Attention minarchists! Here's how to win my support.
Submitted by none on Tue, 09/15/2009 - 07:59I can not and would not wish to speak for anyone other than myself. But, if I had to guess at how some people who share my views might react to the following, I'd believe that they might agree with me.
There seems to be quite the contingent of minarchists here on the DP, and at times the minarchy vs. anarchy debate can get quite heated. I know; I've contributed to that myself at times. So what I want to post here is the only compromise I'm willing to make in regards to that position; the position of a transitional minarchy.
You want my support for anything related to government? Here's all you need to do. Advocate for the section(s) of codified law that pertain to your hot button issue to be replaced with one word, and one word alone; REPEALED.
That's it. It's that simple. When your calls for action start reflecting the principals you claim you have, then I'll be more than happy to help you achieve those goals. Until then, I'll continue to point out the hypocrisy of calling for smaller, less intrusive government each and every time you call for adding to or modifying the existing body of codified law.
Make your actions match your stated principals. Call for repeals, not new laws. Smaller government means less government and less laws, not more.

nicely crafted
You have a better solution the the dilemma than I. I have evolved into an advocate of self-governance. You know what most folks call that... Any way, I just think of the whole government thing as a show, an obnoxious never ending TV game show that I must participate in at some level, so I will do what I can to be a bad contestant....
You make an excellent point.
Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
Thank you.
All I'm trying to do is help people to look in the mirror and see the contradictions in their own statements and positions.
OK, since you asked...
26 USC: REPEALED.
42 USC (except chapter 21): REPEALED.
21 USC: REPEALED.
How's that for a start?
Those would be a fine start
Those would be a fine start to shrinking government indeed.
This sounds fine to me
but maybe I am missing something. Bump for discussion.

I'm comfortable not having your support.
I'd be comforatable if people who claim to want smaller govt.
Actually take measures to shrink government, not grow it.
Well, there are MANY
Well, there are MANY examples of needed repeals(police state laws, regulations, drug laws, etc). However, regarding the Constitution, we very much need to add new amendments to clarify some points of disagreement, and I would hardly ever call for a REPEAL of the document. However, its a point well taken always look REPEAL before you leap. Also, regarding the Fed, we might need an audit before we call for a repeal.

legal tender laws
Instead of adding a new law to audit the Fed, how about repealing the legal tender laws which give the Fed its monopoly on money.
Not a good idea. Have you
Not a good idea. Have you ever dealt with a cornered cat? The Fed would know that its days are numbered, and it would still have enough sheeple believing in its currency to do a lot of damage. I would rather pro-actively end it, although repealing unconstitutional legal tender laws is a must as well. It would be better to audit the Fed to destroy confidence in it, THEN repeal legal tender laws.

Clever strategy there. Why don't we go further though?
Say, lets grant the fed more power! That way, they wouldn't suspect anything!
/end sarcasm
If you mean what you say when you claim to want smaller government, back it up. Don't pussy foot around with adding more code to the already too large volumes...call for the repeal of the applicable code(s) instead.
You do mean what you say, don't you?
Are you totally incapable of
Are you totally incapable of strategic thinking? What did I say that was wrong?
You seem to think that parroting platitudes over and over again allows you to ignore things like monetary policy and the real world.
Ventura 2012
Exactly what I was thinking!
Why audit the Fed when the law that created it ought to be repealed?
I love being a minarchist.
One step at a time
A great number of those who are behind "audit the fed" really want to end the fed. However, it would be very difficult to just get rid of it right now--there's still too much ignorance. So, they think: let's get it audited, when people see what crooks they are, then we can get enough public opinion to get it repealed.
Replacing the verbiage of the law that created the Fed...
...with REPEALED is a one step process.
How to you shrink government by adding to the laws which it governs by?
No, 'WE' don't need to add anything.
REPEALED is a very simple concept. You claim you want to shrink government. Prove it.
I agree with the sentiment.
and the strategy in the OP.
Thanks!
I've decided it's time for me to be a minarchist. I want to shrink government, and repealing the existing code it the only way to do it. After all, you can't shrink government by calling for more laws to be written.
Really.
This seems to fall in line with the rest of your thought patterns... pretty simple on the surface, quite incorrect once you look beneath.
So are you stating for the record that HR1207, for instance, if passed will make government larger?

I made an error in posting, so I'm deleting it.
Is it an increase in the amount of codified law?
Would the passage of HR1207 add to the existing plethora of codified laws?
How can you shrink government by increasing the amount of code it 'governs' by?
So you have officially denounced,
Ron Paul's resolution to Audit the Federal Reserve?
You are a troll of Epic Proportions.
May you rot in hell.

Wow, you're an enlightened, clever, caring person
May I rot in Hell? Wow, is that all you have?
Why don't you attempt to explain how writing more code for an already too large government to govern by makes it smaller instead? Oh wait, that'd expose the obvious contradiction now, wouldn't it?
Unlike you, I won't wish you any ill will. I just want you to leave me alone.
