I received lots of comments and mail about an entry here Thursday relating Ron Paul to Sarah Palin in a political atmosphere where 43 percent consider themselves independents. Many were from Paul supporters who didn’t like the connection. Others did. Glen, who says he has supported Paul for 20 years and Palin for one possibly got closest to the current reality: “I think Palin and Paul have a lot in common,” he wrote. “They are both libertarians, but they come to it from different approaches. Paul is an erudite scholar on both economics and foreign policy. Palin comes at it from the heart and from the gut. She is a natural libertarian who believes in limited government, free markets and individual liberty just because it’s right.”

Well seeing as how
Huckabee won that straw poll, with Palin essentially tied with Romney, and RP a disappointing < 3%, we see that the author is a total boob.
The Value Voters want everyone to have Their Values, and can't stand that RP is against Killing, and for personal liberty, including in regards to Drugs and sex. Nuge is also an Authoritarian republican.
The other day I heard Graham quote the late Senator Thurmond.
Thurmond said a senator should never question another senator's vote. I know fire shot out of my ears, it made me so angry.

I wish Ron Paul would announce run for 2012
we need that kind of excitement to get this movement to the next level. now it is moving along but needs a major bump in the right direction. I fear the tea parties and Glenn Beck are directing opinions away from the Ron Paul brand of conservatism and towards the Romney brand (if that is even conservatism). We need to take control of this movement while the fire is hot.

Dr. Paul re-iterated just today that he has no plans to run in 2012 but will not rule it out. I take him on his word. However,his run in 2008 has borne thremendous fruit, and whichever Repub candidate can best take up the "Ron Paul libertarian" mantle will at the very least have the benefit of a tail-wind and a considerably less hostile MSM and GOP establishment to contend with. I don't see any of the other 2008 candidates (including Palin) being able to convincingly pull that one off.

You have to know that Lindsey Graham is not a real Republican and Ron Paul is. Ron Paul represents what the conservative wing of the party used to be, before people like Lindsey Graham, Strom Thurmond, and all these other former Dixiecrats(Southern Democrats) hijacked the party back in the 1964 election, bringing with them their religious neo-conservative, statists beliefs. We need to kick people like Graham and others like him out of the party and bring the party back to where it used to be, how it was before these guys hijacked it.
Ron Paul is...
a traditional conservative republican. He's a republican in the vein of Barry Goldwater, Dr. Paul has stated this many times unless you don't really watch any of his videos or didn't catch the presidential debates. Where have you been? As an OBGYN he is averse to abortion and the libertarian party holds that abortion is a persons right.
The problem is NOT that Ron Paul is a republican. The problem is the republican party has lost it's way. I guess maybe you missed that one too.

As long as we are separatists from that party, we will not gain the footing to succeed in the movement to restore our Constitution.

This is the sad truth of it.
We don't have the numbers to stand alone as either Liberatarians or Constitutionalist.
We can, however, work hard to teach and educate others in the Rep. party our values and stances on the issues. As well as run for office ourselves. We're gonna have to do this from within.

Remember if we move the country in a "right" (smaller-gov/ +more freedom) direction (in more than one political party): We'll have won; this movement should be broad based, and I hope it never gets coopted by one party/person (though Ron Paul is certainly the (one big) leader).
Neither the Ron Paul nor the Tea Party movements should ever remain within one political party..imo!

My great big fear about a Palin party, is it revolving around little more than Buchananite protectionism. There seems to be a huge undertow of support for undermining free goods and services trade in both the major parties, and even in the Tea Party movement, as many otherwise sane people seem clinically incapable of recognizing how self defeating this is to their own welfare.

I was looking through the comments on that site
and I noticed that all the pro-Ron Paul posts included negative comments about the other candidates or the Republican Party. The negative comments will not do the Liberty(or RP) Movement any favors. It is only making those Republicans that we need to come to our side see us as an enemy or threat. Think how you would react or do react when supporters of other candidates or Republicans attack Ron Paul. You see them as a political enemy and will not listen to what they have to say. I think people should point out the positives of supporting a candidate like RP. If we stay positive, people will be attracted to our cause. We can get them to join our side. Republicans and conservative Independents are ripe for the picking. We need to start growing our numbers. The time to do it is now. This may be an opportunity that does not come again for a long time.
