OMG! The Government thinks a HIGH-DEDUCTIBLE plan costs $814 a month??

Today I heard the NEW REVISED OBAMA Plan is going to cost me even MORE per month. I was wondering what the heck MORE was anyway, so I started looking...

http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/2009/September/04/Ho...

It says I will have to pay $809 per month (my family brings in over $80k per year). This is for a high-deductible plan with a $10K MAX out-of-pocket and co-insurance and etc, etc. wow. expensive!

My current HIGH-DEDUCTIBLE plan costs me $247 per month. This plan is going to cost me 3.5 times more money. My current plan has a $2,500 deductible and $15 doctor visits. My max out-of-pocket is only $2,500. $5,000 for the entire family.

I thought it was supposed to save me money? LOL.. RIGHT!

Good news, if you are poor, it will be pretty dang cheap. Why do you have to pay less money than I do? The poor are rewarded for being lazy like usual. One less reason to get a raise.

NCMarc, I understand

We are in a similar situation. My husband makes just a little more than your family, but the more he makes, the more they take, and it becomes a game of why bother? He drives 40 miles each way, think gas taxes, to work 60 hours per week, to pay for another family to live the lifestyle we don't get. We notice it when we go for outings such as amusement parks, where the gate fee is $40 or $50, and families of 5 or 6 or more are spending spending spending and you can see that they are VERY low income, by the language, the dress, and the behavior. (not a racist, just noticing stuff). They can afford it, and we bring a picnic lunch to eat in the car.........we are the slaves here. My husband has been offered higher paying jobs, but for what? To pay more for others? WTF?
Our insurance company screws us over and over, I am on the phone weekly to battle over bills they should have paid but try to slide under the rug.
I am left to run our house and yard, homeschool our child, and do our preparations work in terms of food and investing, and education as to what is coming, and fight the insurance companies, the phone company, the other utilities that try to rob us blind for mediocre service at best.
At this point it would be easier to quit and become one of the takers.........but we are not those people. We do not expect to be taken care of, we want to care for ourselves in all manners. Just let us! Stop taking the fruits of our labor! And now they want more from us and give us even less in return with god knows how much frustration in the equation???
OOh end of rant. For now.

We are definately on the poorer side of the scale,

but have never taken food stamps, or even used the public school system for our 6 children, and paid for the delivery of all our children, (when it became too expensive, the last 3 we had at home with a midwife.). We have never had medicaid, even though we were well within the allowance to do so. We have never been able to afford any type of health insurance, not that usually it would do any good, as we go to a naturopath, and insurance doesn't cover that. Of course when one has had broken bones, we had to go to regular doctors, and paid payments until it was paid in full.

I understand that entirely

and is the same we would do........but in the meantime we are being screwed without vaseline left and right. I myself would like to forego insurance entirely and pay as we go.......
My husband had a colonoscopy yesterday. (oops don't tell him I posted here) BUT we already got an online refusal of payment saying he already had one in his age limit. Bullocks. This is his first. Now I have to go and fight them again. Every friggin step of the way it's a fight. I'm sure for you too......
car taxes just showed up at 30% higher than we could ever sell our cars, same with house...and now the new proposed drink taxes on soda and juice. When will it end. We are being taxed and screwed left and right to pay for everyone but ourselves.
We also homeschool, all out of pocket of course, museum memberships and paid classes and bought curriculum.he wears secondhand ebay clothes to pay for it all. I don't mind it, but when I see what others do with the money we pay into the system, I am appalled. Bless you and your family...........hopefulfilled.

Sorry

i wasn't trying to offend people who make less than me.

I was referring to those who don't work and expect to get benefits. I gotta pay 4 times more for crappier coverage and those who don't work, or make $10k a year get to pay $70 a month. What a fair system!

Maybe we should make gas cheaper for those who make less. And while we're at it, let's make cars cheaper, and food too. Just because I choose to work 100 hours a week to make that $80k, it's my choice. And, I wanna keep my money. Otherwise, I might as well stop working and just ride off the other guys who make 100k

Actually, YOU are the exception to the rule.

The median income is about 42K, You make roughly double that. There are lots of people out there who make very little but work very hard, take no government handouts, and will afford this plan no easier than whats available now. I don't support government run health insurance or medical care, but I also don't support you gross mis-characterization.

I ask you to retract that last statement and issue an apology.

I'm 33, and a

I'm 33, and a high-deductible plan ($6000) for my son and I costs me $125 a month. Checkups are free, and my max out of pocket is $6000. A "regular" plan was costing me $350 a month. They'd better not take my plan away!

Whats up with the bigotry

"The poor are rewarded for being lazy like usual."
My wife and I gross a lot less than 80k a year with no handouts and neither one of us are lazy or any other bigoted statement you might add to the previous...
I am surprised that the mods would let a statement like this come through in an opinionated post

I work my but off, so does my wife, and in the grand scheme of things, we would easily qualify as being poor but lazy, hardly! As far as the national health care is concerned, they can stick it were the sun doesn't shine right along with that comment.

take no offense

You are an exception to the rule, monetarily speaking at least. My Mom taught me that there's more to being poor than lacking money. We were raised on meager means but, like you, were raised to take care of ourselves. We may never have much money but we aren't needy. We don't need the government or anyone else to take care of us.

Having a low income and being against this health care takeover makes you wealthy in my book. Wealthy in ways that really matter most.

No offence taken.

Well almost none. lol Irritating is more like it. I no what it's like to be on top and the bottom. To me one of the great things about this country was/is the ability to work hard and rise above to improve ones lot. However that dream is fading away, that's why I'm here to restore that dream. Thank you for your comment.

Divisive

Government DELIBERATELY passes legislation designed to pit the " greedy rich" against the "lazy poor". They want us all to blame each other so we will not pay attention to those who are really doing the stealing.

Amazing how effective it is.

Agreed

.

I'd love to know what others are paying...

When I had a NO deductible plan, I paid $823 a month with Blue Cross... I know that older adults pay more, but I am 40 and I love my new $247 plan from Celtic insurance. I still have doctor visits for $15 and perscription card. I only pay for the "big" stuff. I haven't had to use insurance for 3 years for anything other than regular doctor visits. I'm saving nearly $600 a month into savings now.. and I have plenty if a problem happens now.
