Out of Debt for the first time since Highschool

0 votes

Well, really since bootcamp but only a 1 month difference. I just paid off the remaining balance of my credit card and i own all my vehicles.

But i will say that i am terribly tempted to buy 500oz of silver on my card before the "end of fiscal year crunch" who knows what could happen.

If you have any advice i really appreciate it...(My situation, NAVY, fixed income, live on a sailboat, bills=10% of income, no family, inexpensive girlfriend :)

Invest in Ron Paul candidates.

I seriously consider my donations to these candidates an investment. I've already gotten a lot of return from my investment in Ron Paul. Ron or Rand Paul and Peter Schiff are on TV at least once a week educating more and more people. The more money and support we give them the more attention they get from the media. And remember, frugality allows you to be charitable.

CONGRATS!! .. and you're

CONGRATS!! .. and you're in good company. I paid off ALL of my debt this past July and I too am 100% debt free.

It was extremely liberating to get rid of credit cards, car payments, etc. Now I have plenty of cash (basically keep everything I earn and don't have to be a slave 40 hours a week)

You'll get different opinions about this, but I'd say go ahead and buy as much gold and silver as you can. Once you start, it's addicting (trust me).

Gold and silver ARE money and there's no sense in holding on to FRNs which could burn up at any moment without notice. If you've bought a bunch of silver and find yourself strapped for cash, just go cash out some of your metals. No big deal. Once you learn the ropes of buying, selling and transacting in gold/silver, you'll never want their fancy green paper again.

As long as cash still works...

build a 3 to 6 month emergency fund....this will keep you from borrowing again....after that...silver works great for ballast :).....the big bars look great, but would be harder to trade when the shtf ....

living aboard has huge advantages....throw on one of those stern mounted windmills...a few flexible solar panels on the deck ...have a lot of fishing gear..a few carb pots...a clam rake and a dingy.. vitamins and dry goods.....have alot of spare rigging..extra sails, and sail repair kit....lots of charts and a sextant...you could live the good life for a long long time...is she seaworthy?

I'd build the cash reserve and then work on the grid free living gear and supplies before buying the silver...it's easier to get what you will need now, than wait and try to barter for it after the shtf....buy the gear that will save your ass and feed you tomorrow - today.

I was thinkin Barrett .50 for a cannon

and i'd much rather have a monkey than a parrot, also...i play the accordion and if i could get a trained monkey to collect money and dance when i play for people they would be blown away.

fortune favors the bold

Make sure and train the monkey

to man the Barrett 50 cal, while you're at it. Either that, or teach it how to take the helm.

Better to buy silver

And in either case of gold or silver, but 1oz rounds and not bullion. Bullion inludes a heafty "Government-Mint" mark-up, save money go with rounds

silver eagles

"Bullion inludes a heafty "Government-Mint" mark-up"

Everyone trusts silver eagles from the US Mint. I already buy goods and services with these, and have yet to be questioned about the authenticity or metal content. Try that with a round stamped with a pirate/turkey/beer mug.

I became debt free last month

when I sold my house. All I own is my car and 500 bootleg Grateful Dead tapes and 8 guitars.

57 ...

I'm 57 and just got out of debt for the first time since high school too. It's a great feeling isn't it? I'll never go back if ever I can possibly help it. I'm with you on silver. I buy so-called junk silver coins as I can afford them. Like many others here at the DP, I believe they will serve as a useful medium of exchange if the shtf. While I am very pro-sound money, I still tend to look at precious metals as a storehouse of value. Since their real purchasing power remains relatively constant, gold and silver in any form should be viewed as a form of true savings rather than as an investment that is going to make you a bundle. I therefore hope you will resist the temptation to go out and spend like a drunken sailor (sorry, I was Army) by walloping your credit card when you just got out of debt for a pile of silver. Buy as you can afford it given your life's circumstances. The future you envision can change dramatically in the short-term in ways you'd never expect. Inexpensive girlfriends have a way of turning into wives and mothers for instance or your life's needs may otherwise deviate suddenly. Congrats on getting out of debt. Good luck with that girlfriend. The love of a good woman is the most valuable thing a man can have. All the best in liberty!

I haven't managed to do that, since my debtors have renigged on

For some reason, we're expected to know every law that exists in America & in our state so we don't break it. We're supposed to know this when we're 18. There's no litmus test for them, as in the 10 commandments or rhyme or reason. C.U.R.E.

their commitments to me & I don't want to ruin the relationship by taking them to court. Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force. Judge Judy is not reason, eloquence or force, she just is very lacking in manners & common sense. For some reason, she thinks there's something wrong w/ people who don't feel like they should have to have a valid license to drive their own car or a car someone loans to them.

Do tell me about this Navy thing, N means military, n means color, are you violating our Constitution by your employment b/c the next thing you should look at is how to have moralistic, Constitutional employment. Moralistic, something you're at peace w/ not something everybody else approves of b/c it doesn't conflict w/ their religion. Michael Peroutka had the decency to quit his job when he realized there wasn't a government provision for it, as have the former IRS agents who have resigned.

Definately, im with you

I really want to get out, people here are so brainwashed its not even funny. People like to say we gave up out rights when we joined and i ask them how is that possible since our rights are inalienable? I try to wake people up but ive gained the title of "the crazy guy" but i have woken up many good friends so ithink its worth it, it really feels like Isaia's(sp) job from the bible.

But i cant wait to get out, breathe the air of a sovereign citizen, start my own business(i plan on going to gunsmithing school) and live a free life. I was thinking about discharging my SS# and then face the firestorm of the navy giving me a hard time about it, but for now im just learning as much as possible before i take action. Im only 23 so im just gratefull to have gotten wise to the system before i got too "stuck" in the spiderweb.

thanks for the comment

That's the Way to Do It

Feels good, doesn't it?

congrats!

We aim to join you as soon as our house in town sells. Luckily we have ALOT of wiggle room and real estate around here never even took a small hit. If we sell our house for 20k less than appraisal then we are able to pay off every debt we have and put 20k towards our land...we haven't had a car payment in about three years which allows me to play adhd car man by driving a pickup for a while..getting tired of it..selling it..and buying a different one..It's great! Next we start building our house 3500/month at a time...won't have a mortgage and in two years we'll be in our dream home without any payments.

Being debt free is where it is at. The Good Book tells you that debt is slavery..and that is absolutely true.

Also debt free

except for mortgage. Boo.
But we have one credit card, Cabela's, my husband uses it only for gas, and pays it off monthly, and gets points towards bullet money!

Popular boat on the Chesapeake...

Sailing has been my life since I was old enough to hold a tiller. My father had a Peterson 44 Southern Cruiser. As a racing sailor, most of my time has been spent on large short-handed racing boats (open 60's) or the smaller ones like the Melges 24 and the Star boat. My druthers are for the athleticism of the small race machine. Having said that, I still love cruising too. I hope you are in warm waters living on a boat!

Fair winds to ya....

Not by name...

If he is an active racing sailor in Annapolis, I would probably recognize his face. In actuality the racing community is rather small so even though we are talking thousands of regulars in Annapolis, over the years you get to seeing the same faces time in, and time out.

I sail all over the country and have friends in all corners of it...and recognize faces from other areas as well...
