G-20 march turns chaotic on streets of Pittsburgh

The march does not have a city permit and police have declared it an unlawful assembly. They played an announcement over a loudspeaker telling people to leave or face arrest or "other police action."

Permit? The permit is the 1st amendment of the constitution. I wonder what makes all these people unlawful?

Money and Time

It takes a lot of resources and coordination to organize and outfit a group like that one (which was causing trouble and making the police attack the crowd).

Wonder where they get their funding?

Can you say "Agent Provocateur"?

"Human beings with love and compassion are some of the most beautiful creatures in the universe... Those without are a plague on us all."

"Human beings with love and compassion are some of the most beautiful creatures in the universe... Those without are a plague on us all."

Can I just say that all the

Can I just say that all the national coverage about Pitt is ridiculous. Just try and start a small business in the burgh. The taxes will kill you. The unions will kill you. The pirate game had about 20 people at the game due to the G20-- that's thousands lost. The Strip District boarded up the store's windows -- that's thousands lost. No downtown small business made money today, they LOST money. The only people making money here are the security business and the Limo business. Also, I should buy stock in a company that makes concrete barriers and 10 foot fences.

So, the dumb national media is pumping our green city. bah! This is such a joke.

Hear! Hear!

You got that right. I live on the fringe of Allegheny County and once again the city pols are pushing to make the entire county the "City of Pittsburgh." It's the same crowd that held a referendum on raising the sales tax to pay for new stadiums. The people voted no but the pols raised the taxes anyway. Then we got PNC Park and Heinz Field.

Armstrong County here I come.

And another thing!

What the hell is up with all of the "Down with Capitalism" posters and banners?

Really? Seriously? Are the that moronic? Those posters should read "Down with fascism" or "Down with socialism". They must be the idoits who still this country was founded as a democracy. That or they think America is still a capitalist nation.

When Government and Corporations get together its a form of quasi Corporate Fascism. It seems though we are diving right into the fascism bucket head first leaving the corporations to be gobbled up later.

And what, pray tell, will these idiots replace capitalism with?

Didnt you know

That "anarchists" are against free agents?

people are mistaking capitalism for corporatism

They believe that Capitalism leads naturally to Corporatism - but, as you know, they are wrong.

Are they really opposed to private property, and men keeping the fruits of their labor ? Are they really opposed to individuals forming free contracts without the interference of government. Do they really believe in Mob rule ? I'm guessing most don't

Let people speak their hearts

I just read a book about life of Spartacus(another book another one)......

Sure, but you can admit, they are confused

I don't blame them for being confused, but you and I, and most folks here know the G-20 is corpratism, not capitalism, and this is why I suggested we "rally" Michael Moore's Movie... we should have FUN FUN FUN rallys and demonstrations to educates these people that capitaism is illegal, it's the black market, it's the war on drug money... Corporatism is USA bailing out AIG, GM and so on...

WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

Granger these are great ideas;

I don't know that the term capitalism can ever be rescued after years of misuse. Language changes and evolves. I prefer free trade, free market, even people's markets, black market is fine.
It's important to keep the concept of freedom connected with the free market and to tie government control to corporatism.
And have fun doing it!

Just like the mainstream

Just like the mainstream media all but ignored the big Washington DC protest a few weekends ago, they are ignoring the peaceful demonstrations in Pittsburgh. There were peaceful marches Downtown that attracted an equal number of people as the violent ones, but with no incidents or arrests. Good luck finding any information about that in the media, though.

It's a vicious cycle. People wish protesters weren't violent, but they do not care to listen or learn more about the peaceful ones. They don't want to be near the riot, but they sure do want all of the juicy details and the media is giving them exactly what they want. Thus, the only way to draw attention to your cause is to act like a loud, violent jerk. It's disgusting and sad. I don't blame the protesters one bit because you only get ignored when you play by the rules.

They did cover the monks....

On my local news channel they showed the monks from Burma and the monks for Tibet, two different groups of them. One was for free tibet and the other for Burma. They were very peaceful. http://kdka.com/local/g20/Tibetan.Freedom.March.2.1205589.html

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

"Truth is treason in the Empire of Lies."

