Libertarian Purity test

0 votes

It was a bit black and white for me... probably the reason for a low score of 78...

What Your Score Means

0 points: You are not a libertarian by any stretch of the imagination. You are probably not even a liberal or a conservative. Just some Nazi nut, I guess.

1-5 points: You have a few libertarian notions, but overall you're a statist.

6-15 points: You are starting to have libertarian leanings. Explore them.

16-30 points: You are a soft-core libertarian. With effort, you may harden and become pure.

31-50 points: Your libertarian credentials are obvious. Doubtlessly you will become more extreme as time goes on.

51-90 points: You are a medium-core libertarian, probably self-consciously so. Your friends probably encourage you to quit talking about your views so much.

91-130 points: You have entered the heady realm of hard-core libertarianism. Now doesn't that make you feel worse that you didn't get a perfect score?

131-159 points: You are nearly a perfect libertarian, with a tiny number of blind spots. Think about them, then take the test over again. On the other hand, if you scored this high, you probably have a good libertarian objection to my suggested libertarian answer. :-)

160 points: Perfect! The world needs more like you.

Some of the questions were too broad and ill defined. I certainly don't consider myself to be a libertarian.

I got a negative score...

maybe I went to the wrong site... :(

easy 160...although

some of the answers just being yes or no frustrated me until we got to the big point questions

Certain questions were worded so that the true libertarian answer was scored as a negative. For example, the questions about drug legalization ask if drugs ought to be legalized (either specifically or generally). The correct answer is NO because drugs ought to be decriminalized and taken completely out of the hands of government, not legalized and thus controlled by government.

Good test just the same.

112 .... So I'm a libertarian with conservative beleifs.

Thats were I should be... It was right-on.

The test is scewed because

The test is scewed because of the present gov't policies we are now living under ..Some answers require extremes that may not be needed, if situations were different..for this reason I received a 54.. ..I understand too much about mankind to believe in total freedom of all individuals.
Evil does exist & ONE Libertarian does not have the strength to hold off the hoards.
Why do you suppose the gov't hates you to be secret, yet they maintain secrecy ?

Libertarian has many facets.. Generalizations mean nothing in a world of complex belief systems...You need to clarify your personal avenue of Libertarianism.

159. Hmm, perhaps I should pay closer attention. :)

Since others scored 160, I can at least gather some solace from the fact that I'm obviously not some radical. :)

This is a stupid test

Caplan should have known better. He could have done this in one question--Do you support (minimal) statism and archism? If yes, you're not a pure libertarian. If no, then you are.

he should have mixed it up

he should have mixed it up to create a more accurate test. the first section was basically Republican, the second Libertarian, and the third Anarcho-capitalist

Ventura 2012

101/160. "hard core

101/160. "hard core libertarian"

Ventura 2012

This is a little too hardcore for me

It's interesting to think about a world where "all legislation be replaced by judge-made law, arbitration, and other private rule-suppliers", and the police, roads and highways are private, I really can't see it happening. It's nice in theory, just like socialism.

When you go to work...

Where you likely spend at least 60% of your waking life, do you not agree to adhere to their policies, procedures, rules and governing documents? If you dislike their ruleset, do you not seek a new employer? If you are terminated for violating their policies, do you not consider it fair and just?

It's hardly just a theory...

(For the record, I got a 160).

I could not understand

I could not understand private judges and private courts?

Private meaning the person/private entity make any law?
NO it must have a historical backing as in law of the land common law.

Umm, socialism is good in theory?!

Ya ok...

126/160

I fall short of defined libertarian "purity" possibly because of definitional issues. Does "privatization" mean complete deregulation, or does it mean ostensible private control within a strict fascist framework. What strings are attached to "vouchers"? Who issues them and under what conditions may they be used?
I achieved a less than "perfect" score, partly because many of the questions were much less than perfectly phrased. Some were predicated on unwarranted assumptions, like: "Are you still beating your wife?"

Gaea Vindice

LXXI BC: Ego sum Spartacus // MDCCCLVII: I am Dred Scott // MCMVL: Ich bin Anne Frank // MMX: Je suis Assange // MMXI: Ik ben von NotHaus

Yes,

I agree, definitional issues.

ps I quit beating my wife long ago?
