I am so po'd at Ron Paul!
I am furious at Ron Paul!
Ever since he has opened my eyes to the world around me, I have lost total interest in football and other sports. I see televised sports today as a huge distraction to real world events...Hell, I even believe now that it is on purpose. I mean, I stand in the back of the room and watch how absorbed people become with college and pro sports. Fantasy football, point spreads, web updates....It's madness! Don't they know what is going on in the real world? The FED, the devaluation of our currency, the disinigration of our liberties, and on and on...
I used to love football. This used to be the greatest time of the year for me....Now that I can see....I hate it....Not for the game, but for what I know it is there for.
Am I alone here?
Ron Paul..."Cured my Apathy....and took my football games. "

You think that's bad...
I have the same problem and I HATE sports. Furthermore, I HATE politics for the same reason: winners and losers. It's not like I really enjoy waving banners and painting my face red, white, and blue.
If government (and my fellow voters) would just leave me alone, I wouldn't be involved.
But they just wouldn't leave me alone, and fighting back is more fun with the support of others.

I'm a huge Dallas Cowboy fan, but last Sunday, the first game of the season, I went to a rally in Linden, Texas for Texas Sovereingty instead of watching the game.

You Brightened My Day, Lightened My Heart
What a great attention gitter - Ron Paul deserves it!
Long ago disposed of sports as my #1 priority, but still enjoy my football.
wrote him in in 2008, electing him in 2012.

and ain't no fed reserve all creepin into yer mind n shit at night.......
yeah and so a year and half or so after you meet.....you find all this shit out.
you got 18 months of bliss....
and then your life was just a pawn for another's game.
we are all having to console ourselves and eachother daily....
daily paul is part of that.
but bringing others to the movement is so much more important than most anything i can think of. definitely don't let a good love go wrong.
i never liked football.
ron paul didn't ruin just one thing.
and anyway.......as you well know.....ron paul didn't ruin anything at all.
I agree 100%
I am a die hard or I guess used to be a die hard Philly fan. Whithin the past two years though I have not followed as much or been interested in the Phillies, Eagles, FLyers, etc.... I still watch and try to go to Phillies games and an Eagles game or 2 every season but you are right. I am sick and tired of people so devoted, distracted by sports they fail to understand or take the time to see whats going on with our country.
My roomate is a prime example. Watches TV every day, caught up in multiple fantasy football leagues, non-stop ESPN viewing. I'll ask him to come to Campaign for Liberty meetings, or give him websites, articles, documentaries to check out but to no avail.
Sports offer a great distraction and releif from the real world stress and also teach kids values but with anything in life you have to keep it in perspective and find a healthy balance.

i like the NBA but yeah you're right

“We have allowed our nation to be over taxed and over regulated and overrun by bureaucrats, the founders would be ashamed of us for what we're putting up with.” Ron Paul
its not why it is there...
thats the wrong way to look at it... just like saying guns kill people. sports play an important role in the life of many people - definitely teaching important life skills/ social behaviors to kids, in my opinion.
also, just like a businessman - an athlete must always stay motivated and work hard to get to the top. athletes aren't too big to fail... so i think in a way athletics teaches people that dont have business minds or economic knowledge that hard (but efficient) work comes before success.
but i know what you mean - as i sat with 102,000+ in Neyland, i couldnt help but wonder how many people there actually give a shit about what is going on in our country.
and then UCLA beat us... and next week Florida... F**K!!!!
I had to log in, too, to comment!
OMG I feel the same way about my 2 favorites, baseball and football! I look at them now like the distractions the Romans gave their citizens, while the Empire went down the rat hole. I am not po'd, but I miss those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer and fall sports, for sure.
Sometimes a distraction is a good thing.
Yes, I occasionally watch TV shows. Yes, I'll watch football during the playoffs. Sometimes I'll even watch a blockbuster movie. Why? Because after a long crappy day, sometimes I just want mindless relaxation and stress relief. We are not robots; even Dr. Paul would agree that regular stress relief is an important part of maintaining your health. If you spend every waking hour reading and complaining about the various ways the government screws us over, then you'll go through life depressed, angry, and miserable. That's detrimental to your health, and you're not going to be of much use to the movement when you're riddled with health problems and too sick to do anything.
There is nothing wrong with TV, sports, football, movies, or other forms of entertainment when taken in moderation. It only becomes a problem when you let them take over your life at the expense of your family, education, health, and political awareness.

I too am in the same boat. Played football through college, knew espn and stats like the back of my hand and now, can't even tell you who's doing what and ranked where....
Couldn't be happier!

