Faith in Obama’s Foreign Policy Fading Fast

Analysts See Obama's First Eight Months Rife With Failure
by Jason Ditz

Eight months into his administration, analysts and advocates of President Obama’s foreign policy platform are quickly losing faith with a series of failures and what they see is an increasing backpeddling toward the bellicose policies of his predecessor.

A dramatic escalation in Afghanistan, the centerpiece of his foreign policy, has led to abject failure, rising violence, and calls from military brass for yet another new policy, coupled with yet another escalation. Even looking past the disastrous results on the ground, many officials are growing disillusioned with the president’s unwillingness to define any of his goals in the war, even as he throws ever increasing numbers of troops at it.

His promise of an Iraq pullout was abandoned almost immediately, and his new plan for a drawdown is forever being pushed back by rising violence, and far from withdrawing the administration is actually increasing its overall force size.

On Iran the promise to seek a diplomatic solution has given way to public rejections of calls for talks and the same speculation, hostile rhetoric, and calls for international action that the Bush Administration was forever falling back on.

Iran is much closer now to nuclear weapons

than they had initially expected. I heard this on the tv earlier today or yesterday (shows how much I was paying attention!). I wonder the impact that is going to have on policy decisions.

Obama so far is demonstrating he will actually be worse than Bush in regards to military adventurism....but I'm sure the anti war left is on top of it. What's that you say??? ::cricket cricket::

I heard this on the tv earlier

I heard this on the tv earlier... hm, well thats cool but I would trust a U.N. inspector (ugh) or the (i think) IAEA over anything the box says.

Yep... ~yawn~.

In all actuality, Iran is one of the few places left with no Central Bank, which is why it is the real enemy.

It'll be bombed soon... then we can kiss a few American cities goodbye in retaliation, and the wheels will keep turning.

Iran is bad!

My childhood hero had to win the title from that evil Iranian man known as the Iron Sheik!!!!!! Thank heavens for the real American hero Hulk Hogan!!!

Obama has a foreign policy?

Obama has a foreign policy? As far as I could tell, Obama simply picked up where Bush left off and ran with it. This is more like an extension of Bush's foreign policy.

...

So much for ~change~.

Obama sounded like he plagiarized a Bush speech when he was speaking to the VFW recently.

Excerpt of speech on legalizeliberty's Cindy Sheehan thread: http://www.dailypaul.com/node/103801

"We must never forget. This is not a war of choice. This is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which al Qaeda would plot to kill more Americans. So this is not only a war worth fighting. This is fundamental to the defense of our people."

Oh yeah, same playbook. Hell,

the liberal supporters are now using the Neocons old rhetoric too. Let me see how did that go...it was something like "We fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here.".....OH YEAH!!!! An oldie but goodie!

This is not Obama's foreign

This is not Obama's foreign policy , no way ..This is Joe Biden's foreign policy..Obama doesn't have a plan..He only goes by what he is told ..Just like GW..It's Kissenger & Breshinsky Plan..Jewish- German PLAN

Good for them! Thanks for the link!

These guys would sell out their base if it serves their purposes. (And Bush was no different, Both parties are equally guilty!)

Why aren't his followers

Why aren't his followers mad? Very rare to see them upset about this.

They are complicit

They are still full of hope, dreams, and shiny things. I know a lot of his support and the contradictions are disgusting. Yesterday I saw an Obama bumper sticker where the "O" was a peace sign. The irony was not lost on me to say the least. I don't know if they believe it or are to distracted by everything else to see what is happening over there.

Those who can't see that pursuit of the Afghanistan war is fruitless let alone unjust needs to realize that they are supporting the Bush doctrine and the failed policies in Iraq. I share no quarter with such a mindset. Pick up the damned news, use your brain, and open your eyes. Other than the protests dying down, the next problem I see is with candidates in the liberty movement who would continue this failed policy abroad. If you want to talk about dishonesty in the movement you can start there. Convince these people that this is the wrong way.
