I am curious - what makes you think you are awake?
It is fascinating to me, to see how many people catch on to one or two tentacles of the beast, then insist the rest is calamari. "We need to restore the Constitution but the "gold standard" will never work." For instance.
A fine local Patriot, one who has been at this for decades and is well known and respected locally is now shilling for Beck, asking me to sign and urge politicians to sign a pledge of 5 things.

1) I believe in a balanced budget and therefore will vote for a freeze in government spending until that goal is realized, regardless of special interests.
2) I believe government should not increase the financial burden on its' citizenry during difficult economic times therefore I will oppose all tax increases until our economy has rebounded.
3) I believe more than four decades of US dependence on foreign oil is a travesty therefore I will support an energy plan that calls for immediately increasing usage of all domestic resources including domestic oil wherever found, nuclear energy, natural gas, and clean coal as necessary.
4) I believe in the sovereignty and security of our country and therefore will support measures to close our borders except for designated immigration points so we will know who is entering and why and I will vehemently oppose any measure giving another country, the United Nations, or any other entity, power over U.S. citizens.
5) I believe the United States of America is the greatest country on earth and therefore will not apologize for policies or actions which have served to free more and feed more people around the world than any other nation on the planet."
Well, the first two are covered in "END THE FED" for me, and number 3 is BS as we need to become self-sufficient and learn to use the energy available to us locally and freely. This one is to continue our dependence on corporate owned energy sources and perpetuate our slavery.
I would have signed on to 4 until I realized that I am the sovereign entity and as such, have no need to surrender that sovereignty to any state entity.
Number 5 is arrogant and just wrong. We are an imperialistic, war-mongering band of global thugs and thieves and we need to change our ways and beg forgiveness from the world.
Yet the man who emailed this to me will be going to Continental Congress for our state because he has a GREAT costume and speech and everyone loves him, including me. I do love him, he is a sweet old man. But he is not awake enough to do what needs done. Still, all the "awake" people will go vote for him while liberty-loving, Constitution abiding attorneys cannot even be nominated.
So, how awake is awake? I have one suggestion to test yourself. If you do not understand that YOU have been hypnotized and have not sorted out who and how they got to you, you are probably still snoozing away on some level.

i'm not sure that I am awake reading many responses to this post. i guess i can say i'm aware. i felt i was awake because I realized what was going on, and I am still learning about what's going on, but I'm yet to make it my mission. i still do my school stuff, i still watch a movie here or there, but i still come onto sites like this and read through the news stories as opposed to reading them as what they are, so i'll say i'm aware for the moment.

But observation must precede action, or action has only the effect of creating chaos. Have you read Thomas Paine's Common Sense? It isn't just a call to arms. Paine spends much time critiquing the institution of hereditary monarchy, the reasons for the separation with Britain, and the utility and necessity of government. Observation and action ideally should go hand in hand.

I think the question you asked in *this* thread was the source of my confusion in the answer I gave in the last one, "when and how did you wake up." I don't know that I am fully awake.
Yesterday I got some goofy political call, some lady from the blah blah coalition who had a bee in her bonnet about illegal aliens in Baltimore City, and could she please connect me to Councilman Curran's office so I could tell him what I thought? Trouble was, the bee wasn't buzzing loudly--she was reading from a script--and she pronounced the councilman's name wrong. I guess I was not in an especially diplomatic mood, because I told her I don't care what her position is, I don't write articles or post to blogs or contact my elected officials unless I research the issue first. She got off the phone pretty quickly after that.
Here's the point of this story. Many of you look around you and see whatever it is you see--governmental oppression, deception, force--and you see it everywhere; I'm sure it's an altered perception. I have some of that too, but I believe it is limited because frankly, what I told this caller yesterday was absolutely true. I don't buy any argument unless I've researched it myself. For things I haven't researched, especially conspiracy theories, well, my perception has changed there too. I'm no longer a disbeliever, let's just say I'm an agnostic. I've dug deeply enough into a few issues that I realize that the government is not good, doesn't have our best interests at heart, and at times may be conspiring with other forces in order to wield more power.
Who knows how long it would take me to fully awaken, considering I am more of a digging mole rather than one who is tumbling down a rabbit hole. And who am I to judge anyway? I'm too busy digging...

You're awake when you are willing to consider all possibilities despite what it may go against in your world view. That is when you are awake, objectively observing the world around you and willing to search for the truth where ever it may lead without any emotional prejudice.
To many people who think they are awake (and may be on some issues) turn around and condemn others without any investigation of information that goes against their paradigm. The do the same thing they despise in others when they try to educate them on their pet issue and are rebuffed. Many of these same people claim to be on the front lines of the freedom movement.

Very true, but it is easier said than done. You cannot simply remove all of your filters as there is simply too much information out there to process it all at the same time. It is the challenge of finding the balance between being open to new ideas but not wasting your time of bunny trails.

And so much more. I've been thinking about this question all day.
A good thread would be "What is your definition of awake". I think a lot of people think it's learning about Ron Paul or being a libertarian. Is it? I don't know. It's better than nothing, but those folks are still easily controlled by the forces they are asleep to.
I also think those who are awake can look at reality and make judgements based on that reality. In a lot of matters, street smarts and inside experience can really make a big difference.

when you donate, sweat, and pound pavement for liberty. I think then and only then is when you qualify. Everyone claiming to be awake who has only typed some letters on a computer is dead asleep, unless that typing has been done on things that inform others of what is going on, and call others to action. I am not pointing fingers, as a free people, we need to point the fingers at ourselves because this is our responsibility once we know the truth.

who donated, sweated, pounded pavement for liberty, and then came to a deeper understanding and realized they were doing exactly what was desired by those who set up controlled opposition? I find those people far more awake than those who still believe we will vote our way to liberty.

I was at the rally for the republic when Ron Paul said about the same thing. however, I have found that calling people to action in Arkansas is a fools quest. there are plenty here who will rise to the occaision once the gauntlet is thrown, but they will not do ANYTHING untill that time comes.
my studies have indicated Utah is the best place to get the ball rolling. they have a long history of sticking it to the feds. the weather is anything you want it to be. Saint George is in the Mohave. the Mormons are not what you might think. reverance for the US constitution and liberty is a part of thier faith. fertile ground is the best place to plant a seed.

I know people like this man. It's almost like they know they are being lied to but refuse to believe it's that deep. These are the same people that believe there is actually a 2 party system in America and turn a blind eye when their man is in office.
They are nice enough people but their level of consciousness and stubbornness are at extremely disappointing levels. It's so bad that I can't even talk to these people anymore. I just quickly change the subject.
These types of people are the last to come to the party and should be treated that way. Don't waste your time and energy here, better place to find street soldiers is the HS and college campus.
