I keep seeing people posting figures like 3 million, 4 million and 7.5 million for the Tea party...The ad clearly states a goal of $10 million...Can we get there or not ?? Personally, I've been hyping $10 million to everyone, including the press..Have I missed something here ??

I don't think that the $10
I don't think that the $10 Mil mark is completely unrealistic. I know of two new people that will be donating for the first time on that date. And, I have been pushing it with several others, so I may persuade a couple more before then. I think alot of people are going to be surprised.
Yes, You have missed something
The original Nov. 5th goal was also $10 M. At the time, it was clearly a "pie in the sky" expectation. However, its $4.2 M number makes the Dec. 16th goal somewhat more in reach, but still on the far edge of realistic expectations.
Playing up the $10 M. just allows the MSM to report a record donation as a failure, if we don't meet that number.
Myself, I would be gaga, if we raised $8.4 M. on Dec. 16th, doubling the Nov. 5th number. That is certainly in reach, as we will have twice as many pledges as we had for Nov. 5th. However, I don't think we will get as big an overlay versus pledges on Dec. 16th.
The official campaign set a goal of $12 M. for the fourth quarter, more than double what they raised in the third quarter. I am fairly sure that when they set that goal it was on the far outer range of their expectations. It turns out it was very low.
Instead of playing up the $10 M. number, I think playing up the biggest one day contribution to a political candidate is the way to go. And I am fairly confident we will beat that number.

$20 million
I think as long as we beat the one day fundraising record for both parties, which I think is at $6.7 million, I think we will be in great shape. I think two-thirds of the $10 million dollar goal would be acceptable as long as it comes with a new record. If we beat the record and raise $20 million+ by the end of the quarter, our momentum and the public perception of the campaign would be in great shape.
20M = 30M
If RP gets 20M together which should be more than any other republican candidate (maybe even democrat) that would equate to additional time on every single program (another 10M of exposure).
These moneybombs keep him on the screen. Its all about constantly jabbing the public with Ron Paul's name.

I'm still concerned if we don't hit $10 million..It will be spun by the press as a failure while still being a huge success.
Don't worry about that...
Few articles tried to spin that last time when we ONLY hit 4.3 of the 10 we were shooting for...It's just a boatload of cash anyway you look at it and those articles looked pretty stupid and there weren't many of them. I wish I only had that much $.

I agree with an earlier poster who said as long as it beats the 5th it will be okay.
If it gets only 5-6 million think of how ridiculous the pundits or bloggers would sounds by calling it a failure.
Then again they do not seem to be too shy about sounding ridiculous.

Another path to $10M
The other way to get to $10M for the Tea Party is to help get the Ron Paul campaign over the $12M level sometime between Dec. 12th-14th. If we are lucky and it is a slow news day, then Ron Paul will get another big burst of free publicity just prior to the Tea Party event. If the message at that time is "Yes we made our goal ahead of schedule, but we are not stopping there. In fact we have another huge fund raising event coming up the the 16th!", then look out! After all, America loves a winner!

Ron Paul hitting $12 for the quarter will not achieve much media. Remember that is not much compared to the Democratic presidential candidates.... its actually small money compared to them... so if you send in monies now, you will just dilute Dec 16th...

As long as we beat Nov 5th, we should be OK.
Six million would be great. No one paid so much attention to the 10 mil goal for Nov 5th, either. It would still be the largest single-day haul ever, plus it would put RP well above 12 M, probably around 17 M for the quarter.
So RP would be
1) Breaking the largest single day record
2) Tripling Q3 with Q4
3) Bettering Nov 5th.
Having said that, we may well hit 10 M, esp. with the RP blimp providing nationwide publicity.
$10mm is not a realistic
$10mm is not a realistic goal - however $5-6mm is. That is an ENORMOUS amount of money and we should be very happy with it.

The original Nov. 5 bomb also said $10M. Just don't hype a particular number to anybody. It will be what it will be. There isn't any stretch of the imagination that could call the last one a failure because it "only" raise 4.2M. This one will do fine, and that's all we need concern ourselves about. The actual number will remain unknown until the 17th.

I hope to hell the campaign has enough sense to keep the money counter on all day and not the flash/flash/flash/flash thing.... it would be another stupid move on the campaigns part... hhhmmmmm.... how about a few emails that Dec 16th they keep the money counter up (I wanna look all day) because if you *dont* email them, the *intellectually inferior* campaign members will not do it....
