Just recovering from Swine flu
I'm actually just getting over the swine flu. It hit my lungs incredibly hard. I am a smoker, have been one for about 6 years, but now only smoke about 8 cigs or so a day. (since ive been sick it's about 2-3) This was quite possibly the worst respiratory infection that i've ever ever been through. I would not advocate anyone getting the vaccine, but if you are older and you smoke, then i would highly recommend going to the doctor at the first sign of symptoms.
DO NOT get full of yourself. This thing was not a joke, i'm 22 years old and found myself gasping for air for days. If you're a non-smoker, then maybe it wont affect you as bad, but even my mental health has come into question in the last few days. The flu took quite a bit out of me, and i think it'll take time for my lungs to recover. With all that being said, i caught it, got sick for a week, and im getting better just like with any other sickness.
once again though, out of fear for my fellow man: IF YOU ARE AN OLDER SMOKER PLEASE GET YOURSELF HELP AT THE FIRST SIGNS OF FLU. The first symptoms for me were TERRIBLE stomach cramps and pain, accompanied by labored breathing. I didnt even think that I had caught the flu, i thought i was developing ulcers or something like that so i did not go into the hospital for a few days. They were even quite reluctant to give me tamiflu because i waited for days to go in.
I dont recommend the vaccine but if you have lung problems do yourself a favor and get looked at sooner rather than waiting for it to become a problem.

How did they
test to verify it was swine flu? I knew someone who was diagnosed with it and sent home. Got worse and went to a Medfirst and it turned out to be a sinus infection and she was treated for it and was fine. She never had swine flu. Does she go on record as having had it? I've heard (not from this source) they do a nasal swab. Did they do that for you? And what other treatments did they give you?
Idea
What you are saying is making me think that it was in something you ate or drank. I would not have thought I had the flu if my stomach was hurting and I had a hard time breathing...
Is this flu being transmitted through food/drinks?

We've probably all had the swine flu
In the 2 week period following the flu outbreak in Mexico, everyone I knew had the sniffles and mild flu symptoms including myself.
My guess is we've already had the swine flu, which did not effect most people badly, because our immune systems are strong.
The only thing that scares me about the swine flu is the Government's lust for power, their push to evoke Martial Law, and mandate BAD Vaccines.

What a great community that the daily paul possesses. I am truly at awe by the good thoughts, well wishes, and helpful suggestions from my fellow patriots.
I was just writing this to try and warn anyone else because i'm young, in the prime of my life, and this still took a hell of a lot out of me.
Quilting: i hope that i will not have to go through the vaccine. what kind of crap would that be if I got the disease, then had to pump my body with foreign substances to prevent a disease i could not possibly contract twice in such a short amount of time. Maybe the only people who should consider this vaccine would have to be the very elderly. One must himself whats more dangerous, the threat that the vaccine poses, or the threat of pneumonia in someone 80 years old or older? I just pray that anyone who gets this will have a speedy recovery, and i do not think for the whole of the world that this will even be a problem. IF you don't smoke, and you do not have any other respiratory ailments, then i do not think that this virus will even be that bad.

Once again, Thank you all for your love.
For those with hair loss too
I noticed over winters my hair was thinning....when I started extra D3 in the winter, my hair grew back thick and shiny! And no colds/flu.

If you learn about the chemical structure of Vit D, you'll come across the fact that it's basically a sterol, which means it's remarkably similar in structure to cholesterol and the steroid hormones. Naturally occurring Vit D, made in the body from sunshine acting on the cholesterol in the skin, acts as a hormone in the digestive tract which tells it to absorb the calcium in your diet. It's not a stretch to postulate that the same hormone could trigger hair growth in some people. All that is needed is a responsive hormone receptor, which is determined genetically (which implies variation among the population of people).
Get, and take, vitamin D-3
If you take 2-4,000mg of vitamin D-3 per day, you won't get the flu agian. And if you have it, the D-3 will kill the virus.
This is not meant to be an endorsement, but the best and cheapest place to get vitamins is Swanson Vitamins. They are cheap and ship quick.

The other alternative is to get 20 minutes of full-body sunshine per day. You will get 20,000mg of vitamin D that way.
All the best.
Thanks, for sharing this with us.
Since, you already had the flu, I wonder if you can get out of getting the shot?

I was wondering that too
I hope blueiron a speedy recovery and much appreciation for the first hand account and warning advice. Thank you blueiron

Mint
For those that have mint plants..if they outside..bring them in..keep the cat away from them...heres what you do
Grab a towel..and robe...a cold glass of whatever..a radio..book..your choice...and 8-10 mint leaves(you'll see why in a minute)
Make sure your tub is clean
Shut the bathroom door tight letting everyone know they wont be getting in for at least 30 minutes
Turn the hot water on..ONLY THE HOT
Drop the leaves in the tub as the water runs
When the tub is full...just have a seat somewhere..read..sip your drink..but do NOT open the door
When the water cools enough for you to get in..do it
Soak your body for 15/20 minutes or until water cools
Dry off toss on your robe stay warm..
DO NOT CATCH A DRAFT FOR 12 HOURS
Do NOT sit under the a/c or with a fan on
Do NOT go outside
This helps with lung troubles...muscle trouble...sinus trouble..and your cat will love you when your done

You can buy a bottle of 2,000 IU vitamin D3 at Walmart for $9. If you take three of these tablets a day (6,000IU) it will cost you 14 cents a day.

