mind is the real number of actual crazies. I'm sure it is exaggerated in the press, because the crazies stand out, but I don't know how much exaggerated it is, because there are certainly a bunch of crazies.
The thing about Ron Paul is that he is willing to let people have ideas that are out of the mainstream, and is not morally outraged if someone says "nazi" or "inside Job" - free speech means putting up with this crazy stuff.
Did it hurt the movement - certainly in the media it did, and we have to accept the fact that in politics PR is very important.
If we want to be anarchists, and just reject the system - then it isn't important, truth is truth, and lies don't change anything.
