I may get pounded here, but please listen to what I am saying.

Can we start dressing the part if we are going to be representing the freedom movement? Especially when helping our liberty candidates in their campaigns. Pick your attire according to the audience.

Don't get me wrong I don't care how people dress and look but if we are to really have an impact we need to play the part.

Just remember that in the free market the market decides what sells and what doesn't and first impressions are everything when it comes to sales.

I have seen many videos lately of the guy with long hair not combed and the long beard all uneven, or the tattoo lady, or the naked gun protester etc.... This is hurting us IMO and will not help our cause.

We are selling an idea and a message and we need people to be receptive of that message and take us seriously. Would you go to a job interview, funeral or church in shorts and sandals with your hair not combed and mustard stains on your shirt? If we want people to respect us we need to play the part so they have no excuse but to listen to the message and not have any excuse not to listen to us.

This world has been brainwashed into thinking a certain way. Think about that. Why do you think that when there is a shooting in a bad neighborhood that they always find the guy with the pink curlers in his hair to interview? Or the person that has no teeth and tattoos all over his body? Never the man in a suit or the mother in a dress or the people in business casual attire! This is to make people think a certain way and not take them seriously. This is not by accident that they pick these people and choose not to pick others!

Why do you think people like Ron Paul and Peter Schiff have gotten where they are today? Not just the message alone but because they also look the part.

We need to be doing it smarter and better than the people out there trying to make this world worse if we are to have a chance at winning.

This is just what I see, and I am open to a discussion about this issue.

As another poster stated we

As another poster stated we truly are a diverse group, but I think if we dress for the events with the thought of not being ridiculed or laughingstocks, we may gain more attention and respect from others who wish to join us. We will be taken more seriously for the cause if we do not dress as clowns when going public for liberty. There's a time and place for everything,.freedom is serious business, lets not leave ourselves open for folks to make jokes about it.

diversity is needed. not

diversity is needed. not conformity. i live near asheville, north carolina, and it would be ridiculous for me to educate the people here dressing according to some typical and mainstream code. there are only a few people out there who care how you look. and those few who do probably couldn't relate to a message that is any less mainstream than their shallow concerns. the only way to relate to other people who wear tattoos and have long uncombed hair is to be yourself. because most of those people, who are nearly the majority of americans out there now, do not care how you look. there are all kinds of people needed in this movement to relate to the diverse crowd of americans and others.

Sounds good to me.

Dress well.

But, Patriot, I disagree...retake Congress?! How bout abolish Congress (along with the rest of the Federal gubbamint)?

Only For The Cause

1) Put teeth in-CHECK
2) Shave-CHECK
3) Wear clean bluejeans-CHECK
4) Clean horse manure off boots-CHECK

But I'm not wearing no tie!

LOL

LOL

OK So what if

How about we all go see Michael Moore's new movie, "Capitalism; A Love Story"? and we dress up and pass out those $20 fake bills with Mises quotes? We should have some FUN.

I agree about "dressing for

I agree about "dressing for success" and working to make good first impressions, but we also must keep in mind that there are some people who are not impressed by suits. So, for the 10-15% (or whatever number) of people who are not impressed by this factor it is good that we have a wide range of people showing their support for our cause. Being clean is a necessity all the time, irregardless of style.

It Adds character to the Events

I am going in spiked pink hair to the next protest so that I am the one on TV.

Can someone get a picture of the crowd this Fiday in MN - I am curious what YAL people wear. Do they have a uniform like College Republicans(polo shirt and sailboat shoes)

Reminds me of a very popular pro peace group

Note, Yes, they are my friends and I know them.

I think Ron said it best.... (food for thought)

"It is not me that is popular, it is the message of freedom and liberty, and let me tell you the message is popular".

While I agree that at structured meetings there might be a need for a dress code, but as for those tattoo having, long hair and beard sporting, tee shirt/sandal wearing individuals the only difference between them and you is that they are more comfortable, but the message we all share.
To point out the obvious you stated:
"Why do you think people like Ron Paul and Peter Schiff have gotten where they are today? Not just the message alone but because they also look the part."
They got there because all of the long haired, tattoo, bearded, sandal wearing individuals sat in blazing heat, torrential downpours of rain and several feet of snow from sea to shining sea spreading the message. It is not the messenger that will spark this movement, but the message itself, and conforming to the status quo while may look good, is probably not going to happen at all times with the liberty movement. When an individual that supports that liberty movement runs for public office looking like Charles Manson then we may have an issue, until then embrace all that seek what is ours, liberty and freedom. After we get enough support then perhaps we can attempt a platform of metro sexuality and everyone will be full of joy and bearing a tie.

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

I agree, partly,

But remember, that much of America is low-brow today. In fact shabby-chic is very much in fashion. The most popular restaurant in my city is a biker bar, and it's very authentic. The point I'm making is, yes, dress the part. But when the audience is wearing jeans, don't get too far above them. Always focus on the message and make everyone feel included in the battle for liberty. Ultimately, it is sincerity that counts, but do be clean.

What about goofy wiglets?

I'm refering to the post about Traficant.

I'm kinda on the preppy

I'm kinda on the preppy side, but if I pass out slim jims to a motorcycle convention, can I wear my leather pants?

Most assuredly.

It's not just a political statement, it's a fashion statement.

just use common sense &

just use common sense & dress for the occasion..Simple.

Tattoos

are for people who want to voluntarily apply distinguishing marks to themselves that make them easier to identify by the authorities. Remember, the Jews who most easily escaped Nazi Germany were the ones who neglected to wear the Star of David and blended in with the general populace as they made their way to the borders.

~blink~

Tattoos are for people who want to voluntarily apply distinguishing marks to themselves that make them easier to identify by the authorities.

That has to be the most naive things I've read on this forum to date.

Tattoos are both a commitment and a way to show others that you don't mind being unique... not a sheep. In some cases it identifies you as part of a subculture, yes.. mostly in the movies. However, usually a tattoo is unique to the owner. So is the meaning of the art.

For instance, the one covering my entire right chest is my wedding ring.

To me that's a little more ~commitment~ than wearing a circle of metal around a certain finger.. one that comes right off, oddly enough. My mate has a smaller matching one at the base of her skull on the back of her neck.

Would that also ensure that the authorities can identify us easier? I guess if we were running around naked with no other forms of identification, possibly. Does that happen to you a lot, so that is why you came to the conclusion you did?

I don't

have any tattoos.

I'm well aware of that.

I can tell from your origional post, you see... lol.

~Live life to its fullest, with an open heart, open arms and most important... an open mind~

Excuse me

I have a tattoo...its on my back at my right shoulder...unless I show it to someone, no one sees it, nor will they see the next one I plan to get when I can afford it..Tatts are also a form of expression that was around hundreds of years before the Nazis. In some cultures they are a right..something you earn. I like my tatt...

I'm glad you like your tattoos,

and I definitely agree you have a right to do what you like with your body, but I think they're GROSS.

If the body is the temple of God..

then I like to compare a tattoo to a stained glass window in a church.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

Why not just

be respectful to yourself and the community you are in with your dress. The freedom rallys draw all kinds of people. But the opposition does too so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Don't let them make it an issue. Embrace the diversity that is America. (Anyone remember the show called "Real People?)

A business person, a hippie, and a farmer all standing together holding freedom signs is much more powerful of an image, than just 3 businessmen, just 3 hippies, or just 3 farmers.

So maybe I'll wear my dockers and a sportcoat, or my Grateful Dead t-shirt and blue tips, or my greasy Carhartts to the next rally. Maybe the best thing to do is mix it up a bit. Either way, I'll be the guy talking to the tattoo lady.