People! It's very affordable, and it's very effective. You don't have to turn into a healthnut hippy or anything to do this.
You're probably not going to get enough sunshine in the winter to produce your own Vit D naturally in the skin, so get some of these small and inexpensive pills. Or go outside half naked for 15 minutes a day...in February!
Winter Sun
Depending on where you live, the angle of the sun can be such that no (0) UV-B radiation penetrates the atmosphere for a good portion of the year. As such, winter sun will *not* stimulate the natural production of vitamin D.
In northern regions (where I live), the only winter D you get will come from food sources, unless you regularly tan under UV bulbs.
This (the lack of UV) is one of the reasons it is theorized that disease increases in the Northern regions (hemisphere) during winter "cold and flu" season.
That winter solstice is a real bugger!

good point
I wasn't really looking forward to half naked time outdoors in February anyway, and your reminder gives me the excuse I need to just take some Vit D pills.
By the way, I remember from research in years passed that there aren't any foods that naturally contain Vit D. Sure, milk can be fortified with it, as can many other processed foods. But do you know if I'm remembering correctly? For example, you're not going to get Vit D by eating zucchini pancakes, or an orange, or a potato. Am I right?
About the hair growth mentioned above: If you learn about the chemical structure of Vit D, you'll come across the fact that it's basically a sterol, which means it's remarkably similar in structure to cholesterol and the steroid hormones. Right on
I have not had a single respiratory infection in over a year since I have been on Vitamin, D, C, and daily Multi.
I work in a "cube farm" and would easily contract 4-8 severe colds a year (at least). I heard about the Vitamin D issue in relation to respiratory infections on Katheryn Albrecht's radio show, and started immediately. I have not been sick since. I normally take 2000 IU of D, morning and night. Sometimes I increase it (along with C) if I'm not feeling well, and symptoms are gone the next day.
Here is a link to the study where D was seen to prevent flu infection.

At least 3 person
At least 3 person I know got the swine flu, one of which is my co-worker. None of them go to the doctor, they are all alright. I work in a lab that do confirmation assay for swine flu. At this point if you know anyone that got a miserable flu in the last few month. I will bet you all of my gold and silver that it is swine flu.
O.K.
But I'm to the point I'd rather risk dying from swine flu than risk getting a swine flu shot. Especially since I recovered swiftly and completely from a case of walking pneumonia in 2007, and that was easily the sickest I'd ever been in my entire life.

And you can beef up your immune system by
alternative therapy. There are many threads on this throughout DP to get ideas. Some cheap things you can do are eat raw garlic cloves everyday or raw ginger, along with juicing all antioxidants you can find. I went to my child's pediatrician the other day and there were kids lying on the floor. I was worried because my well child was standing amongst them. A few days later, I got a really a sore throat, unusual frequent sweating for a couple of days, low grade fever and a little bit of sneezing, and a bad headache. So did my daughter, i juiced a mountain of carrots, gave her elderberry syrup daily, I ate a couple of raw cloves of garlic everyday, bought some frozen probiotic yogurt at Costco, and diluted essential oil of lavender and rubbed it on our foreheads, throat, back of neck, on the cheekbones(had to be careful there to not get in the eyes) and our symptoms never got worse. I felt nauseous a couple of times, but then it went away. So I don't know what we were getting, but whatever it was went away rather successfully. I did sweat alot for two days, and really felt beside myself. But we both are pretty much back to normal health as of today. Regardless of whether you get the vaccine or not, everyone should look at beefing up their immune system naturally. I also take oil of oregano by Nature's Way, everyday as well.

How do you know
It was swine flu?
And Why take tamiflu? The side effects are horrendous.
They stuck a big freaking
They stuck a big freaking q-tip up my nose to take a swab of my tissue to test for viral presence. it was quite freaking gross.
And to as why i wanted tamiflu, i wanted anything at all that would make me feel better.
on a side note: i thought tamiflu decreased length of symptoms by days, but you know what the average decrease in symptoms is? 7 hours.
how awesome.
blueiron and FrozenPie, I'm so glad you both
are recovering.
blueiron, you are handling this well, honestly seeing that you've terribly weakened your body's natural ability to keep healthy and fight off disease.
I hope this experience will motivate you to stop smoking, cold.
I'm sure you haven't smoked during the illness, so you're already ahead, your symptoms are part of the process of clearing both the virus and toxicity from your system. This is your opportunity to start giving your body the support it needs so you can go on to live a healthy, productive, happy, long life.

did NOT take the vaccine,
did NOT take the vaccine, and had no plans to.The only things that i believe are worth vaccinating against are life debilitating sicknesses like polio.
Yea, i would definitely say the main thing about the flu is to just rest and drink plenty of water/gatorade. Do not push yourself no matter how tired you are of laying in one god damned spot for days.
And ill agree with frozenpie, the first day was DEFINITELY the freaking worst with the symptons getting a little better each day after.
i got the swine flu 3 weeks ago on my campus
I was one of the first to get it cause my immune system sucks ass
anyways yea, most of my intense symptom occurred the first day (major headache, puking, sweating, can't sleep at night, really sore throat, and trouble breathing amplified by my asthma). I sooth my sore throat the next morning with the salt gargles and i went to the campus doc the next day and just got plenty of fluid, rest, and orange juice from then on
on my 3rd day, my only symptom was just the coughs that developed
i got through the flu pretty fast, but good luck to you bro
same q for you
did you take the vaccine?
