Vaccinating School Children in Ontario

0 votes

My wife and I just had a baby girl (six days ago, in fact). It's a wonderful time for us, but it's also raising a lot of philosophical issues. Such as mandatory vaccinations.

We live in Canada, near Niagara Falls. Evidently, in Ontario, it's quite common for children to be expelled from school, or threatened to, if they aren't up to date on all their vaccinations. We received a card from the hospital before being discharged called an "Immunization Record." It seems little Chloe has quite the list of chemicals lined up to be pumped into her.

I am very much a naturalist. I believe strongly in the natural ability of the human body to protect itself, if allowed to. The idea that mother nature screwed up, and humans are destined to be disease ridden, is something I can't accept. So, naturally, vaccinations aren't on my agenda. So, we have a serious problem brewing, with doctors already chirping about shots.

However, I found some articles stating that the vaccinations aren't actually mandatory for school children in Ontario, according to the Immunization of School Pupuls Act, which (amended in 1984) includes exemptions for philosophical reasons. But the officials don't want you to know this. And evidently, the schools haven't been very well informed, as they continue to threaten expulsion.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue, or any insight they can share?

Hey Warrior

I have no info. just testimony...my daughter is 8...never had a needle, no dairy or sugar for her first year. She has never had any skin conditions...always looked healthy. No lasting issues other than sniffles.
I feel very lucky that I had others around who gave me hints on thinking outside the mainstream.

very happy for you! hope

very happy for you! hope baby and Mom are doing well! I would not get any immunizations.. you have what 5 years before she goes to school... screw them!

Congrats!

I don't see how your daughter poses a risk to those who got vaccinated?

If the vaccine actually does work, why should people be afraid of being around someone who isn't vaccinated?

Sounds like a blessing

to be expelled from school.

Oh, a baby girl congrats!

Just wanted to bump, I have no info.

More congrats plus experience in Ontario

Oh happy days! What a wonderful time for you.

I couldn't agree more with hopefulfilled.

No, they cannot expel a child for not having immunizations. Canada is a common law nation. And no, enrolling a child in a brick and mortar school is not mandatory in Ontario. The Education Act states merely that "children must be educated at home or elsewhere" and the age of compulsory education was raised to 18 two or three years ago, making the home education community livid.

School district policies are very different from provincial law in the Act however, and they will, if you let them know your precious little girl exists, try to make you believe that their policy is the law. Don't be fooled.

If you never enroll your child in a public or separate school you will be off their radar and if you choose to educate at home your life will be far simpler. Enrolling in a private school does not create the same headaches (but may present the same philosophical difficulties when you realize that the pedagogy is nearly indistinguishable between separate, public, and many private schools.

I speak from experience. Our children were educated at home in Ontario (in the golden hoseshoe region) through "high school," as were [and are] oodles of children of friends. People always want to know about university before the poor child is even walking. So . . . yes, those of ours and our friends' offspring who wished to go to university, had no trouble enrolling in everything from prestigious arts programs (US & Canada) to engineering programs (Waterloo, Guelph), teacher colleges, PhD programs at Western . . . without diplomas.

So, if enrolling children in

So, if enrolling children in a school isn't mandatory, what is the case for standardized testing? Are they still required to take them? Although I think that is a fairly recent addition so maybe your kids missed that.

I would love to home school. I'm not sure I can get the wife on board, though. I work full time, so unless that changes, she would have to take the leading role in educating her, and I'm not sure how comfortable she'd be with that. Did you have any particular resources on the subject and how to get started?

Also, this is very encouraging info regarding the vaccinations. When I saw the immunization card, my stomach sank. I've been doing a ton of research and have become quite convinced they do much more harm than good. It's pretty scary the hold that they have over the populace. Especially when it's people you care about getting injected. But at least I can say I'm doing what I think is best for my family.

I have heard this tale too many times for not to be true.

I have a personal friend, he's 21 years old, and his autistic brother is 14 years old. The mother is fighting off alchohlism, for lmany years, and the father spends every waking moment being there for his son, and recites from the bible often. Both seem desperate, yet abondoned.
They both feel guilty that they let their son have vaccines.
Aftert fourteen years, the parents have succumed to the evil circle of pharmaceuticals, government subsidy payments for them having a disabled child. The parents income in now made up of, and I hate to say this, made up of the disability payments they recieve for their sons condition.
The parents both work for social services now, and despite my information and books I've shared with them about diet and rawfoods cure, they follow the American Medical Association methodology.
For me, my blood curddles in my veins, and the absurdity fixes my face into an anry frown.

And never forget, “Humans, despite our artistic pretensions, our sophistication and many accomplishments, owe the fact of our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

Rawfood Liberty,

"The parents income in [sic] now made up of ... the disability payments they recieve [sic] for their sons [sic] condition."

and then ...

"The parents both work for social services now".

These statements seem contradictory.

Could you clarify, please?

I know the feeling.

My brother and his wife are the same way with their 4 year old boy!

Congratulations on your new baby girl.

My question would be that since you don't want to vaccinate your baby girl because it isn't good for her, (and I agree entirely, and didn't have my 6 children vaccinated after I found out about it) why would you want to send your child to a government school, which isn't good for her either? They allow homeschooling in Canada, do they not?

Thanks guys. It's an

Thanks guys. It's an exciting time, for sure. Adorable little thing, she is.

I'm actually not sure on that. I was under the impression that it was mandatory until age 16. I could be wrong, and haven't looked into that yet.

Ditto on the congrats

and question.
