To bolster countless claims on blogs and Facebook, many posted a photograph that showed a gargantuan crowd sprawling from Capitol Hill down the National Mall to the Washington Monument.

But it turns out the photo is more than 10 years old, apparently taken during a 1997 Promise Keepers rally.

There’s another problem with the photograph: It doesn’t include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth Street and Independence Avenue that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.) That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn’t show the “tea party” crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

Also worth noting are the cranes in front of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. According to Randall Kremer, the museum’s director of public affairs, “The last time cranes were in front was in the 1990s when the IMAX theater was being built.”

Only 70,000 people!? I doubt it..

That was a lot of people.

Thanks.

stop everything!

Someone is wrong on the internet!

I was there

I was there too, rode my motorcycle from Texas to DC with the christian motorcycle association.

promise keepers!!

Wow that brings back memories! Worst bus trip ever...and sat outside DC for like 4 hrs waiting to get in and park. Then just to see a bunch of men hugging and crying all over each other.....

I did not keep my promise!!!!

Um...

eeww?

Was it like the SouthPark manpile or something?

hahahaha

Yes it was!!!! Imagine a lot of them speaking in tongues as well. It was a sight to see for sure. I'll never forget the grown men confessing to "masturbating" themselves!! Quite the traumatizing scene.

GaH!

Thanks for the mental image.... coffee hurts when you blow it out of your nose.

Now I need to go find some brain-soap....

LOL.

This pic was put out on purpose. Simply to obfuscate the truth. Clearly that is not a protest pic. So how could it even be said that it was a pic from 912?
Purposeful DisInfo at best. Stupid in my opinion, as the obfuscation is obvious.

There are no people on the Capital lawn, left, right or middle. None around the reflecting pool or parking spaces on left or right or in the street. After having viewed pics of previous events at the capital and after having been there I have no doubt the total people there on 912 was well over 1 million.

bingo

funny how nobody saw the "widely circulated" photo until after the story about it being bunk.

I saw this

picture through a link here at the Daily Paul, but I can't find it now. However, this was early Saturday; I recall at that site people were already saying it was not from the DC March held 9/12/09...because of the Nat'l Museum of the American Indian being absent...
So, anyway, some people may have been fooled...but not for very long...
In addition, the actual attendance, if one looks at those time elapse videos, shows that the 9/12 March had even more attendees than shown in the picture posted above...

Confusing

I can't figure out who's lying, bloggers or reporters?

Both,

Depends on which bloggers and MSM is never accurate.

1st Time I have seen this photo...

I also notice the writer never sited a source or blog that was using this photo. Sounds like a bunch of mis-information to me. Who is using this photo? Left Wingers...that's who.

damage control by the state run media

Watch this video if you have doubts about the numbers that were there. Especially the end of the video where the reporter is panning the crowd.

I saw this is a different one. Somebody playing games.

yep yep...

anything to discredit. If, for instance, this gathering was actually larger than Obama's inauguration, that would be a massive wake-up call to America.

So anything to promote that must be crushed... quickly and completely.

Our next march needs to be not against Washington, but against the MSM.

Or just pick one and boycott it into the ground... I've vote CNN personally.

What does Russia say?

Since we can't get truth on numbers from Bush or Obama... I guess we need to ask Russia what the numbers are?

If it was 2 people.. YEA!!!!! I'm so glad those two people could make it. If it was 3 million. YEA!!!!! I wish I could have been there to count for myself!

WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