I tweeted this because...
I want people to know that this is what happens. I say it all the time. Every year I watched the Oscars even had a few parties but after I saw Freedom to Fascism and saw Ron Paul in the doc and knew he was running for president I started doing my research . Now? I could care one whit who wins what... there is way too much to be concerned about.

he's ruined it for us all, :p
The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!
fun post, but
I think its A-ok to appreciate and want to watch some of the greatest athletes on earth doing their thing. I see what your saying though. Sports seem a bit less important. I'm all for waking up as many sheeple as possible and being aware of whats going on, but don't be too hard on yourself.

YEah. If it wasn't for Lew Rockwell . . .
I'd still be playing video games and reading comics all the time.

This is
hilarious. I have been the same way ever since Dr. Paul woke me up. I am a C-SPAN junkie now! I get sick to my stomach when I see the droves of docile sheeple who are hypnotized by the tube! Can anyone say Fahrenheit 451?! The reason I started reading is because of this movement. I would probably be an ignorant flunky without having been a part of this cause.
3 cheers!
How about 3 cheers for the public library?!

It's like seeing people at work, at PC computers, playing virtual solitaire.
It's a rampant mental disease.
(They should be killing time on Daily Paul.)
RP didn't open your eyes all the way
If he did your eyes would have freedom. If you stare into the light then close your eyes and turn from it you still may think you see the light like a flash bulb image that is not there. Similarly, if you are po'ed your anger may radiate when you try to concentrate on something else.
Life is short, you can radiate freedom if you have a deep impression of what it means to be free to chose what you think. The real world is only what you perceive it is. Freedom is a choice you have with your perceptions focus and duration. Otherwise you are a slave to feelings and their delusionary impulsive impressions.
and then you die
I don't think
he is really all THAT po'ed. Not to worry.
Not a sports fan
Even though I met some of the great guys from NASCAR back in the day..I just never been a fan of sports..I always liked history better..but now..I look at a program on history channel..and I start to wonder...what truth was hidden from us about this..(example..Im watching something about the Templars now) are they keeping from us?...Where does the truth stop and the lie start?
Also if people tell me their sick..or going to the doctor..I push herbs and warn them..DONT TAKE THE FLU SHOT...and because I own a chat room...I am not just telling Americans..but...Brits..Irish..Welch..Scots..Kiwi's (NZ)...Aussies..Canadians......needless to say..I have lost a lot of people that use to come in..but..there are those whos attention I get..the sites..like the DP..are being past on...for those non Americans who see the videos I pass to them..or read something I tell them they should check out...they are now looking at the faults in their own governments..and doing research...I think its great
Freedom is another way to God...A corrupt government is a straight way to hell.
I believe in Hope & Change..I Hope the government will Change

I'm an ex-Bengals and ex-Reds Fan
I used to be a big sports fan, but abandoned it about ten years ago when our county commissioners stuck us with a bill for two new stadiums by increasing our county sales tax. After much money was wasted, the taxpayers voted out the main advocate of the tax (Bob Bedinghaus). Then the Bengals hired him as a consultant or something.
Now I look back on it and I am glad that I don't waste time on such things anymore. It should be the politicians and owners of the teams that you are angry at, not Ron Paul.
your getting POed at Dr. Paul
but getting Peed on by the government
I'm the exact same way....
I used to be so absorbed in the sports scene, knowing everything about every team, that being the number 1 topic on my mind. Now when I'm at the bar and all people can do is argue or talk about sports it really gets to me. Like you said, I feel like it's nothing but a distraction, and EVERYONE falls right into it. After realizing that 9/11 was an inside job while in college a few years ago, I began researching more and more on the issues in our country and totally changed my outlook on what sports are in America. The people of the US have an unhealthy OBSESSION with sports, and I'm with you, I feel like it is no accident that we are encouraged to support such mindless activities. Don't get me wrong, I am an athlete and was when I was younger, but why do we put such emphasis on our children to play sports, watch sports, be good at sports? Why isn't more emphasis put on what the Hubble Telescope has just discovered?
Go Redskins and Hokies
The public should get reimbursed for training their players
The public schools are in essence their free training camps where we spend millions to produce just one professional player - and who make the money off of it? Talk about corporate welfare!
Damit...you're right
I hold 4 Steeler season tickets and go to all the games and have for many years. Some of the fire started to die several seasons ago and beginning last season I faced a dilemma - I don't stand for or sing the national anthem (I have a terrible voice, so it's just as well).
In order to avoid any kind of scene, I get a beer or hit the head while the anthem is being played.
Maybe it's trite and insignificant, but I can't be involved in any rituals that glorify allegiance to a state that has been usurped by the international banking cartel. I'm loyal as hell to the spirit and principles of our republic and my freedom loving brothers/sisters.
Anyways, I still enjoy football but now my super bowl is taking back our country and currency.