I'm glad KDKA covered them,

I'm glad KDKA covered them, and I see that WTAE has added a story about them as well.

The Associated Press article about the protests did not mention them at all. A quick scan of the Post-Gazette's front page and local news section shows nothing at the moment. So it appears that any attention they received is spotty and local, and that's still frustrating in comparison to the amount of attention the violent protests received.

Hopefully this will change as journalists have time tonight to write more in-depth articles about the day's events, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Let Me Understand...

It's a good thing to act like a jerk so you can get on TV supposedly as an anti-globalist in support for anti-global warming measures which is, in fact, a pro-globalist position?

That's too many for me.

There was an event in town this week attended by folks like Tom Woods. They rented -- yes, rented! -- Soldiers and Sailors Hall in Oakland. How about some props for them instead of for the communists running amok in the streets?

Thanks for illustrating my point...

I wasn't even aware that a group rented out Soldiers and Sailors. And that's despite following the local media closely (for whatever good that does) and living 1-2 miles away. I wonder how many people outside of Pittsburgh and those connected with the event even heard their message. It's not an effective protest when very few people are even aware of your protest's existence.

Meanwhile, the protesters in Lawrenceville made international headlines and got their message out by acting like a bunch of hooligans. I guarantee it got more people to Google them and their causes out of curiousity than the Soldiers & Sailors event. Again, I can't blame them for resorting to desperate measures when that the's only way to get the public and media to care.

But it's the jerks who push

But it's the jerks who push everyone else off the front page, so you should blame them.

I went to a huge, peaceful anti-war rally in DC in 1991. Two guys burned a flag and that was the story that got reported.

Go after the Steelers,

Go after the Steelers, please.

Ravens boooo. We'll beat you three times again this season ;)

remember

this is mainstream media we are talking about

look for independent pictures. don't read the captions, read the signs of the protesters.

they did the same thing to the london g20 protesters.

This is what I imagine to see in the near future across the country...and will probably set off the next revolution. Kind of reminds me of some 1984 imagery heh

Mostly people smashing

Mostly people smashing windows of Boston Chicken and PNC branch windows and ATM. Dummies with signs against Capitalism. I know some of you are suspicious of police, but these people are damaging private property.

I see some patriots mixed in who are not doing any harm and they are not being allowed to assemble.

also

Fortune Favors the Bold

while its not fair to assume that this is the case for all, anti-globalism protests are notorious for COINTELPRO style operations (see the seattle black block) to turn people off from the message. It seems to be a fairly effective strategy.

How can you interpret

How can you interpret screaming for an end to so-called global warming to be anti-globalist?

It's pro-globalist.

ok

Fortune Favors the Bold

that's a non-sequitor. Global warming is a somewhat separate issue, the arguments from the enivironmentalists in regards to this issue and globalism are a bit nuanced and off topic,

I can assure you the (vast majority of) protestors are not "pro-globalist" in the sense you are talking about

Fortune Favors the Bold

The Sense I'm Talking About..

...is the sense in which the protesters block local bridges in an effort to promote "sustainable growth" and an end to "global warming."

What part of "I don't want to be your slave," don't you understand?

The people of Pittsbugh

are good hard working people, Ron Paul grew up near there, and received a good amount of support from them in the primaries. They do not deserve to have their city destructed by a bunch of kids that probably don't even know what true anarchy is. The other thing that bothered me is that the Saudi delegation cancelled their flight, what's up with that?

The people protesting have a third-graders understanding of how the world works...

Obviously 1 individual = 1 individual. however In terms of affecting change, I would guestimate that one Ron Paul supporter is worth 2000 G-20 protestors... Again, I say this only in terms of changing the direction of our country.

We are much more powerful than those third graders. We've got the truth on our side.

WHAT?! 2000!

the media covers a march of 2000 people in the streets of Pittsburgh yet a march of 1.2million barely gets a nod?

Staged.

The last one was stage

And so is this one. ITS A PLAY. They do it all the time. I don't know why they are faking protests and staging these events but the G20 has never sat right in my book. Protesting wise. I just seems so fake to me. Everyone of them.

I mean I see people on cell phones and clothing from Pakistan yet they are protesting global trade? I will always say staged.
